Police Chief Bans Officers From Denny’s After Manager Tells Detective to Leave Her Gun in the Car or Leave

Gun sensitivity is certainly on the rise. And if you needed an example, look no further than Belleville, Ill., where a battle is brewing between local police officers and a Denny’s Restaurant after an on-duty detective who went inside was told that she either had to leave her firearm in the car or exit the establishment. In addition to voicing outrage at the alleged treatment, the Belleville police chief has since banned officers from eating at the diner.
The drama unfolded on New Year’s Day when the detectives were eating at the Denny’s. The restaurant’s manager came over to tell a female in the group that she had to take her gun to the car or leave. Her request was purportedly based on a complaint from another customer. While, at first, the detectives assumed that the mandate was a joke, they quickly learned otherwise.
The manager explained the Denny’s only allows officers in uniform to carry guns, however the detectives had shown their badges, thus substantiating their identities. When they got up to leave, a general manager, who purportedly noticed the officers refusing to pay for their meals during the dispute, came over and told them that they could stay after all. But the damage was done.

The detectives, feeling embarrassed, decided to leave anyway. Belleville Police Capt. Don Sax condemned the employee’s treatment of the group in a statement to Fox News’ Todd Starnes.
“The Belleville Police Department is very disheartened by the lack of respect shown to on-duty sworn police officers,” he said. “Until further notice all on duty Belleville Police officers are banned from Denny’s Restaurant unless responding to an official call for service.”
To clear up the situation, a Denny’s spokesperson said that the manager making the initial request was wrong and that police in or out of uniform may carry weapons in the company’s restaurants. The spokesperson dismissed the incident as “miscommunication” and said that the manager was simply trying to do the right thing to address another customer’s complaints.

“Hoplophobia is a pejorative neologism originally coined to describe an “irrational aversion to weapons, as opposed to justified apprehension about those who may wield them.” It is sometimes used more generally to describe the “fear of weapons” or the “highly salient danger of these weapons ” or the “fear of armed citizens”.

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 3:22pmHere is another definition of “pejorative neologism”. Obviously…the patron at Denny’s who wanted the gun “OUT” has major issues.
In psychiatry, the term neologism is used to describe the use of words that have meaning only to the person who uses them, independent of their common meaning.[3] This tendency is considered normal in children, but in adults can be a symptom of psychopathy[4] or a thought disorder (indicative of a psychotic mental illness, such as schizophrenia).[5] People with autism also may create neologisms.[6] Additionally, use of neologisms may be related to aphasia acquired after brain damage resulting from a stroke or head injury.[7]

It is clear to me that the complaining customer was suffering an attack of hoplophobia. Once again, the problem is not the gun, but a loon…, oh wait, not fair to the bird…

This was meant as a joke post correct? If not you and your grandfather need a big old reality check … While I agree in most cases officers are on the scene AFTER a crime is committed, there are occasions where a uniformed officer has stopped a crime in commission. I served for 20 years as an officer, and I can site many cases where officers arriving on the scene during the act stopped the crime in progress … Including the justified shooting affair I was involved in where an armed robber at a pharmacy was stopped for good with nine .40 caliber rounds (He pointed his weapon at the wrong people)
I will leave you with the words spoken to us at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy on my first day in attendance …

Funny how so few MSM outlets are talking about the mass shooting at the theater in San Antonio. I guess that since the wannabe mass murderer and only one victim were shot because a good WOMAN with a gun put four rounds into the miscreant before he could shoot more people keeps it from supporting their agenda and therefore less newsworthy.

Seriously, you people must be devoid of critical thinking skills. I personally vote that EVERY officer should hand in their guns immediately and permanently until they recognize that the Citizens of this nation have just as much and even more of a right to defend themselves as an officer on duty. By the way, the 2nd amendment says “arms”. It does not say firearms, guns, bolt action rifles, bows & arrows, or any other specific armament. The ATF and local law enforcement are constantly confiscating our rights. The ban on explosives is unconstitutional. The tax stamp on automatic weapons is unconstitutional. The defacto registration of guns through FBI background check information is unconstitutional. And all of these are things permitted and promoted by the NRA. Which is why I personally will never support the NRA. To me, they are as much a tyrannical group as the Congress they cow tow to.

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 9:28pmI’m not sure how to feel about Denny’s. On the one hand there’s John Metz, owner of 30 or so Denny’s franchises, who said he was going to charge customers 5% more for each meal to cover the medical insurance he was going to have to provide for his waiters and waitresses under Obamacare (at least the ones he didn’t cut hours on). Alternatively, customers could pay the regular charge for their meal, and then not tip the waitstaff.
I doubt the people who work for him liked that idea much, but f-’em. And if people aren’t willing to work for him for tips, the can go elsewhere. No smart capitalist is going to provide health insurance for their employees if they are poor and desperate for any job! It’s called supply and demand and Christian virtue! You’d have to be stupid to reduce your income to pay for some worthless bum’s health insurance. You got a love a guy like that!

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 10:40pmDenny’s is a dump anyway. I have only eaten there three times in my life:
1. When I was a kid, my parents stopped there for lunch. My father’s lunch was brought to him with eggs stuck to the plate from breakfast.
2. When I was in high-school, the manager that I worked for took us to breakfast after an all night shift at work. The eggs were runny & the bacon was almost raw.
3. About 10-years ago when my wife and I went there for lunch. There was ketchup on my plate, rock hard from breakfast (or some previous meal).
I think the Denny’s manager was a complete idiot listening to some stupid customer that was offended by law enforcement officers & their standard equipment. However, it doesn’t matter what Denny’s attempts for damage control, I haven’t eaten there in years & never will again.

“Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?”
Well, I’m back to remind you WHY there are “police”! Here’s a quote from a really big city’s Mayor:
“I have my own army in the NYPD, which is the seventh biggest army in the world,” said [New York City Mayor Michael] Bloomberg, reports The New York Observer.
That’s right. Today’s “police departments” are nothing more than “standing armies” that America’s Founders warned us against (because they had them, too). They are tyranny’s thugs. Sorry for the splash of cold water in the face to some of you who haven’t thought they are.
They are “hired” to “uphold” the “law” passed by “politicians”. Excuse me? If we Americans walk into Denny’s with our guns, for breakfast, they’ll start a gun fight when we resist being accosted or kidnapped. Just ordinary government thugs:

If you’re in a blue state that is for gun control, maybe, but all restaurants are not like that. And with that said, man things must have changed in 18 years since I’ve been to Northern Illinois. I remember restaurants in North Chicago being very cop friendly. It gave them free protection. And the officers would do extra patrols because they knew who was there. I remember being a ride along, and an officer didn’t see anyone in a local mom and pop restaurant, and stopped to do a well-being check. They happened to be in the back, and fine.

Heh. Welcome to my world, the world of the lawful carrier of sidearms, cops. Fun ain’t it? I heard the interview with some of the cops, they were all agast that anybody would even think it was wise to disarm police, laughed at the temerity of being asked to disarm, etc. and I thought “Yeah buddy, that happens to a lot of other law abiding citizens everyday, many time perpetrated by you guys in blue”.
They really don’t get that they’re not given the “privilege” of bearing arms, they are simply accorded the same right that the rest of us have as well. They really do think that somehow they are an elite few who are enabled to do things the rest of us are not.
In any event, it was funny to hear the incredulity in their voices during the interview I heard.
That said, asking anybody to disarm is stupid. People can be so primitive and emotional and illogical. And by can be I mean “are most of the time”.

I think they should give up guns, night-sticks and any other form of potentially “people-harming” devices and they should all immediately carry pillows. Then when someone threatens them, they can start a pillow-fight. They can follow that up with a new law that states the it is against the law for the bad-guys to also carry concealed weapons or pillows too. Then the officers will have the upper hand as they will be the only people allowed to carry pillows. It will be a one-sided pillow fight and always fall in the favor of the police officers. Just make it a new law, that makes it so, right? Every bad-guy will play fair and not arm themselves with pillows, right? They won’t cheat and put larger, heavier feathers in their pillows and gain the upper hand during a confrontation with the police, will they? Surely they will follow the new laws to the letter, just like we do and like the officers do. Right?

normal is merely making the point that there is much mischievousness bound up in a child that needs attention; the nuns used to ‘discipline’ in the form of a paddle, and no one complained. Then, the kid got paddled again when he got home!
People discipline their dogs, and the dogs give them more respect. There is a link between the lack of discipline and people gone wild. But the connection with ‘school’ and the lady at Denny’s complaining about arms: she was no doubt one who was never disciplined, for it is obvious she does not know her place in public and society.

While I believe that establishments that hang no firearms on premises signs are doing no one a service, if they do post the sign it should be applied to everyone even our law enforcers. No one is above the law, even those who enforce it; and in most, if not all, states the law designates that anyone carrying a weapon on private property that has posted a no gun sign is trespassing. This means that if you are a 7-11 or Wally Mart you might want to re-consider not allowing licensed gun owners from carrying on your premises as it would have to apply to law enforcers as well.

Denny’s can make whatever rules they want, and if you break those rules, it doesn’t mean you’re breaking the law. It means you’re breaking a rule. Like sneaking candy into a movie theater that has “no outside food or drink” posted on the door. With that said, on or off duty, no officer in his right mind is going to go anywhere (ESPECIALLY a Denny’s) without his sidearm. Posted on January 3, 2013 at 3:14pmFrom what I understand if you have a weapon and enter a business that has a no weapons policy, it is not trespassing unless they ask you to leave, and you refuse. At least that is how the law operates in Missouri. That actually applies for anyone asked to leave. Business owners can ask anyone to leave and they must comply unless it is an officer of the law or other emergency personnel performing their duties (EMT, Firefighter, etc). It is a very unlikely scenario where a manager asks an police officer not on official business to leave. It’s seen as uncouth, and disrespectful towards an individual who’s supposed job it is to defend you (its not; their job is to enforce State will, but people still have a Norman Rockwell idea of police officers in general).

Sometimes it’s hard to find, but at least in Florida it’s the gun carriers responsibility to locate any posted signs no matter how small or out of they way they are posted. For a long time I refused to enter any of those stores and restaurants, unfortunately though I got tired of pizza delivery and now just leave the gun at home. To those who say carry anyways… I will not let any private business make a criminal out of me and by carrying on their property you are in fact a criminal.
