MSNBC Graphic Falsely Shows Democrats Holding Commanding Majority in U.S. House

The 113th Congress was sworn in on Thursday and Republicans were able to hold on to a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives and retain Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) as speaker. But the folks over at MSNBC seemingly mixed up their congressional wish list with reality and aired a graphic that showed Democrats enjoying a significant majority in the House, 233-200.

To be fair, MSNBC accidentally switched the Republican and Democrat numbers as the GOP holds a 233-200 majority in the House. At least MSNBC host Alex Witt correctly stated which party controlled the House.

As Mediaite’s Noah Rothman puts it, “Mistakes happen, but given the cable news network’s editorial bent, it is hard not to see a little willful self-deception in the graphic they aired. Or, perhaps, a few producers are still recovering from a particularly jolly holiday season.”

  Well they made a mistake, but anybody who knows anything about our government know a dysfunctional group of Republicans have the majority in the House. So it’s not like they were trying to fool anyone, which would serve absolutely no purpose anyway. Think about it.

Journalism at MSNBC is the joke of all networks. They couldn’t work for a highschool newspaper or bozo radio if they were to be looking for a job.

The House was supposed to be the small-d democratic element in the Constitution, elected by the people on roughly a one-man one-vote basis. If our electoral system had not been perverted by Republican gerrymandering, the large-D Democrats would in fact today control the House (as well as the Senate and the White House), giving the lie to the notion that Americans “prefer divided government.”
