Conn. Police Chief Suspends City Permits for Gun Shows in Response to Sandy Hook Shooting

WATERBURY, Conn. (TheBlaze/AP) — The police chief in a Connecticut city has halted permits for gun shows, saying he’s concerned any firearms purchased there might one day be used in a mass shooting. Considering the furor raging on both sides of the gun control debate, this action will certainly capture attention.

The Republican-American reports that Waterbury Police Superintendent Michael Gugliotti imposed a moratorium the day after the Dec. 14 killings of 20 children and six educators at a grade school not far away in Newtown.

He says he’s concerned a gun used in a future mass shooting could be traced to a purchase made at a show in Waterbury.

Westchester Collectors Inc. had planned a firearm and knife show for Jan. 12 and 13. Show organizer Newman B. Chittenden says canceling the gun show will not improve security.

He says that vendors will turn away people who have mental health problems and that they use common sense when evaluating whether to sell. The company’s web site currently shows that the upcoming gun show is cancelled.

The back alley “gun shows” where the criminals buy their guns will proceed without interruption, as they ignore all these laws and decrees anyway. No background checks, no waiting periods, no limits.

Apparently their anti-gun laws are already working so well for them.

What an idiot…..Gugliotti….Giuliani… I fail to see the difference.

This guy needs to have a conversation with the Pa. police chief that is proposing a law for his town that will not recognize any laws passed federally, or locally that is not in harmony with “will not be infringed”.

All gun dealers that sell at gun shows must by federal law do background checks just like if you went in their stores. Now some states like mine allow private individuals to sell at gun shows without doing background checks, and this is no different than making a private transaction between private individuals. And no, criminals don’t obtain their guns at shows, they either steal them, or buy them off the black market such as from gangs.

If they had put one of their elite armed cops in that school years ago, all those kids would be alive today. OFTEN GUNS USED TO KILL WERE GUNS POLICE HAD TAKEN FROM CRIMINALS AND CERTIFIED HAD BEEN DESTROYED.

The police state police are never asked to explain how these killings happen. Its not the police who decide about shutting down gun shows or shops because someone may get shot. Are the police saying only stolen or donated guns can be used to kill? How can all these criminals be committing suicide or is it really the police being executioners?

POLICE WILL ELIMINATE JURY TRIALS LIKE THEY HAVE ELIMINATED SEARCH WARRANTS

Why have a trial by jury, the police can just carry out their kind of justice at the scene of the crime. The police like being able to attack mentally impaired people and people with diabetes. They like using the TASER guns because the 23000 volt shock results in short term memory loss. If TASERed, the victim cannot remember.

It may be a big mistake having armed police in schools. When cute looking mothers come to school, the armed cop may decide to perform a TSA style grouping. They are already performing virginal cavity searches on cute teen girls for routine traffic stops.

Mothers, stop telling you babies the police are our friends.

Remember police do not protect people they protect the law. Police cannot and rarely protect people they show up after the fact. Laws work for people who will obey them, so why is it we only punish those who obey laws by deminishing their rights I guess it looks good and seems like you are doing something when infact you are impotent.
Police need to nut up and do the job they were hired to do and quit trying to look important by harassing Honest citizens,

I say ban tires. This eliminates automobile accidents and death. No bicyles to dodge. No airplanes to fly into buildings. No semis clogging the roadway. No lawnmowers or snowblowers to make noise. Think of all the lives saved by this simple ban plus we reduce our carbon footprint. Go Green. Ban tires.

On the serious side, I guess I can understand this decision because it is made on emotion and the horror of so many young lives taken. He is just not using rational thinking. Rationally, he does know that guns don’t kill, people do. He is engaged in magical thinking. If he can’t handle murder, he shouldn’t be a cop.

Most Gun Laws are based on Interstate commerce.
Why not then turn the table on them and use the same laws against them.
When you travel across state line to a gun show and are then prevented for selling your wears
they are interfering with interstate commerce.
If the gun you are trying to sell was Manufactured in a different state they are also guilty.
If you pass threw California on your way to Arizona to compete with your AR-`15.
If they forbid you, they are in violation of intestate commerce.
How about the Motel. Gas station that will not get your Business. Is this not Interstate commerce?
Sue Them And force them to adhere to the United State Constitution.

He had better take the guns away from his deputies…
I am worried one might be overpowered and the firearm used to commit murder.
In fact, he had better not let them drive… their cruisers could be used for murder as well…
and their tazers, and night sticks… mace could contribue to incapacitating a victim who was then killed.

the argument is ridiculous, and the implements of murder are too vast and varied to prevent people with malice in their heart from obtaining and using some weapon.

this is an example of trying to implement a police state, preventing LAW ABIDING citizens from becoming gun owners. It is beyond the scope of his position, or if within the scope, he is using his judgement in a clearly biased way, which should be grounds for his removal.
