New York Man Kills His Grandmother in Fight Over What to Watch on TV

Police say a New York man killed his grandmother in an argument over what to watch on television.

Clarence Newcomb, 25, was arrested Friday at the home he shared with 82-year-old Kathleen Newcomb on Long Island, the Associated Press reported.

Police in Suffolk County said they received a call at 4:35 a.m. from a man saying the woman was lying on the floor.

“By the time the police got there, it was obvious she was DOA,” Det. Sgt. John Best told Newsday. “They were arguing over the television and what they were going to watch on TV.”

Medical officials have not determined how Kathleen Newcomb died and no weapons were recovered, according to the AP.

Clarence Newcomb faces a first-degree manslaughter charge, Newsday reported. He was scheduled to be arraigned Saturday.

Best said Kathleen Newcomb basically raised her grandson and that he lived with her most of his life.

A police lieutenant told the AP he did not know which television shows were involved in the fight.

I never liked watching endless sports on TV like my husband did, he was an addict. So I watched what I wanted on another TV. When he picked sports over me, plus cheated on me, I dropped his sorry a$$ and took all the furniture.

If officials have not determined how she died and no weapons recovered, how have they determined he killed her? She could’ve had a heart condition known or unknown. Could have had acute attack with no known prior history of cardiac issues. She could’ve been arguing on street with a cabbie and had the same outcome. Would the cabbie then be facing 1st degree murder charges? Doesn’t add up as of yet

  Barber2, my daughter and I were discussing that just 3 days ago. The truth is that Christians are mostly to blame for the fact that so many people turn to Islam in prison. The Bible specifically commands us to remember and visit the prisoners regularly. How many Christians do that? Instead of following these commands, most Christians prefer to relegate the job to a couple of pastors and leave it at that. Muslims are more faithful about the treatment of imprisoned people. People in prison see that faithfulness and it’s attractive. If Christians can’t even show that they are willing to follow the basic commands, then it’s hard to expect them to hold onto whatever nominal belief system they had before incarceration.
