‘My Wife Is a Hero’: Georgia Mother Shoots Home Intruder Five Times After Being Cornered in Attic
A Georgia mother and her two young children are unharmed after a man broke into their house with a crowbar on Friday, cornering them in an attic crawlspace.
According to WSB-TV, the woman was at home with her nine-year-old twins when the doorbell rang. When they didn’t answer, the man reportedly went back to his car and returned with a crowbar.

The mother said she could see the suspect– now identified as Paul Slater– trying to enter the house with the crowbar from her office window. Without hesitation, she grabbed her children, her phone, her gun, and ran upstairs.
One can only imagine the breathless moments after the man broke down the door and began searching the house.

But the man eventually found the family.
“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” [Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman] told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.
“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.
The woman ran to a neighbor’s home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said. [Emphasis added]
Slater– who was taken to the hospital with punctured lungs, a punctured liver, and a punctured stomach– has reportedly been arrested six times since 2008.

WSB-TV continues:
“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner,” [the woman's husband] Donnie Herman said.
He said he’s thankful for his family’s safety.
“Her life is saved, and her kids’ life is saved, and that’s all I’d like to say,” Herman said.
Commenters have overwhelmingly agreed with the husband thus far– one Savannah Morning News reader even posting a similar story illustrating the importance of the woman’s firearm.
In the other report, after an unarmed woman’s home was robbed, she was the one who ended up in the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Or at least use some aggressive hollow points so the doctor has a greater challenge and on the job training, even try transplanting all the organs on his right side to the left and left to right invite all the first year med student to do the same keep score on how many times it can be done before he expires. Do the same with all perps., wounded gang members, and drug addicts, hold contests.

The perfect case for why small capacity arms are not enough to protect your life. Based on the report the woman fired on center mass, scoring hits to lungs, liver and stomach. In liberal fantasy land 5 rounds would be over kill. In realville, it wasn’t near enough. If the perp had had a gun the woman and kids would probably be dead cause she didn’t have a high enough capacity gun.

There’s alot of retribution to be acted on yet. So many past acts of discrimination that this white woman’s descendent’s could have been guilty of.

I’ve had conversations with military people regarding this subject. It’s a preference issue, stop aggrandizing. I call it a clip, it holds 7(+1) and nobody has a seizure at the range. My son carries an M-16 in the sand pit, he calls it a magazine. I don’t know how many rounds, but he spends every spare minute cleaning the dang thing (friggin’ sand).
I live where the buffalo roam. But technically they are called BISON. I will correct (under my breath) when a yankee comes out here and calls them buffalos. They are Bison.
So, in conclusion, the point is: THEY ARE THE SAME DAMN THINGS!

This will not become a piss ing contest. This is a story about a woman who successfully defended her family from a career criminal.
Yes a magazine is what feeds the weapon. A clip (as in a stripper) is used to feed the magazine. Clips make loading a magazine easier and faster. IN SOME CASES a clip is required for a magazine to work.
YET, magazines, used in smaller firearms are loaded by the user (I prefer my upLula), so the ‘clip’ is manually loaded with “a complete round OR cartridge”…. commonly referred to as ammo.
So relax, and when a person loads ammo into a clip and inserts it into a firearm and consistently hits the center mass of a police target while practicing at a range, please do not yell at these people, or begin to postulate on proper terminology – they are not the liberal, anti-gun crowd….they want to protect their families from a tyrannical government….and criminals.

Firing in a real life or death situation isn’t the same as firing in the safety of a shooting range. That fact that she hit 5 out of 6 sounds is a damn fine display of shooting from someone who probably isn’t professionally trained as the police or military would be. The issue here isn’t her it’s the caliber used. A .40 S&W caliber firearm would have changed the entire outcome. In a way the .38 may help psychologically as she didn’t kill him. Time will tell.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 9:46amThis shooting took place in less then 5 ft. She hit her intended target. Myth = people who get shot go down and stay down. This guy took 5 slugs, got up went to his car, drove 1 block down the street before crashing. He could have easily killed her and her children. She did good by running away when she ran out of ammo. I would say she was using a 2″ air weight. She would not have hit him 3-4 more times if she had +p. Also, add the adrenaline and fear factor – she did very good.
Everyone thinks they are “crack shots” in the range against paper. It is a lot different in the real world. I applaud her on a very good job.

As a fellow Georgian, I am thankful that she has the freedom to protect herself and her family without being penalized. She did great keeping her head about her by grabbing the items she did along with her children.
Regarding the idea that he may sue-don’t count on it. Not in that county and less-so in Ga. This type of obvious self-defense case would make it very unlikely that he would get very far in the court system. He’s also a repeat offender which weakens him.
That home won’t be burglarized again by any thieves that are paying attention.

And, according to the class I took for my CCW, she should have called 911 at some point – that is, if she had a portable phone or cellphone. They tell you in the class that this is what you are supposed to do.
I PERSONALLY, FIND NO FAULT WITH EVERYTHING SHE DID! BRAVO TO THIS LADY.
She just opened herself up to a lawsuit.

I read the article, the fact remains that it’s news about a woman who defended her family.
I never claimed I was proficient at firearms, (never stated, inferred or implied as such).
Nor do ‘cut and paste’ from a gun book (?) The only ‘gun books’ I know of are at the home of my son, and he is out of the country. If I need info, I talk to professionals.
So, if we meet at the range, and I take my clip, load it with ammo, insert it into my gun and practice hitting center mass on a green police practice target (as a first responder, I also attempt hitting areas consistent with the carotid artery and areas that would be locations of the femoral arteries, please leave me along, I’m concentrating.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 1:37pmNo high cap mags neccessary. A double-action revolver is the best choice af gun, esp for a woman. Simple to use, can’t jam, can’t go off accidentally. Safest all around gun (for the one shooting it, that is). What she should have had was the gun stored in or near a belted holster full of spare rounds. Then she could have reloaded, and with practice, a revolver can be reloaded pretty fast.

I tell my wife to keep shooting until the threat has stopped, because I don’t want her to go to jail. Shoot to kill = go to jail. Shoot to stop the threat (center mass, no warning shots), and you’re clear.
I have to recomend against shotguns for home defense, unless you are an experienced shooter and willing to get the TRAINING, not just target shooting, to use a shotgun. They are effective but also the most awkward to handle in the house and many people have a hard time with the recoil.
P.S. you still have to aim them!

The only sure way of stopping an assailant is to sever the central nervous system with the bullet (head or neck or central spine). I’ve read stories from FBI analysis of perpetrators being dropped with a single .22 cal round and others taking a full magazine of .45 ACP in the chest and still running several blocks. The choice of weapon for her should be a caliber and size that she is comfortable with. A revolver (most often 6 rounds) is less likely to jam than an automatic. It’s often less complicated to use for the amateur. 5 out of 6 rounds in the guy was pretty good in a life and death situation. Remember the trained cops in NYC hit 7 or more bystanders trying to take down the shooter at the Empire State Building. Shame the perp survived the encounter, objectively. Subjectively it might be better for her since the taking of human life can weigh heavily on some, despite the inhuman nature of the assailant.

As far as the clip thing, it ticks me off that some liberal academic that’s never held a gun in his life can lecture the entire country on what something is called even though it’s been called that since anyone can ever remember. Stick this magazine crap, a magazine is a publication put out in issues on a regular basis, not a part for a gun.(See, I can play that game to.)

Now if she semi auto 9mm or ar15 she could take at least 2 or even three. With AR15 with lazer no one will mess with or take a chance to take step foreward. However, there are hundereds of women and young girls that rapped or killed annually that not one person hears about. If they have gun the outcome maybe different. Approximately 1982 I was driving down a dark road after 11 at night going home from work. I noticed car pulled on the side of road and two guys struggling with a gril. I turned around and parked behind the car, pull my gun out and asked to let her go. I am 100 pounds about 5 feet. She was walking home after friends abonded here. This was before cell phone. I saved her life or from rape because I had a gun. They let her go because I had my gun pointed at them. So Prez, Guns do save life every day.

I’ve had conversations with military people regarding this subject.
Well, now you’re have another conversation with a “military person” i.e. 11A for ten years. I don’t know what other types of military personnel you have spoken to, but if you were to tell a Marine infantryman or an Army infantryman that a magazine and a clip are the same thing, you would have gotten laughed out of the vicinity. Let me see if I can educate you a little. A “clip” is a strip of steel with the edges folded over forming a channel wide enough and deep enough to capture the rim of a firearm cartridge in the channel. It may also have a strip of spring steel down the center channel that is angled up at each end to prevent the cartridges from sliding out or it may just have simple tabs that are folded up at each end to hold the cartridges in place. A clip normally holds five or ten rounds. It is dependent on whether it is used to charge loose magazines or fixed magazines in a weapon such as a Springfield M1903 which has a fixed five round magazine in the stock of the weapon. Of course I have just told you there are two types of magazines: fixed and detachable. A detachable magazine is technically known as a box magazine. The term “magazine” in military usage initiated with the Navy in that it was the location where the ready ammunition was stored for the big guns on deck. A clip is a device for loading a magazin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Police say that the man killed in the home invasion robbery in Sacramento was one of the intruders, and the homeowner was among the three people wounded.
Sacramento police spokesman Officer Doug Morse says when officers were called to a home around 3:30 a.m. Saturday they found that four people had been shot in an exchange of gunfire between the homeowner and the intruders.
One of the robbery suspects died at the scene, while the homeowner and two other suspects were hospitalized with non-life threatening wounds.
Police say one of the two suspects – 21-year-old Thomas Ordonaz -has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. No other names have been released.
Morse says the robbery attempt took place while a number of young people were in the home during a sleepover, but that none were injured in the shooting.
