Powerful Earthquake Strikes Off Alaska Coast, Triggering Tsunami Warning

Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Strikes Off Alaska Coast, Triggering Tsunami Warning

Source: USGS

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A powerful earthquake sparked a tsunami warning for hundreds of miles of Alaskan and Canadian coastline, but the alert was canceled when no damaging waves were generated.

The magnitude 7.5 quake did generate a tsunami, but the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said the waves didn’t pose a threat.

The temblor struck at midnight Friday (1 a.m. PST Saturday) and was centered about 60 miles west of Craig, Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The tsunami followed minutes later and was eventually expanded to include coastal areas from Cape Fairweather, Alaska, to the northern tip of Vancouver Island, Canada – an area extending more than 700 miles.

A center had warned that “significant widespread inundation of land is expected,” adding that dangerous coastal flooding was possible.

In its cancellation statement, the center said that some areas were seeing just small sea level changes.

“A tsunami was generated during this event but no longer poses a threat,” the center said.

After one community reported seeing just a small wave, the police in the coastal town of Cordova said they had no reports of any problems.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center said the quake was widely felt but it received no reports of any damage.

In addition to the warning, a tsunami advisory was briefly in effect for some Alaska coastal areas to the north of the warning zone, as well as to the south of the zone, from the Washington state border to the northern tip of Vancouver Island.

A tsunami warning means an area is likely to be hit by a wave, while an advisory means there may be strong currents, but that widespread inundation is not expected to occur.

This follows Bible prophecy. The past ten years have seen an increase of these quakes. Along with other signs. Read 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Also the scripture Matthew 24: 7 Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

Perhaps reading comprehension and shapes of our states are not your forte. The star on the map if you look closely shows that it is off part of Alaska. Alaska territory parallels parts of Canada. Learn your geography.

In the three gospels of Mattew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21, Christ gives us signs of the end of this earth age and when that end time will commence. People should be aware that the planting of Judah in the Land of Israel (1947-46) started that final generation (Jeremiah 24), called the generation of the fig.
That said, Luke calls the earth quakes which are defined as signs Megas or our word Mega. Our Lord and Savior defined a generation in which his prophecy would occur. Generations are defined as 70,80 and 120 years in length. The final generation started between Dec 1947 and May 1948 (interestingly enough – Winter).
Since that time, Mega earth quakes have been on the rise, and since the last two decades, they have increased in quantity. According to NOAA data, mega earthquakes only occurred once or twice a decade, now they occur every year and usually in in mass numbers every year. But don’t take my word for it, go look up the data yourself. Some say this is just better methods of measurement, however when Mega earthquakes strike, better measurement is not required, everyone is well assured of their existence. This is why Mega was chosen as an end times identification and not simply earthquake.

To state that earthquakes, worldwide, are increasing in frequency based on observations of global incidence over a less than 100 year period is akin to stating that the polar ice caps are melting based on global temperature observations over the same time period. Earthquake incidence and climate changes follow a chaotic pattern. Our time frame of observance is too short. In other words, statistically, the observation time cohort is too small.

I am tired of hearing that the sky is falling. Be prepared for Salvation, but only God knows what is to come.

I should have stated that the observation time cohort is too short (not small). The best example of chaotic activity is small retail store traffic. A store that receives 960 customers over a 16 hour period does not see one customer every one minute. They arrive chaotically in chunks. To state that a store is going to succeed or fail based on a 30 second observation of traffic patterns would be short sighted as there may be one or 100 customers entering the store during that period.

Funny how the media cover 10 hours of Tsunami warnings when it was to hit Hawaii but this morning…NOTHING. Alaska is onservative so I guess they want people there to die.

Anyone know if Glenn is going to keep promoting the Michael Vey books as books for your kids to read? They are filled with children committing violence against adults and other children as well as torture. Anyone know?

Yeah I know just trying to get this point out there. I believe if a man is going to tell people they shouldn’t be letting their children watch violent movies or play violent video games, which I agree with, then he needs to step up, lead, and stop promoting violent books as something for your children to read. It’s called leading by example. He can talk all day about not letting his kids watch violent tv, movies, and video games but unless he polices his own products he is just blowing hot air. Just making a point and hoping it will reach him so he can address it.

Enormous difference between reading words and watching violence or playing interactive video games. No room here for the explanation of the difference in how our brains process the two. Suffice it to say that shooting people in video games desensitizes the brain to violence while reading words causes cognitive analysis and reflection to occur in the frontal cortex. The video game or movie desensitizes the frontal cortex. The written word sensitizes thoughtful reflection of what is read.

Just hoping the irony makes it to Glenn. I have been to every event except Israel. Also shouldn’t we make sure our media keeps it right?
      @kerstile
Okay so when you read you don’t picture what you are reading. Have you read those books? They couldn’t get on the big screen without an R rating for the violence that is in them. I am just hoping that by bringing this up it will reach Glenn and he can address it. Is there anything wrong with that or should we just follow blindly like sheep as we conservatives are always accused of doing. The books are violent and he should not be promoting them as children’s books. Would you like your child reading pornography. After all it is just words they are reading they aren’t watching or playing it. Also I agree that kids shouldn’t watch or play the violent stuff but they also shouldn’t be reading it.

How so? For those of you who have Liberal logic. Please note that parts of Alaska territory parallels parts of Canada. I realize learning is hard for you, but try to do some research first before you open your mouth to paper. Also learn the shapes of your states.
