This Graphic Anti-Bath Salts PSA Might Make You Want to Take Drugs Just To Forget it

Because “bath salts” have apparently become something of problem in the U.S. Navy, the department decided to release a six minute-plus PSA entitled “BATH SALTS: It’s not a fad…It’s a NIGHTMARE.”
The message? Drugs are bad — really bad:
“Bath salts are a non-regulated designer drug comprised of a synthetic cathinone, or amphetamine, that can have dangerous and debilitating effects on those who use them,” the video’s YouTube description reads.
“The adverse health effects from bath salt use can range from agitation, lack of appetite, kidney failure, muscle spasms, severe paranoid delusions and psychosis. Several cases of long-term patient hospitalization and suicide have been reported,” the discretion adds.
Apparently, bath salts will lead to Satan, girlfriend abuse, and rave music (not necessarily in that order). Don’t do drugs.

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 9:27pmThis “ad” lacks direction. It’s too long for an ad. The droning on by the Lt. turns it into a lecture, rendering the prior 2+ minutes unnecessary. The scene doesn’t seem like a good deterrent. There are plenty of real events involving designer drugs in the military. Why didn’t they do a re-enactment of one of those instead? Then include a link to the lecture for those who want to know more, preferably with a speaker a bit louder and less monotone.

I wouldn’t use them. I think they’re dangerous because there’s no quality control and too many unknowns. You don’t know what compounds you’re getting and you don’t know what amounts are present. Dosing is a matter of trial and error, not to mention that you don’t really know what you’ve ingested until it’s already being metabolized.

Our body is like a “rent a car” from God. The Good Lord gave us a loaner (our body) so we can have the gift of life here on Earth. Let us not trash our bodies and always Praise God.

To be honest though I’ve tried both and the salts were far more benign than meth. People only freak about bath salts because of a few bogus news stories. Toxicology reports have shown the Miami man who famously turned into a ‘zombie’ had ZERO bath salts in his system.

Time will tell what kind of future trips Bath Salts will give many years later.

And they said right upfront all the lovely ways to digest it into the body a little too much before talking about the bad effects. Unfortunately kids today are shown drugs, murder, rape as glamorous. They are taught not to feel so they will most likely play Russian-rullet with their body and the bodies of their friends (and I definitely will not describe how easy it would be). Some things like talking about all the ways to “ingest” drugs isn’t really always a good idea. Just say “when the drug is “ingested into the body” so you don’t give kids all the ideas of how to use it. Just a little common sense note. The man said “sometimes you feel nothing the first time” and now with that kids will always think nothing will probably happen to them anyways. Anyways, thanks for the FYI. and like always….. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS?

Actually, it is because it helps parents know what to watch out for. Many parents that didn’t grow up around people on drugs make the mistake of assuming that there kids will have needle marks on their arms or blood-shot eyes if they are on drugs.. when in reality, many of the symptoms can be easily masked. Kids taking these drugs already know from their peers how to ingest them. Parents are usually clueless.
Also- as a side note- the primary function of this PSA was to educate current members of the Armed Forces about an epidemic of abuse that is running rampant throughout the military right now.

I’d say that the answer is definitely “yes” for BathSalts.
Spice?… while there have been rare reports of aggression, or hallucinations related to synthetic marijuana use, it is all relative and very mild compared to the behavior exhibited by BathSalt usage.
It’s kind of like comparing one can of beer to an entire bottle of Tequila.

Almost every other recreational drug has something attractive about it to potential users.
Even the most addictive (crack, heroin)
or the most unpredictable (LSD, mushrooms)
generate highs that make the user have a temporarily positive experience.
I’ve heard no such things about BathSalts.
