Hilarious Vid Features Kids Catching Parents Sobbing After Seeing ‘Les Misérables’: ‘I’m So Upset — I Can’t Talk About It’

One shouldn’t go in to see “Les Misérables” expecting to leave a more joyful human being. Two movie goers recently left the theater inconsolable after seeing the movie remake of the Broadway play about the French Revolution.

The couple, filmed by their children on the car ride home, were the literal English translation of the movie’s French title, meaning “the miserable ones.

The video, titled “My Parents’ Reaction to the Les Misérables Movie,” starts with Dad saying “I hear the first note, I start to cry.” A choked up Mom agrees.

“But didn’t he, wasn’t it better than the play George?” Mom said.

Dad can’t answer because he’s quietly weeping up front, so Mom answers for him. “It was better than the play,” she said.

“I was walking and I was crying,” George said.

Upset that their children are snickering at them, Mom asks how they could laugh.

“I’m not laughing. I was sad too,” one of them replies. It’s hardly in a believable tone though. Glossing over that, the kid asks, what the saddest part was.

“At the end, his eyes. …I’m so upset. Oh my God. I can’t talk about it,” Mom said.

Now, even George sees some of the humor in the situation.

“We’ve been to funerals and been less upset.”

It’s a very sad story, I probably won’t see the movie, I love the music even though it is so sad, and I’ve seen a lot of previews of the movie, the movie screws up the music! The director decided it was better to make a dramatic statement by having the actors sing as they perform, he thinks it makes a better dramatic statement, while it might do that, it also destroys what should be some really good music!

I like the *book*. It’s funny how many people think this originated with a Musical from the 90′s (not saying you did). It’s a book by Victor Hugo (the same guy who wrote Notre Dame de Paris aka The Hunchback of Notre Dame). It was written as a strong emotional novel that describes terrible conditions in war torn France, which necessitate…wait for it…the move to a socialist society. You don’t get a lot of the socialist outright declarations (though the battles where the red flags wave should clue you in), but make no mistake, Hugo was a highly gifted writer and a full blown socialist.

This was meant as propaganda back then, just as its being used now.

I adore Hugo’s writing style, and have read some of his work in its original French. But I always keep in mind that he was a Romantic writer writing for a very specific agenda.

GhostofJefferson– This is a long time favorite novel of mine.

What I took from it was certainly the lunacy of insane justice, class warfare, man’s inhumanity to man, etc……. BUT ALSO…..much more: The forgiveness of the candlestick theft; holding Valjean accountable for having an better life; and man’s ability to overcome adversity– to rise above and succeed!! Hard work, perseverance, unswerving drive…..these are also part of the human condition and what made this melting pot work so well for 200 years.

And think of all those folks that he provided a better life for when he “discovered” a new manufacturing process. There are indeed lessons to be learned from Hugo– in spite of his agenda.

      T.

I’ve seen the play and the movie. Suggest you go to the movie and see if it ‘ruins’ some good music. Take someone who hasn’t seen the play. It will be an enjoyable time.

Walked out of Les Miserables…what a miserable excuse of a movie or even entertainment. They fractured the book, whored up the movie to tittilate the masses. Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway appeared to be doing a good job of acting but the movie had little to do with the book. And Russell Crowe needs to stick to gladiator roles, one stiff dude man!

Not at all interested in seeing this movie. Hate the book, didn’t bother to see the play, and think it is all a bunch of hooey to put something as horrific and bloody into a musical. That’s like trying to make the holocost romantic. gag.

It was reasonably well done, but it should have ended about 20 seconds earlier. No reason to end it immortalizing the dimwits on the barricade instead of Jean Val Jean.

You’re going to need to explain to Liz that “Les Mis” was only related to the French Revolution in that it took place years after it and lasted all of one night. But don’t worry, this stupid story and all the rest she posts will keep coming on this site, as she is in no danger or being fired.

Many people are more likely to cry watching movies than while attending funerals.
You watch dramatic movies HOPING to be affected emotionally. It’s part of what you’re paying for, and you allow it to happen.
Many folks attend funerals with their emotions compartmentalized and a determination to resist grieving publicly.
You don’t have to be “strong for others” at the movies but, funerals provoke the natural tendency among some to be the caregivers.. be there for others that need you. They often grieve later, privately.

Brings to mind a line in A Bridge Too Far, as Edward Fox portraying Lieutenant-General Sir Brian Gwynne Horrocks is addressing senior staff of XXX Corps prior to departure.
