December Jobs Numbers: Unemployment Rises to 7.8% (And Nov. Numbers Revised Higher)

In this Wednesday, Dec. 12 2012 photo, Taneshia Wright, of Manhattan, fills out a job application during a job fair in New York. Credit: AP
The monthly jobs data for December released on Friday shows the unemployment rate rose to 7.8%. U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs.
However, the number “rising” is an interesting term — and one much of the media and the government isn’t using. That’s because the Labor Department on Friday revised November’s numbers from 7.7 percent to 7.8 percent. That means this month — after revisions — there was technically no rise or fall.
“[W]ho else is surprised that the rate is now rising with Obama reelected?” Zero Hedge asks. “The November unemployment rate was revised from 7.7% to 7.8%, just so headlines can proclaim the rate was unchanged.”
In November, it was originally reported that the rate fell from 7.9 to 7.7 percent. But the numbers came under scrutiny because so many had dropped out of the workforce. The labor participation rate remains the same for December.
This is a breaking story. Updates will be added.

Who would have ever thought it would take less than 8 years to destroy freedom and the greatest nation to exist since the dawn of man.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 11:27amIt’s not just 8 years. It’s taken them since Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Rosevelt to do this. The ‘leftists’ banded together, made a plan, and executed it with amazing longsuffering precision. They had their setbacks but now they have bought the souls of enough American’s to have them slaved to the US government. Those people got the President re-elected along with the apathy of the center and right of center conservative leaning voters.
I keep pointing this out but if everyone that had voted for John McCain voted for Romney plus the independents that voted for Romney, we wouldn’t be talking about term #2 for President Obama. We would be talking about just how deep we can cut the first year, just how much we can cut each year and stimulate growth at the same time. Those are the debates we should be having…
… instead we are talking Gun Control, debt ceilings (which shouldn’t even be allowed to go up) and a rediculous ‘kiss it and make it better’ approach to the ‘fiscal cliff’. Eh, what can we expect from a Country enamored of Honey Boo Boo and celebrities that have the moral fortitude of wet tissue paper.
Unemployment numbers are meaningless. They actually have no bearing on anything in the current environment. They are a red cape from a Matador and we are all driving at it like it’s our target. Meanwhile the party in power just shouts “Ole!” as we dance to the rythm of the master manipulator.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 10:46amWhy are the false numbers even reported by our media? We all know the rate is closer to 20% when it comes down to people who are actually unemployed and not just people still looking for work. What a joke. Just look at the decrease in those who get unemployment and the increase in those on disability. There are your numbers.

Just as long as they get their Obammy stash. The only way to save our nation is for the GOP to stand up and stop bending over starting with the next debt ceiling debate in a couple months. Posted on January 4, 2013 at 9:14amUnemployment numbers will eventually rise as more people fall off UC or quit looking for work, etc.
That aside, did anyone expect the unemployments numbers to stay low? Anyone? It sure was strange how the unemplyment numbers started to dip just before the election and then rose after the election. The unemployment number (U3) is a joke and has been manipulated substantially by this and other administrations. Watch the U6 number. That is the important one.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 9:43amAs more people reenter the work force because the jobs outlook might be improving we would see a necessary rise in the official unemployment rate. That doesn’t seem to be the case in December, as participation rate stayed the same. The participation rate is key, and how they manipulate the number. Things are not getting better and with the new regulations (new costs) new taxes (new costs) what economic concept is being used that people assume that the economic outlook will markedly improve? The vast majority of leftists do not understand economics, nor the advantages of a limited government and increased liberty and freedom in creating wealth.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 8:54am@ SnowLeopard – Nah – numbers will creep up, NOT ONLY because they’re truer, but because Barry needs QE6, AND another tax increase.
You see, things have gotten worse than “they” thought, and now EVERYBODY (the lower 26%) will have to pay their “fair share”.
Current (flat) tax rate in the former Soviet empire is 13%. It was the former Soviet propaganda machine that recently warned US citizens NOT to surrender our weapons. Erah, and it takes “one” (commie) to know “one”.

Posted on January 4, 2013 at 8:45amSo we see the numbers beginning to creep upward again, and given the fact Obama no longer needs to worry about being reelected, he may allow the truth to come out for his political gain.
I can see him using a ‘sudden’ upswing in unemployment numbers, especially after the recent fiscal-cliff taxation fiasco, to lay a claim for ‘more spending, more taxation, more government to make more jobs.’
Of course such madness will only escalate the cycle of economic destruction of the nation until we collapse completely. Understand clearly – Obama is insane, and he cares nothing for the nation or for the American way of life or our freedoms. He has nothing to hold him back.

I was hoping that the fiscal cliff would have gone unresolved- All Americans need to feel the real pain of where we truly are. Postponing the pain by borrowing $.46 of every dollar is only ensuring complete collapse- and soon. When does the government quit hitting the snooze and actual wake up to the alarm? How do we wake the people- or is it too late?
