Appearing on MSNBC’s “Hardball” on Thursday, former New York City mayoral candidate and author Mark Green advocated for new legislation that would allow people to identify and locate gun owners who lived in their neighborhoods. He compared it to the already existing “Megan’s Law,” which lets citizens know if a convicted sex offender lives near them.

Then he flat-out compared sex offenders to gun owners.

“If we have a Megan’s Law — because I think almost everyone might agree — that if you’re a convicted child molester, a neighbor might want to know that because they’re in your home, safe, but maybe they could hurt someone else,” Green said, adding “Same thing with guns.”

“There may be people who think the more concealed weapons, the better. Fine. Live in Texas or Florida,” he said.

Green was reacting to the Journal News’ decision to publish the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in two New York counties. The obvious flaw in Green’s argument is that legal gun owners are not criminals and therefore no reasonable rationale exists to place gun owners on some sort of database similar to that of a sex offender registry.

Even Michael Smerconish, Chris Matthews’ fill-in host, disagreed with Green’s assessment and said he was not comparing lawful gun owners with convicted child molesters in any way.

However, Smerconish did agree that gun owner information should be publicly available. Putnam County, N.Y., Executive Maryellen Odell disagreed and said releasing lawful gun owners’ information was an invasion of privacy.

  It’s time to start forming or join a local milit… uh, shooting club, and keep your marksmanship and home defense tactics up to date.

  I don’t quite understand why gun owners are objecting so much about the fact that such ownership is being published.
  
  If I lived there, I would be proud of my status as a gun owner. Further, if criminals are looking to see which homes to invade, they are likely to steer clear of a residence with guns because they are, most often, cowards.

  Unfortunately he knows EXACTLY what is happening. It is by design. The progressives/communists need for there to be unrest in the streets, so they can be begged to “do something”. They will create the same distrust and hatred that they have done with “the rich”. Secession is a protective measure against tyranny and self-preservation should those with the utmost power try to subvert the Constitution and enslave their own people under dictatorial rule. The country is far too divided and commonalities between people as to basic right and wrong are near opposite. The gulf is too wide and no one in government wants to deal with it. Secession is something to prepare for and consider, because waiting til people are physically disarmed by executive order will be too late. How would releasing the names and addresses of CWP holders benefit society? Would it not let everyone know who has a gun in their house so that house can be targeted for a break-in or something? Plus CWP only refer to those weapons that can be concealed-it does not refer to shotguns or hunting rifles. So in fact, his plan will only publish names of people that may or may not have a pistol with them at some point. Why doesn’t he say he wants to make public the names of those with a CWP and a hunting license – that would be a better picture of people with guns in their house.

  I’m not sure of “all of the” military and police would or could be used against the people, but saying, that I do remember 2005 and Katrina and the BS that was allowed to follow. I still wonder why that N.O. police chief isn’t behind bars, with each and every National Guardsman and the officers who ordered them to carry a weapon against the citizens, and the People’s Republik of Kalofornia poliska officers who tackled that 70 year old woman. Those two clowns should be renamed Ruth and Alice and forced to share a cell with Bruce in the State Pen.
  
  But more fear than the military which will soon be reduced to a size equal to the Boy Scouts, is the implementation of a “National Civilian Security Force” will be offered up in their stead (July 2008 stump speech, look it up if you forgot about it). But I digress, this candidate (above) is just nuts and very dangerous.

  I grew up in Florida. It is a third world police state now compared to NC. The American public needs to reach out to the police and military and not alienate them. We need as many of them as on our side as possible. The Katrina gun grab was just a test to see who would follow unlawful orders. Scary…… Hitler made sure the trains ran on time and had plenty of help. Ask yourself: Are we heading toward that or away from it?

Hope you got that former canidate. He offended to many of those rich folks in NYC that depend on their bodyguards and their guns to protect them. These folks thought that this radical nut would take ever gun ub the city and melt it down. The wealthy knew that if the body guards were disarmed that only the police and the gangs would be armed and run the city.
