Touching Photo of Baby Grasping Doctor’s Finger From the Womb During C-Section Goes Viral

It’s not the first time such a moving photo has been taken, but the imagery of a baby’s finger reaching up out of the womb is causing a stir in the pro-life community yet again.

The image snapped of the baby being delivered via a Cesarean section in Phoenix in October was released just before the new year and has gone viral. According to AZFamily.com, the photo of Nevaeh — heaven spelled backwards — reaching into the outside world she was about to join has been viewed more than 10,000 times and liked by more than 1,000 people on Facebook.

Here’s more from AZFamily on the events surrounding the photograph:

“It was such an amazing photo.  [Hospital staff] had possibly heard of it happening but they had never seen a photo of it,” said Alicia Atkins, Nevaeh’s mother.

Few lives will be as well documented as little Nevaeh’s. Her mother is a professional photographer who owns A Classic Pin-Up in Glendale. However, it was her dad, Randy, who snapped the picture.

“The doctor called me over and said, ‘Hey, she’s grabbing my finger.’  So I ran over there and just grabbed the shot and I was just in awe looking at it.  It was such an amazing picture,” said Randy Atkins, adding that he was nervous about missing the precious and fleeting moment as he hurried to snap a picture.

Alicia said they had never intended to share the photo publicly, thinking many would find it “disgusting.” But that didn’t end up being the case. She also told AZFamily there have been offers to purchase the photograph.

On her A Classic Pin Up Facebook page, Alicia wrote that she is “in awe of this photo” and considers it “something to remember forever.”

I saw a photo like this with the child just 5 months in the womb..the doctor did a breakthrough surgery for spina bifida..and the 5 ,month old “fetus reached with tiny fingers through he womb to clasp the surgeons finger ..Wow..and all this time doctorrs were telling women that these were just blobs in the womb..I did research and found out that the baby at 5 months can survive outside the womb..At least..that is the earliest record.. For whatever excuses one can conjure..remember..that is a real little defenseless person in there..All children are gifts from God..Trust Him…He will provide a way for you somehow..The most beautiful gift you can give..is life to that unborn child.. For women not married..it is against God’s will for you to have sex outside of marriage..so please pray..if you want a family..for the right husband..a God fearing man who obeys God and who will love you as Jesus loves the church..But 2 wrongs don’t make a right..So please..if you are pregnant and unmarried…find God..read His word..and give your child life..It will be a decision you will not regret..if you make the decision to abort..you will come to regret it deeply in time..It doesn’t matter about anyone else..what matters is your child..

@PROVERBS..You are right in essence..Liberals are for the most part non believers..but there are some believers but have not understanding because they are not staying in the word of God..What is important for even sinners..and we are all sinners..is that there is forgiveness for sin..all we have to do is accept that Jesus/Yeshua..only begotten Son of God ..left His place on high..to be born of a virgin..was the only sinless man who lived a perfect sin free life..and died upon a cross for the sins of the world and rose the third day..for who so ever would believe in Him.. repenting of their sin (turning away from) ,obeying and following Him with a changed heart would gain everlasting life. It is a free gift..And let us not forget the only unforgiveable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit..

“every time someone justifies abortion or says the name of an incompetent politician, think of this picture…….this has immeasurable worth”

This has worth only if you have a heart. The average liberal that looks at this picture will be unmoved. They will not see a human being that is full of life. They will see a sack of skin and goo that does not feel and does not deserve to live unless its mother wishes it to.
Liberals will fight to the death to protect the rights of a convicted murderer or rapist, but they will not lift a finger to protect a child.

ASHAMED77 . . .Threw you for a loop I see. Let me help you out.

      You suggest “1(you) divided by (260 million + 80 illegal alliens)@340 million= the %”

First of all 260 million + 80 does not equal 340 million. Second, there are not 80 or 80 million illegal aliens in America, but somewhere between 12 and 16 million. Third, the population of America is not 340 million but about 315 million. Fourth, none of what you did = a percent of anything. You must be home schooled.

The answer is approximately 32,000 women are impregnated by rapists every year in America.

And thank you for you pre-emptive GFY – a clear admission of defeat on your part. At least you’re that smart.

Glennda sounds just like Anonymouse from the old Gretawire Forums. Her vicious, vile, and hateful rhetoric went on for a long time until another blogger outed her with some sort of video. The woman was ranting like a lunatic from her kitchen to Greta about something. I tell you what, the backlash on her was so bad, mostly about her outward appearance and craziness, that when she responded to any of it, one could see she was pretty devastated. But, it didn’t garner a lot of sympathy seeing she was so unbelievably cruel, callous, and vile to so many people over such a long period. If this is the same person, and I suggest that it might be because there was a person posting as Anonymouse here for a bit having the same “m.o.” and was pretty damn insufferable in the same manner. I see Glennda is a “new member”, and also has the same way about her as well, so…. My only suggestion is to ignore her. Beautiful picture. All babies need protected. Glennda’s abortion guilt is obvious and I wish she would seek forgiveness from God or at least talk to a shrink. And I don’t buy the numbers of women impregnated by rape. If a women is raped she should file charges, get medical attention which can prevent an unwanted pregnancy – before fertilization even ocurs. If she chooses not to, then adoption is another choice. I think many “rapes” are next day regrets. Many young people today (1960′s to current) live immoral lives, getting high on something, making poor choices and unwilling to do the responsible thing. I’m not that old, but I can see how lost our society has become when a woman can simply pay to kill her unborn child, yet a man is charged with murder if he causes the death of a fetus through his actions.
What should the age cut off be, that a mother can choose to kill her child?

Hey Glenda the troll. Here is a poem for you. Bet your not really a woman or you’d be touched by this:

      Dear Mommy,

I want you to know how much I love you even though I’m not with you anymore. I was really scared the other day, but I’m ok now.

I woke up to your crying and all of a sudden I felt a force like no other. I gripped my tiny hands into your flesh, but I was no match. I felt like I was being sucked away. And then came the pain. Mommy . . . it really hurt. The doctor tore me from your womb and placed my body like garbage on the cold table. I hoped you would hear me, but my cries were not enough. I needed you Mommy. I know that all the pain I felt yesterday is nothing compared to the pain you must feel. I’m sorry you’re hurt too . . . I love you.

Mommy, what happened? Why have you pushed me away? I was robbed of a home and a family that I needed. Why didn’t you want me?

I pray for you everyday now. I pray that you’ll open your ears to something besides what the world tells you. I met the most wonderful person. After all the pain, I felt arms reach out to me and pull me close. I hoped it to be you, but it was a man. He spoke nothing but kind words and told me He was my Father and Savior. He held me close and told me everything was alright. The way He laughs and smiles and expresses His immense joy, makes me feel so loved.

He talks about you too, as if He’s known you all of your life. He whispers blessings over your soul and keeps placing

Abortions are done in this country all the time in the last two trimesters. Look in ANY yellow pages under “abortion.” They all have ads for abortion “through 24 weeks.” And if you want a late one, you call the orwellianly named “ethics committee” of your local hospital. We have abotion on demand for the entire 9 months of pregnancy in this country and have had it for 40 years.

Awesome picture. How anyone can support abortion is beyond me. But I do have an idea for those who support it. Let the father of the baby be the one to do it. I’m sure a doctor can explain the procedure rather quickly and besides I’m sure killing a baby shouldn’t be very hard. I do have one more idea for the sick pro abortion people out there: why not go ahead and deliver the baby and raise it till its one year old and then if things aren’t working out or if you’re not satisfied with being a parent take it back to the hospital and let the doctor kill it. I can’t see how that’s any different than abortion.

So….. your solution is to let an unlicensed, nervous and who know how coordinated person perform the abortion?

Then your second solution is to let the baby live and do a one year trial run, to execute the baby afterwards if it doesn’t work out?

Who’s going to pay the $8000 (relative; no insurance) for the birth?

A years worth of baby food, diapers and sleepless nights?

A new crib, new furniture, new everything for the new baby?

Financial inability to raise a child is a major factor for many to have an abortion….

I know you were being sarcastic, for the most part, but your logic still makes absolutely no sense.

American Soldier (Separated), I say we should use the financial burden test on the elderly as well. how would that suit you? A central point of your argument is financial ability to support a life. Would you have your elderly parents euthanized if they became too much of a financial burden? Should anyone have this option?

My statement was pure sarcasm. No logic was intended. I was implying that people who are for abortion have no heart and making them take a more involved stand in the decision might change their mind. Also a partial birth abortion of a heathy baby and the intentional death of an infant is no different. In my mind.

I personally would not have my elderly parents euthanized, even if it is a financial burden.

However; many people do this already to an extent. Not everyone has families to pay for end of life care. Many elderly people are left to a hospice to be left to die. Some with families, some without. Should an elderly man have the right to elect to be euthanized if he believes himself to be a burden, absolutely.

However; why would anyone else have that option? Why would anyone but the person’s who’s life is in question have that choice? Certainly not a stranger…

So is it an “option”? Technically is it. If a son decides to stop paying for his elderly fathers medical bills, what is there to do? Now it would be a moral dilemma for the doctor and hospital. They’d probably sent the patient to hospice to await death as comfortably they can provide with limited financial resources.

That’s one option. Abortion is another option. You don’t have to choose the abortion option.

It’s her body, not yours. Either the body is owned by oneself and you can make any medical decision (or indecision) as you wish or your don’t. You can’t have it both ways.

So which is it? Is our bodies owned by oneself or is our body at the mercy of others to make decisions for us?

If government has the power to force you to keep a growing organism inside of your body, to take your resources away from you, to require several pre-natal doctors visits and payment for delivering the baby, then they have the power to tell you to buy health insurance.

You can’t be for it in one instance, then against it in another.

This boils down to governmental control. Who controls MY body? Do I? Do You? Do the jackboots in Congress?

This isn’t about life growing inside of someone. This isn’t about you thinking it’s murder. You can have an endless campaign to convince people that it’s wrong to have an abortion, but the underlining issue here is my question above, which I’ll repeat:

      Who owns my body?

Go ahead and give the government the power to tell someone they can’t have an abortion, a medical procedure.

Now that the precedent is set, you’ve shown that you like government to dictate what someone does to their bodies medically, then welcome Obamacare in with open arms. Embrace it and adapt it as your own. Because you would be no less of a hypocrite and a flip flopper than you accuse the left of being….

Why don’t we delve into his topic some?

Many of you point out the hypocrisy of liberals condoning executions of convicted murders but are fine with abortions yet most of you are all about continuing on our war of aggression against the muslim world, where we’ve killed how many in this decade long war? Many innocent women and children killed.

What about the 500K iraqi children (many were infant age) that died in the years following the first gulf war due to our long, drawn out sanctions against that nation?

Oh but the Liberals the hypocrites here, you’re just a good little patriot!

We all sanction killings to one extent or another. You have your battles you are willing to fight, so are they. We all have blood on our hands, and last time I checked, your holy book claims no sin is greater or less than another.

Fetus is the term for a developmental stage of an unborn human (More than 8 weeks after conceptions).
There are other terms used before the birth such as zygote, but all are developmental stages of an unborn human.
When the human is born, the correct terms are newborn, baby, infant, etc.
Regardless of the terms used, they describe or identify the developmental stage of an unborn human.
Therefore, when Obama and others support killing a newborn human being who survives a botched abortion, they are killing a baby or an infant human being.

A blanket statement as all life is sacred is a bit much. Was the cow you ate (in a form of a burger) sacred? Was the tree’s life that was cut and used as your back deck sacred? Was the life of that fly you swatted and killed after it tried to eat your earlier burger sacred? Is the tumor inside of someone sacred?

Human life is sacred. The woman is part of that. And since she is the oldest of the two involved, and is being used as a host by the fetus, IMHO, the woman has the right to say she doesn’t want anything growing inside of her. Whether that’s a tumor, a parasite or a fetus….

      To: American Soldier (Separated)
Lets break down your argument here, “Was the cow you ate (in a form of a burger) sacred…..”
The Cow, the tree, and the fly were created by God and Man has dominion over them. So in essence, we choose what happens to those things. Says so in the Bible.

“Human life is sacred. The woman is part of that. And since she is the oldest of the two involved, and is being used as a host by the fetus,….”

God did not give us dominion over other human lives, nor did he give us permission to kill said lives. You are right in the fact that a woman has the right to choose whether anything grows inside of her, but you are misguided when that decision takes place. It takes place prior to intercourse. If a woman chooses to have intercourse without taking proper precautions then she is responsible for those actions. In the case of rape, that choice is taken away from her, then she has the choice what to do with the baby growing inside of her. In the case of harm to the mother, then she has the choice to save her own life. But to use abortion as a form of birth control is murder. It makes woman appear to be irresponsible for their actions.
You are misguided in your belief that the oldest one chooses, that has nothing to do with abortion.

For God and Country, that as Veterans we upheld in our military service. We swore the oath and said “So help me GOD”: You sir, are a disgrace to the uniform, I am personally please that you “Separated”

” By law, no it is not murder. You can consider it murder and agree to never participate in an abortion, that’s your freedom to choose. I am pro-choice and I chose to have my two wonderful children. Just because you have the right to choose doesn’t mean you have to make that choice.

But as of current law, no, it is not murder no matter how many times you say it….”

So, you’re saying you’re children are just “wonderful”, not “sacred”?

Your legalism leads me to wonder what you WOULD consider sacred…

Now lets break down your argument. Which is quiet simple.

“God did not give us dominion over other human lives”

I don’t believe in your God nor does your belief in a God affects my life. You can choose to not participate in an Abortion and they can choose to have one and risk eternal damnation over it, but last I checked, no one is sinless, including YOU.

I never said So help me God, it was not required to be said at MEPS when I enlisted. There’s a strange notion that in order to be a good soldier, a good patriot, you have to be a hardlined, god fearing, GOP lifetime member….

Hate to break it to you bud, but we’re not. The military is very diverse and, surprisingly, we’re not all brain dead robots that have no ability to think for ourselves. I know, it’s disappointing, but you’ll be thankful for that ability to think for ourselves when the next revolution begins…

To call me a disgrace to the uniform is laughable. Why am I a disgrace, because I don’t agree with YOU?! Haha! You think quiet highly of yourself there! So no matter the horrors I’ve seen, done and lived through for my country (I was an Infantryman 2006-2012 101st Airborne Division) I’m a disgrace because I don’t agree with everything YOU believe in.

      Hahha

Which should be the Democraric platform for the next election. He and his family have the means to take of care the babies. So that cannot be used as an excuse to have an abortion. How fortunate for your children that you “chose” to let them live. May they worship the ground you walk on.

It doesn’t matter what the “law” is, if it is wrong. The law in Germany was to exterminate a race. I suppose it wasn’t murder, because it was the law. Keep telling yourself that so you won’t have to feel guilty.

A women’s choice ends the minute she chooses sex. After that, all consequences are her responsibility, not “choice.” You get pregnant, you have a baby, you raise it.

You and anyone else behind this are mass murderers, just as guilty as Adam Lanza.

I’m sure they’ll be thankful that I did too. I know I am. I love them with all of my heart. Worship is not necessary, I just hope they grow up happy and succeed in anything they put their hearts and mind to.

Your argument has some merit to it. However; if abortions are to be considered mass murder to the extent of Nazi German’s actions, why aren’t be being invaded and charged by the international community?

If it ever did come to that, ok, I’ll take the responsibility that I am pro-choice and take note that in my direct action, I chose life. I can’t control you or your neighbor, but I think it’s a choice they have to make and live with. It is none of my business.

To say a woman’s choice ends the moment she has sex is like saying we shouldn’t have any medical procedures that interfere with natural consequence of our modern life.

Why fix your your? You had the choice to not eat all those cholesterol, live (or rather die) with your consequences!

Who’s denying that they’re alive? I’ve never heard of anyone who claims they aren’t alive, they just haven’t been born yet.

Maybe some have made radical claims like that, but my argument is that the mother is alive, born and more than likely a tax paying adult. The mothers right trumps the fetus’ rights. The fetus is an organism that is growing within the mother and taking resources from the host (mother). Anyone should have the right to not want any kind of organism, whether it be a fetus or a tumor, from growing within themselves without their full, willing consent.

If you, as the tax payer or friendly neighbor, would like to (when the technology becomes available) to remove unwanted fetus (alive) from an unwanting mother to an awaiting wanting mother, that’s fine if you want to foot the bill. Otherwise, the mother has the right to choose.

She was doing an prenatal exam on a soon- to- be Mom when the baby (still in the Mom) grabbed her finger and started suckling) as if she were breast feeding. Babies do these things, but most of the stories never make the media….

What’s really something to write about are the surgeons who perform amazing life saving techniques on babies when they are still in the womb. These are stories that rarely make media coverage. The surgeons who perform their remarkable work should be more then praised, they should receive more coverage.

HORSEPRANCER/WANGO/PANTS/GLENNDUH, That’s the spirit. Equate the killing of the ultimately innocent to a murderer. Tells us all where your humanity lies.

I’m not a strong supporter of the death penalty, but there is a world of difference between killing a murderer and a totally innocent little baby.

Until it is fully out, leftists don’t consider it a baby. Or is it that if the mother wants the baby it is considered a baby, otherwise it is considered a parasitic growth of nonhuman tissue? I’m trying to remember what the rules are.

I’m with you – I don’t understand the leftist rules either – apparently if is ok to murder a baby in the womb but it is immoral to execute a convicted murderer. It is ok to let a baby who survives a botched abortion die on a shelf but we must not speak ill of a person who cannot control their sexual appetites or desires….I just don’t get it

I haven’t heard much about calling executions of convicted murderers as immoral. I’m sure they’ve made that argument which I whole heartily disagree. It shouldn’t take a decade to put them onto death row either.

But for your second point, who’s stopping you from talking bad about homosexuals? (i’m assuming you were speaking for them specifically rather than blanket statement for pedophiles and chronic masturbators) and no one is forcing you to invite them over for grilled burgers and beers. You can hate or dislike anyone you wish, you just can’t force government to discriminate against them.

Is the line of clearer now?

I love how some of you question my service as part of your rebuttal against me (happened twice in this thread a lone) as if to be a soldier in the US Army, you have to be brain dead and a hard lined republican who prays to God and votes nothing but Republican on election day.

Go ahead, keep on questioning my service, it only shows that you have a weak argument if you have to use that in your response.

But when exactly did I ever said I wanted to legislate morality? That reply made no sense as a rebuttal to my post….

Brain dead? So, if you’re s soldier who thinks opposite of your opinion, you’re brain dead? Have you just insulted your brothers and sisters that agree with the pro-life stance, and are conservative in ideology? Hmmm…interesting opinions you have.

I will explain it for you. Nowhere should any place or hospital perform an abortion in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. A quick look at abortion laws say this as well. the 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions are for saving the mothers life or the fetus only. If you think that is what commonly occurs than you are an idiot.

So it morphs from a lump of tissue between months 3 and 4? Wow. The scientists have that one down. I’ll take God’s word for it, when He says life begins. He’s the only one we will all have give an account to. I’ll error on the side of righteousness.

@ free…so you are fine with this baby being mudered in the 1st trimester? Please explain how this baby is any less a baby then as opposed to now….If you are not endorsing 1st term abortions, I apoligize for misunderstanding your comment.

I also have another question – (again if I am misunderstanding your original comment – I apologize) so if you (or your wife or significant other or you) were expecting – did you ever say you were expecting a fetus, lump of tissue or did you say you were expecting a baby?

What a touching picture (no pun intended).

It’s a shame liberals/progressives in this nation support the MURDER of a million babies every year. Pure evil.

@ “free”_thought : First off why do your kind always resort to comments like “No but you seem to be a good case for adult abortions.” It only tells us that your arguments have no basis in fact and are unfounded.
Second: “Nowhere should any place or hospital perform an abortion in the 2nd or 3rd trimester.” The problem is the word “should”; It’s done anyway. If you research (WITH AN OPEN MIND) that free thought and not ignore the facts you might come away with a little more understanding.

What I’m seeing more and more is that people are “set” in their opinions, even when they see overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Just look at all the comments on this board justifying abortion.
