The Sort-of Creepy Compilation of Joe Biden at Thursday’s Swearing-In Ceremonies: Stroking Women’s Faces and Recycling One-Liners

We already brought you one of the oh-no lines from Joe Biden during Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected senators (the “spread your legs” one). But there was more of that going on than we even realized. The folks over at Talking Points Memo published a compilation showing much much more.

What do we mean? Well, there is him repeating the line “you have a smile that lights up the room” to several women in addition to, “as they say in southern Delaware, you’ve done good.”

And then there’s his affinity for two particular elderly women:

  Maybe, but seriously, I have seen this behavior at upper-management work get-togethers, church gatherings, academia gatherings, just people getting with people and I am not taking up for the VP, just noting that Ms. Manners and Amy Vanderbilt’s advice may need to be updated–hey, is this my new calling?!! And go figure the behavior at services for funerals, weddings, just anywhere I happen to go it seems people show off their prowess with other people while I quietly observe–pretty cool position to be in really. Guys after a game? Gals after any social outing? Maybe it is just the part of the country and town I live in (southern part and people get a little touchy-feely over most things).

I don’t have anything against somebody taking a drink when they have nothing important to do but if you hold a high position in the US government, you need to keep your mind sober and clear. The lives of millions could depend on it.
