Which Democratic Freshman Is Opposing ‘Extreme’ Gun Control? Find Out Here
If we told you a Democratic Senator had openly criticized the Obama administration for pushing “extreme” measures on gun control that don’t address the problem, while proudly advertising an “A” rating from the NRA, would you believe it?
You should, because that’s exactly what’s happening right now. The Washington Post reports that Senator Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota has done all of the above and then some in criticizing her party’s moral panic over guns in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting:
“I think you need to put everything on the table, but what I hear from the administration — and if the Washington Post is to be believed — that’s way, way in extreme of what I think is necessary or even should be talked about. And it’s not going to pass,” Heitkamp said on ABC News’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.”[...]
Heitkamp, a freshman senator, has received an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association, the nation’s largest gun-rights group. She said that addressing mental health issues should also be an important part of curbing mass violence.
“Let’s start addressing the problem. And to me, one of the issues that I think comes — screams out of this is the issue of mental health and the care for the mentally ill in our country, especially the dangerously mentally ill. And so we need to have a broad discussion before we start talking about gun control,” Heitkamp said.
Watch Heitkamp make these comments on the “This Week” panel below:
Heitkamp’s apparent heresy relative to her party is not a new phenomenon in the Senate. Every now and then a legislator will buck their party on an issue that, while beloved by the national party leadership, is a surefire loser in their home state. Democrat Joe Manchin has bucked the Democrats before on issues pertaining to energy for precisely this reason. Heitkamp, who pulled out a surprise upset against Republican Rick Berg last year, must be aware that she needs to cultivate the love of her home state if she wants to avoid future vulnerability. This type of messaging certainly accomplishes that goal.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I wonder if the Army killer in Afghanistan was on this drug.

The problem is, there is a way to minimize damage caused by the lunatics by reducing fire power and that will appeal to the vocal gun opponents. What we really need is a waiting period before legislation can be introduced so cooler heads prevail and not a kneejerk result nobody wants in ten years.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 6:50pmFrom the Washington Post: Timing is imperative
Obama’s advisers have calculated that the longer they wait, the more distance there is from the Newtown massacre and the greater the risk that the bipartisan political will to tackle gun violence will dissipate.
“This is not something that I will be putting off,” Obama said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” in an interview broadcast last Sunday.
At the White House meeting, Stanek said, “the vice president indicated that there was a very short timeline for him to get back to the president with his recommendations because the American public has a short memory.”
Already, three weeks after the Newtown shooting, gun-control advocates are growing impatient with a legislative process that is just beginning.
“As we get involved in these ad nauseam debates over the Second Amendment, our children are still at risk,” said Jon Adler, national president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association. “Debating is not the action verb we need to protect our children.”
It also states in the article that they are planning an end run around Congress so we the people do not have a say in this. This will be another late night cram down your throat legsilation that no one reads. Do not comply.

The irrational gun control measures these lunatics want to pass will do nothing to stop criminals from committing murder. The law abiding citizens will feel the impact immediately if these laws are passed. Criminals could care less.
Just like you can get drugs on every corner, place a ban on semi-automatic rifles or handguns and they will be easier to get. Prohibition on anything has never worked, it only makes the problem worse.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is still trying to rig the Senate rules so that President Barack Obama can get his anti-gun and anti-Constitution agenda passed.
But first, here’s some good news.
GOA activists like yourself are having an impact!
Prior to the New Year, the reports coming out of Washington, DC indicated that Senator Harry Reid was going to nuke the filibuster on the first day of the new Congress (which would have been yesterday).
But Politico, which is one of the official papers of Capitol Hill, reported yesterday that Reid still doesn’t have the votes — despite having a Democrat majority.
The Politico headline blared: “Reid expected to Postpone Filibuster Rule Change: May buy time for a bipartisan bill.”
This is somewhat good news, as it means that Reid still can’t cram a rules change down our throats, limiting the ability that pro-gun Senators have to filibuster (or kill) anti-gun legislation.
But here’s the bad news: Reid is working on a “compromise” where certain RINO’s like John McCain will help Reid do his bidding.

Well, The Blaze reported yesterday that Vice President Joe Biden “guaranteed” to ailing Boston Mayor Tom Menino that sweeping gun control legislation would be passed by the end of January.
How sweeping?
A quick look at Feinstein’s semi-auto ban legislation suggests that up to 75% of all handguns currently in circulation would be banned, along with as much as 50% of all long guns.
Depending on its configuration, the AR-15 you already have would probably be treated like a machine gun. You would have to be fingerprinted, background checked by the FBI, and undergo a six-month license application process to keep it. And when you die, the government will seize it.
If you don’t get an NFA license, you can expect the SWAT teams to descend on your house.
But, you ask, how could such rabidly anti-gun legislation ever get past Congress? Well, legislators could simply follow the path they took on the fiscal cliff, where they bludgeoned a minority of Senators into accepting several, coerced short-cuts in regard to the Senate rules.
However, these forced short-cuts would now become mandated and set in stone if Harry Reid & Co. get their way.
Under one new “compromise” being floated on Capitol Hill, the Senate would change its rules so that it could pass a gun ban with only 50 votes (plus the vote of Vice President Joe Biden). Or legislators could write the gun ban in a House-Senate conference committee on a “must-pass” bill, emplo

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 10:20pmUnder one new “compromise” being floated on Capitol Hill, the Senate would change its rules so that it could pass a gun ban with only 50 votes (plus the vote of Vice President Joe Biden). Or legislators could write the gun ban in a House-Senate conference committee on a “must-pass” bill, employing a tactic that is frequently used to pass controversial legislation. Democrats like West Virginia’s Joe Manchin, Nevada’s Harry Reid, and Pennsylvania’s Bob Casey — who will not have to run for reelection for a while — will cast “courageous” votes for this gun ban.
And it will hit the House with enormous momentum — momentum which House Speaker John Boehner (who has already called for a dialogue on gun control) may not have the courage to resist.
But the first step will be to demolish the Senate rules so that gun control only requires 50 votes — or so that gun control can be inserted in a House-Senate conference report on a must-pass bill. And this is where John McCain comes in.
GOA working with Senator Rand Paul to preserve the filibuster
McCain was irritated at Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, who worked with Gun Owners of America on a variety of pro-gun issues that slowed down his defense funding bill. So McCain would not lose any sleep if his rules “compromise” diminished our ability to kill anti-gun legislation in the future.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 10:22pmMcCain is now working with Leftist anti-gun Senator Carl Levin on a series of rules changes to make gun control a lot easier to pass.
The first McCain-Levin rules change would make it impossible to fight — what’s known in Washington as — the “motion to proceed.” Remember ObamaCare? Our last real shot to kill ObamaCare was by filibustering the “motion to proceed” to that anti-gun legislation. Once the motion was adopted, the bill became amendable and Harry Reid could play “let’s-make-a-deal.” So this change would eliminate our last real opportunity to set up a roadblock and keep anti-gun legislation from even being considered.
The second McCain-Levin rules change would make it easier to add gun control to a bill in conference. Currently, senators can block a House-Senate conference from considering an anti-gun bill. But if the McCain proposals are adopted, a “must-pass” bill could be sent to conference … amended in conference with a draconian gun ban … and then sent back to the House and the Senate on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.
McCain will try to tell you that that inserting a gun ban into a bill that is sitting in a House-Senate conference would be outside the “scope of conference.” But that would be a lie, because as any Senator knows, “scope of conference” rules are never followed. For example, the Gramm-Rudman spending guidelines were written in conference from the ground up.
The third McCain-Levin rules change would block an

This McCain-Levin package must be stopped.
We are currently working with Senator Rand Paul, who is planning to offer a GOA-originated amendment requiring a two-thirds vote in the Senate before any anti-gun measure can be passed.
We know. We know. If it were up to us, gun control would not be able to be passed with 100 votes. But we need to propose something which will pass the Senate.
So we need your help in opposing the McCain package and supporting the Paul amendment.
ACTION: Demand your Senators that they (1) oppose the McCain-Levin package to make gun control easier to pass, and (2) support the Rand Paul amendment to require a two-thirds vote to enact gun control.
And lastly, The BLAZE NEEDS TO GIVE US MORE ROOM TO POST.

This question has not really been addressed by the courts as ruling’s have gone both way in the past, and pose major questions over all types of laws.

How people in DC or Chicago justify their draconian laws and subdued their population for this long is beyond me
I believe it is this way, Our schools have kept kids ignorant of the constitution on purpose,Most adults have no idea what the 2nd even is let alone its meaning, Our legislators know exactly what the meaning is but fawn ignorance and claim otherwise if asked to keep the agenda of a total gun ban moving forward. And They had almost totally gotten away with it ….
But very recently I have begun to see a glimmer of hope and an awakening within the pro gun world. Hunters actually backing AK and AR shooters and defending target shooters weapons when before they were like “ban them evil black rifles,it does not affect me”. I have also seen a small interest in wanting to at least look into this gun thing by some almost rabid antis. When before they would not even consider talking about a gun …EVER. So there is hope.

My Democratic congressman was endorsed by the frauds at the NRA over a rock solid conservative Republican who would have fought tooth and nail to protect all of the Constitution, not just the 2nd Amendment. Not talking about a RINO republican, yet the NRA saw fit to endorse the Democrat over him. What now? This Democrat is denouncing the NRA and is talking about “common sense” gun laws in light of the Sandy Hook murders.
Most Republicans cannot be trusted. No Democrat can ever be trusted. And the NRA cannot be trusted. Try a different organization like Gun Owners of America. Their chairman, Larry Pratt, went toe to toe with Piers Morgan shortly after the shootings. Much better organization to stand up for our rights.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 5:44pmI’m afraid that ‘good citizens’ and ‘voting democrat’ are mutually exclusive. Heitkamp is a democrat, which, to any ‘good citizen’ should have been enough reason not to vote for her – especially with obama in the White House. She supports the democrat party and obama – she cannot be trusted.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 5:35pmHi MONK, I tend to believe that was for her constituents’ consumption. Just wait and watch for her voting record to become known.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 5:45pmAs Heidi’s master I can assure you dear loyal subject that she will get the memo when she’s in my presence and I’ll explain to her in no uncertain terms that I’m going to have an outright ban on guns in my new America. Praise be to me BHO. I know you must feel shaken that I’ve taken the time to address you so please don’t faint I’m going to need all the able bodies my regime can round up for my concentration camps. You’ll have a sense of peace knowing you’re working hard for me and my beard and two illegitimate kids. Praise be to me BHO.

Posted on January 6, 2013 at 6:43pmGYRO: Yes. The ” character assassination” we have become so familiar with our Chicago radicals ! There will be some big, bad secret which the MSM will run on her front page of the lefty NYT ! …IF she doesn’t shut up . The Chicago radicals use the media to keep EVERYONE in line ! Leaks ! ( but they also prosecute ex-CIA people for leaking !? Hypocrisy is not a problem when you have the media in your pocket ! ) Our radicals follow those Rules For Radicals’ ethics….which is NONE except ” winning ” and pushing that Lefty agenda !

I think 2013 will be the year that people get smart and organize for any number of bad outcomes due to the policies of Obama’s Marxist administration and our idiot Reps in Congress. My suggestions… Join or start a local Militia. Do NOT allow our government to take away ANY of our 2nd Amendment rights, by any means necessary. Buy lot’s of ammo or better yet learn to make your own and buy a lot of the supplies you will need to do it with. Learn to Barter more. And finally… make this the year that you swear to leave the USA better for your offspring than what we were given by our parents. It is after-all an unwritten American rule and always has been, so it has become our patriotic duty!
However it will take a lot of people doing some extraordinary things in 2013 so we can start to take back the Country we all dearly love.
Also… We need a dynamic Leader to emerge before we can become a real movement (it’s just the way it is so don’t ask me why. It just is). Please know that some of us are NOT waiting for a Leader to magically appear. Instead we are presently actively looking for that leader. Pray for us.
