Sen. Rand Paul’s Teen Son Arrested at NC Airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheBlaze/AP) — On Friday, Sen. Rand Paul indicated that he’s thinking about running for the U.S. presidency. But this news was eclipsed just one day later when police announced that his son was arrested after a flight from Kentucky to North Carolina.
The Charlotte Observer reports that 19-year-old William Hilton Paul was detained Saturday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and charged with alcohol-related offenses.
The newspaper quotes Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Lt. Blake Hollar as saying it’s possible Paul was served alcohol on the flight from Lexington, Ky., to Charlotte.
When the plane landed shortly before 11 a.m., the son of the Republican senator from Kentucky and grandson of former presidential candidate Ron Paul was charged with consuming beer/wine underage, disorderly conduct and being intoxicated and disruptive.
In a brief statement, Sen. Paul’s office said “as many parents with teenagers would understand,” the family requested their privacy be respected “in a situation such as this.”

Posted on January 7, 2013 at 8:55amThe point being the person serving him is guilty of serving alcohol to a minor, and it could be a federal offense as it was done in the air on a common carrier regulated by federal law.
And if I was the Senator I would make sure they would never serve an other minor again. The airline is responsable!

It is almost as if there are people on the left who believe “anyone against us will pay”. If this were a democrats kid instead of Rand Pauls son the headline would read “Airline grounded pending investigation into serving alcohol to minors”. The guy is 19. In the eyes of the law he is a full grown man so leave his dad out of this and let him deal with his own decisions

Posted on January 7, 2013 at 10:29amThe drinking age restriction of 21 is unconstitutional. A person is legally a fully citizen at 18. Changing the drinking age to 21 didn’t do anything, except create a culture willing to break the law. DUI haven’t gone down, alcohol related incidents haven’t declined and a 21 year old isn’t anymore mature or level headed than a 21 year old. The fact that AMericans allow these stupid laws to stand is why we are facing a total dismantling of out freedoms now. Give them an inch and they take a mile.

I knew a old man who owned a three two bar with a liquor store next to it.. in the sixties he got himself into a pickle for selling liquor to underage males who were on leave from the Vietnam war.. he said..”If they are old enough to fight for freedom, then they should be old enoulgh to buy liquor”! He still had to pay a fine and had tro promise to never sale liqour to minors again! Why wasn’t this hostess charged!

Posted on January 7, 2013 at 3:19pmPrecisely right, WARMUNGER_AL. Citizens of the United States have rolled over far too often when it comes to accepting ridiculous laws and restrictions. Someone is mature enough to sign their life over to military combat at age 18 and is mature enough to vote at age 18, but God forbid we trust someone with a beverage before the age of 21. Ridiculous.
We treat alcohol like it’s REALLY special. We make it taboo, we contribute to its “cool” factor by forbidding it. When many kids get old enough to have the opportunity to get their hands on it, they go wild with it. And then we wonder why we have so many alcohol-related problems. It’s insanity.
Of course this is young Paul’s fault for drinking and the airline’s fault for serving. But in a sane world, the only story here would be that a 19 year old became disruptive on a flight. (And I’d really like to hear the actual details on what was considered disruptive.)
