Iowa Paper Publishes Radical Anti-Gun Column: If People Refused to Give Up Their Guns, ‘Prying’ Them ‘From Their Cold, Dead Hands’ Works for Me

Des Moines Register Publishes Anti Gun Column by Donald Kaul, Advocating for Violence Against Republicans, NRA

A security official reaches for a sign a Code Pink protester held up in protest as National Rifle Association (NRA) Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre spoke on December 21, 2012, in Washington, DC, on the one week anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, is removed from press conference by security officials. Credit: AFP/Getty Images

In an opinion column published in the Des Moines Register on Dec. 29, columnist Donald Kaul is uncensored in his disdain for the Second Amendment and anyone who values their right to bear arms. In his column, he calls for a full repeal of the Second Amendment, advocates for violence against Republican leaders “until they see the light on gun control” and declares the National Rifle Association a terrorist organization.

The piece, titled “Kaul: Nation needs a new agenda on guns,” seems to have been inspired in part by the tragic shooting in Newtown, Conn. where shooter Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School, killing 20 children and six adults. Lanza also killed his mother before he began his shooting spree at the school.

“I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control,” Kaul wrote. “And if that didn’t work, I’d adopt radical measures.”

Kaul would also like to make it illegal to even be a member of the NRA, similar to the way it was illegal to join the Communist party in the past.

He went on:

“Here, then, is my ‘madder-than-hell-and-I’m-not-going-to-take-it-anymore’ program for ending gun violence in America:

• Repeal the Second Amendment, the part about guns anyway. It’s badly written, confusing and more trouble than it’s worth. It offers an absolute right to gun ownership, but it puts it in the context of the need for a “well-regulated militia.” We don’t make our militia bring their own guns to battles. And surely the Founders couldn’t have envisioned weapons like those used in the Newtown shooting when they guaranteed gun rights. Owning a gun should be a privilege, not a right.

• Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that ‘prying the guns from their cold, dead hands’ thing works for me.”

The irony in Kaul’s argument is apparently lost on him. He is seemingly promoting a more peaceful and enlightened society while saying it’s OK to tie Republican leaders to the back of pick-up trucks and drag them around until they agree with him. Kaul berates gun owners while also saying it’s alright to pry “the guns from their cold, dead hands.”

“Publishing death threats is bad enough, but doing so in the name of promoting a more peaceful, compassionate society is beyond sick,” writes Tim Graham, director of media analysis at the Media Research Center.

It’s like that anti gun control blog that has been passed around all over the internet where the guy writes that, conservatively, 800,000 Americans would not give up their guns no matter what. And then poses the question:

“how many of your fellow Americans are you willing to have killed in order to bring about your utopian vision of the future?”

I would really love to hear some liberals’ answers to this because I feel like many people in this country (on both sides) would be fine with rounding up the “problem” people and having them shot.

Donald Kaul worked some 30 years as a syndicated Washington columnist for the Des Moines Register before retiring at the dawn of the new century. When the nation responded by electing George W. Bush—as President!—he quickly saw the error of his ways and re-enlisted in the fray as an OtherWords columnist. He lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

As much as I hate to say this I agree.
It is time to fight fire with fire. We all live under the 1st amendment. But free speeach comes with responsabilities and if you choose to physically threaten people then you have to live with the consequences.

However we must be careful not to use this everytime we disagree. If we do than we will be no better than race pimps screaming RACIST because you say the world “golf”

I hear your argument and it is valid. I do not advocate smoking others because of mere political disagreements. But, when a person is on the side of the commies, those that have murdered hundreds of millions after disarming them, and you want to do it here, in America, then all bets are off. This is not a disagreement about what color to paint a bridge. These goons want us dead. Keep up the good work my bro.

This is an old commie pig trick used by the bolsheviks and their apparatchiki to draw out and put a location on their opposition. They will say the most outlandish things designed deliberately to provoke a response. And as I read this thread, as do functionary ratz in the WH, I am dismayed by the amount of information that many posters have voluntarily submitted.

      Everything, E V E R Y T H I N G you post here is recorded, analyzed, digitized, and stored in a database for future reference.

The old saying, loose lips sink ships, is very much something to live by. Yes, you are angry and want to express yourself.

That’s EXACTLY why these thing are written. Just like the commie pig at the NYT wants to trash the Constitution. What do you think was going through that pig’s head when he wrote that piece of treasonous ****? It was DELIBERATELY designed to get YOU to out yourself and do their dirty work for them.

You may be correct, it is a common pinko tactic. But, if we brothers do not know that others got our backs, and we think we are alone, then we all stand down not knowing that we could have won this fight. In battle, it is better to know that others will follow, than to think you are out there all by yourself. Let them put us in their “database”. It is nothing but magnetic particles on a substrate. The value of brotherhood far exceeds any database crap that they have. Most cops and soldiers that I have met are honorable men, with attitudes forged by adversity. They will not side with these oppressors. But, your point is well taken.

Mr Kaul has the right to speak his mind (even though I think he is a lunatic), but if/when they try to act on those words, that is when the gloves will come off.

It is amazing how little these people have learned from history about every single country that has taken the guns from their citizens under the guise of “public safety”. If this is the way that our country dies, then so be it for I would rather stand up for my GOD given rights & die than live as a slave to big government.

I love it – the NRA is doing in your kids. Looks like it is the parents that have never stopped before eating and said a prayer. It’s the parents that buy the XBOX 360 and buy all those games that teach them how to kill. It’s those same parents that let the schools teach them how to hate and not teach the difference between right & wrong. Those parents love it when the schools teach the kids how to be a liberal. The same parents that squak the loudest when some gang banger or a armed thug is kicking down their door and stealing their presious wealth, screaming where the he_ll is the police.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Well regulated is defined as organized and trained. The Anti-Federalists were suspicious of the power of the Federal Government. A militia doesn’t require it be attached to a state or local government.

It sounds to me were are allowed to have a “well regulated militia”. Instead of standing alone, we should be organizing into local and regional militias. I would like to have a militia to call on when my rights are being impinged. I would also like an organization that supplies training on the use of Arms.

Let’s get with it before it’s too late.

Yet another tool to come out and blast his ignorance of the Constitution in a public manner. First, the Bill of Rights does not create/grant rights nor does the government. U.S. vs Cruikshank clearly points this out:

IIn the case of United States v Cruikshank, the United States Supreme Court held that the rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights were not granted by the Amendments and are not dependent upon the Constitution for their existence. The Court also ruled that the Amendments were restraints on the powers of the federal government and it is the duty of States to secure the individual rights of the American people.

One of the most definitive and succinct interpretations of the Second Amendment is found in the Court’s second holding:

“The right there specified is that of ‘bearing arms for a lawful purpose.’ This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The Second Amendment declares that it shall not be infringed: but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by Congress. This is one of the amendments that has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the National [Federal] Government…”

      Hey schmuck aka Donald Kaul read this you low life lib;

From a Marine to Feinstein: I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America.

I am the man who fought for my country. I am the man who learned. I am an American. You will not tell me that I must register my semi-automatic AR-15 because of the actions of some evil man.

I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public.

We, the people, deserve better than you.

Ironically, Kaul’s column actually validates the need for the Second Amendment so people can protect themselves.

Imagine a world where people like Kaul write columns advocating violence against anyone he disagrees with if those people DIDN’T have guns to protect themselves with. Kaul would be king, because the mere threat of a column against you would be enough to bring most people into submission.

create an anti-gun culture and make guns and gun owners the bad guys at every turn:

On the evening news, every time a crime is reported, they make sure there is a picture of a mean looking gun next to the chalk outline of a body (ooo, look at that scary gun Merle). Portray hunters and sportsmen as backwoods unsophisticated hillbillies and rednecks (like liberals are constantly spewing). Feminize the society, especially the males (Obama). Create a culture where the police* are revered as heroes whose intentions can never be questioned (like in the UK). Demonize war and warriors (like liberals do). Label gun organizations “crazed lunatics” and “unreasonable extremists.” (like Kaul) Make shooting restrictive by forcing participants to private ranges, then close the ranges by legal means citing reasons of safety, nuisance, environmental, or whatever possible (EPA)

All commie Alinsky tactics. We aren’t going to let them win. We are responsible firearm owners, free men & women, we will continue to exercize our God given right to do so. We are not going to be slaves to the system!

He is pointing out the irony of how Kaul and other liberal journalists are just fine with scrapping the Second Amendment while at the same time exercising their First Amendment rights to publish their opinions. They would have an aneurysm if anyone suggested we repeal the First Amendment. He’s exposing the absurdity of Kaul’s flawed argument that the founders could not have imagined then how powerful today’s guns would be by echoing it to suggest that the founders couldn’t have known then what terrible ways freedom of the press would be abused today. But unlike that idiot, Kaul, he concludes that we shouldn’t repeal or selectively ignore any of the Bill of Rights. Be careful whom you label as a commie. We don’t need any “friendly fire”…

Judging by verbiage alone, I could see Enci-diot and WangDang in code pink. Well, and for the attire too of course.

I have been wanting to start a militia for months , I am afraid of an assault by an armed flash mob of approximately 100 people on my area ( Torrington Ct. ) , I have seen gangs larger than this at my school when I was a kid. I want to arm my neighbors, and have a fighting chance against the pukes.

Paul, how would you know that anyone contacting you based upon this public statement is really someone you can trust and not someone working for the government? Then again, how do we know that you aren’t a government operative trying to see what you can drum up or create? How can anyone trust anyone else now? I think the left has pushed us this far now only because they know that they already have us pinned down with surveilence. There is no way we can securely create new or join existing militias without their clear knowledge and ability to intervene. Resistance may not be futile, but it will be difficult, painful, and deadly on a massive scale.

I will tell you their angle. They want to disarm the snowman so that they can do whatever the hell they want to do. Rape, pillage, and burn. News flash, it ain’t gonna’ happen. It’s funny how the demographic that most abuses the 2nd amendment is the first to call for EVERYBODY ELSE to be disarmed.

@DIGNIDOOFUS “does every Donald have a default setting of ‘idiot’”

Answer to your lame question: No, but you do!

In the old days psychiatrists use to call people with your condition ‘deminted’. Today the condition is referred to as being liberal. It’s idiots like you who kill millions a year with your abortion rights. The only reason why you and yours succeed at it is because the unborn are unarmed. You spinless wimp! You’re nothing more than a murdering pile of slime. You only come here because misery loves company. You’re looking in the wrong place. The Huffinton Post is more your cup of tea, where your’ll blend in like a bad case of gonorrhea.

Should we (the american people) not consider those comments to be a perceived terrorist threat? If so should not the state act accordingly.

I think it clearly gives us the right to consider and treat this as a threat to our country and we are required by the constitution to act accordingly.

He is not on drugs or impaired in any way at all. This is what the progs think. They want only the state goons to have the guns. That way they can take anything they want from us and give it to them. They are not on drugs. They are as sober as the Pope.

@Mil, They are drunk on power. That’s what gets their goat with the 2nd amendment. I think the average “lib” feels the power vicariously though this over-reaching government. They are getting all excited because they think they have the momentum to dis-arm the country.

Also, my brothers and sisters … the communists have proved on thing every time they have come to power. They have no hesitation to kill millions who are unwilling to be “re-educated” or those they presume will not “submit”. This is the fundamental similarity between a jihadist and the leftists … they see the death of their enemies as unobjectionable.

Teach you children history, or any gain we make will be temporary.
