Considering that Monday night’s college national championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame was dominated by Alabama, there weren’t many competitive highlights (‘Bama won 42-14). So easily the talk of the night has become the way ESPN announcers Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit fawned over the stunning girlfriend of Alabama’s quarterback AJ McCarron.
See, McCarron is dating current Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb:

As you can imagine, Webb was a spectator at the game and the cameras regularly found her in the crowd. And upon doing so the first time, Musburger and Herbstreit couldn’t contain themselves.
“You quarterbacks, you get all the good-looking women,” Musburger said, directing the comment at Herbstreit who is a former quarterback himself. “What a beautiful woman.”
“Wow! AJ’s doing some things right–” Herbstreit responded.
“Whoa,” Musburger interrupted, nearly breathless. “If you’re a youngster in Alabama, start gettin’ the football out and throw it around the backyard with pop.”
Webb felt the effects of that praise. As she told Yahoo! Sports, her Twitter page went crazy after the Musburger comments.
“My phone is dead,” she explained, a result of the constant messages because of the attention. “My followers went from 2,300 this morning to 96,000 by the end of the night. I don’t know if I should even check now, I don’t know what is going on.”
“I guess [Musburger] said something but I don’t know what it was because I haven’t seen it.”
She would later garner over 100,000 followers. She has over 116,000 as of this writing.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 8:51pmWhen I was in high school, our quarterback got the pretty girl pregnant and in 1962 that was not a good thing. They got married but one of them had to transfer to another school and it was not the QB that had to go.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 8:30pmShe is a gorgeous woman and should be flattered by his effusive praise.
Rush pointed out something that I missed. Just a few days ago, a liberal comedian performed a mock sexual act on a CNN anchor on live TV, and nobody made much of it. However, when this sports announcer merely pointed out how beautiful this woman is, he was pilloried by liberals.
DOUBLE ****** STANDARD, MUCH?!

Jan. 8, 2013 at 8:30pmCracks me up every time. Only in America could someone point out the obvious, and receive condemnation from folks for doing so. This young woman is an outstanding example of American pulchritude, and I am willing to bet that she is also a good person, and good company as well.
On a side note, I am glad she doesn’t dress out at 290 lbs, otherwise the sportscasters would be facing a lawsuit, and worse, there would be no end to the caterwauling from offended weight “sensitive” folks on this issue.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 8:30pmI can’t believe people are making a big deal over this. It is ok for Kathy Griffith to do a simulated Lewinsky on Anderson Cooper but Musburger can’t make some harmless comments about a hot babe. Something here is out of whack.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 6:12pmWhats wrong with society? She’s very pretty, her boyrfriends cute too, can’t someone say something about how attractive a woman or guy is anymore? sheesh. Let it go. It’s one man’s personal opinion, and it’s not negative, it’s all good!

Jan. 8, 2013 at 5:09pmWhat I don’t understand is what is the big deal? So the guy comments that the girl is really pretty. And he is getting heat for it? And nothing is said about that skank Kathy Gifford pretending to give oral sex to Keith Olberman during their New Year’s Eve show.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 4:14pmI just think it is weird that a married man made comments like that. He also told young boys to practice throwing so they could get a cute girl. What do young girls do to get a QB like that, start competing on Toddlers and Tiara’s?

Jan. 8, 2013 at 3:06pmEven I can see that she is a beautiful woman…and seems like she might be a nice one, too. As long as they don’t start picking out homely women and calling them woofers, I’m good with it.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:29pmShe’s not ugly, by any standard, but she’s not extraordinary either – I can go to our local mall here and see 3 dozen women who look just like her. All that aside, I think Rush brought up a good point today on his show: everyone in the media is up in arms about Musberger’s comments, calling them inappropriate, but everyone in the media just laughed about how Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper “behaved” during the CNN New Year’s Eve show. In what world is a guy pointing out a pretty girl outrageous, but a **** like Griffin simulating oral on a news anchor is “edgy” and hilarious?

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:27pmI agree she is very attractive. I also agree with a previous post in the comments that unfortunately a lot men and women are attracted to the status or wealth of someone not what they stand for. I have met women that are an 11 on a scale of 1-10 until she opened her mouth then she became a 0. This is were the problem is with society today. What does this person have to offer me is more important when seeking a potential spouse because most people in general no longer look at the morals or what they stand in a person they pay more attention to big fat paychecks or how much power they have not if they have a heart of gold. I know more people who married for love and love only that are living in poverty but are still happy then people that are financially fairly well off that are miserable with their spouse and in most cases cheat. My brother and sister in-law are prime examples they have tons of money but there is no love between them. When one of them was caught red handed cheating they stayed together because “we treat our marriage like a business” and it wouldn’t make sense financially to split up.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:09pmI watched the game long enough to see this, and the kid sitting next to her was constantly sneaking a look at her. Sorry all, but she is good looking, so lets stop always finding fault. We do have to live in this world a little. Try and see some good in some things. We know the media and the liberals will tell you the sky is pink, but we all know the sky is generally blue. Let’s try and enjoy it. :-)

Jan. 8, 2013 at 11:52amhonestly, it isn’t that she isn’t pretty — she is… but i just didn’t understand the need to go on and on about it. my husband and i just kind of made confused faces at each other and just shrugged. finally my husband said, “let it go already”… kind of the same feeling/opinion i had. it wasn’t that she was shown or mentioned — it was the length it went on. there are lots of beautiful people in this world, but the people watching the game, weren’t watching it in hopes of getting a few lengthy shots of the QB’s girlfriend.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 11:38amKatherine Webb is a beautiful young lady. The reaction by Brent Musburger was a praiseworthy reaction.
Perhaps the article should also discuss the display of excellence by the Alabama team and its coach. All of the pregame hype for Notre Dame was rather rapidly dissipated. Notre Dame needs to review some of the fundamentals, like how to tackle.
