Louisville Upsets Florida 33-23 in Sugar Bowl — Watch Some of the Highlights

NEW ORLEANS, LA – JANUARY 02: Jeff Driskel #6 of the Florida Gators is sacked by Sheldon Rankins #98 and Lorenzo Mauldin #94 of the Louisville Cardinals in the fourth quarter of the Allstate Sugar Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Superdome on January 2, 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Credit: Getty Images
NEW ORLEANS (TheBlaze/AP) — Terell Floyd returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown on the first play, dual-threat quarterback Teddy Bridgewater directed several scoring drives and No. 22 Louisville surprised No. 4 Florida 33-17 Wednesday night in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Shaking off an early hit that flattened him and knocked off his helmet, Bridgewater came back to throw TD passes to DeVante Parker and Damian Copeland.
The two-touchdown underdogs from the Big East took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and were never caught. It certainly was a sweet win for Cardinals coach Charlie Strong – he was Florida’s defensive coordinator before leaving after the 2009 season and taking over Louisville.
But Florida did manage to record one of the biggest hits on the night when linebacker Jon Bostic leveled Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Watch the video below:
Down 30-10 early in the fourth quarter, Florida threw a very untimely interception, signaling the beginning of the end for the Gators.
Then there was this great open field tackle by Louisville cornerback Zed Evans.
Finally, down 33-10 midway through the fourth period, the one-loss power from the Southeastern Conference tried to rally late on a 100-yard kickoff return by Andre Debose and a short touchdown pass in the closing minutes. Florida got no closer.

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 2:17pmI was pleasantly surprised that Louisville came out and dominated Florida so much in this game. The Gators were caught flat-footed and never recovered from that interception in the first quarter. Some of my DISH coworkers were raving about how great the SEC is, so it was nice to see them eat some crow. I missed the matchup last night, but I saw the game later since I set a timer for it on my DISH Hopper. I like to catch up with bowl games that I miss and I can do that since my DVR holds up to 2,000 hours of programming.

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 4:22pmFlorida was caught being terrible like they have all year. I’m a huge Florida fan and they have been holding onto wins by a thread ALL year against teams that have no business being within 3 td’s of them. This is just a terrible ending to a terrible year for the Gators. Better luck next year Gator Nation.
