Gen. Who Resigned Amid Critical Comments of Obama Offers Thoughts on Gun Control: ‘Serious Action Is Necessary’

General (Ret.) Stanley McChrystal Dishes on Gun Control, Says it Requires Serious Action

Retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal (Getty)

Retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal during a Tuesday broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” said gun control in the U.S. requires “serious action.”

“I spent a career carrying typically either a M16, and later a M4 carbine,” he said.

“And a M4 carbine fires a .223 caliber round, which is 5.56 millimeters, at about 3,000 feet per second. When it hits a human body, the effects are devastating. It’s designed to do that. That’s what our soldiers ought to carry,” he added.

He continued:

I personally don’t think there’s any need for that kind of weaponry on the streets and particularly around the schools in America. I believe that we’ve got to take a serious look — I understand everybody’s desire to have whatever they want — but we have to protect our children and our police and we have to protect our population. And I think we have to take a very mature look at that.

The former Commander of U.S. and NATO Coalition Forces in Afghanistan is, of course, referring to the Newtown, Conn., shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children.

“I think serious action is necessary. Sometimes we talk about very limited actions on the edges, and I just don’t think that’s enough,” he said.

The “Morning Joe” hosts asked him if he has a message for the National Rifle Association and the House Judiciary Committee.

“I think we have to look at the situation in America,” he responded.

“The number of people killed by firearms is extraordinary compared to other nations. I don’t think we’re a bloodthirsty culture, and we need to look at everything we can do to safeguard our people,” he added.

McCrystal, you are a trader to your fellow citizens and your service our country has amounted to nothing. If you were still active duty you would deserve to be Court martialed.
This goofball is an example why the military is run no more efficiently than bureau of motor vehicles.
the military follows rules and when the president tells them to go house to house looking for guns, that will be the rule.

So many of you say NO ONE gets to set a limit – abridge – your right to keep and bear arms.
SO… I have an unlimited right to bear whatever ARMS I want – right?

Well I want a nuke then.
Who are you to tell me I can’t have one?

So every American has this right?
    Is this a God-given right?
If so… Then such is really a right to be given to any human – yes?
So who are we as a nation to tell any one in any other nation what arms they can or can’t have?
The 2nd Amendment right is what protects folks from tyranical govts.
So lets work on arming ALL peoples of the earth so that any tyranical govts can be kept in check.

Do any of you yet see where your absurd ‘no limits’ approach is taking us?

This POS is a prime example of the Staff Officers the Army now has. The 223 is a .22 cal. center-fire deemed to weak to use for deer hunting in many states. “To powerful for civilian what use” what a jerk I’m glad this guy was thrown out of the Army as a former Marine he makes me want to puke.

Right. I have 30.06 deer rifle with a shell 2.5 times the size of the 223 and they want to ban my AR! This is ABSURD! No wonder he was fired!

He thinks the 223 is damaging round? Compare that to a deer rifle shell and see what you think.

i used to think that McCrystal was on trac especially when he made the comments on obummer and was fired for them. However this is the kind of thinking that is down right communistic,or something right out of Orwells1984. This man is dangerous! To make the statement, that I as an American citizen should not have the right to the gun and caliber of my choice is insane. He taking milatary take over with ease in a nation that would not be able to protect itself against a tyrantical government and military.

Those harboring heroic notions of resisting gun confiscation by para-military police, national guard troops or the active duty military, better be committed to meeting deadly force with deadly force, and likely losing!

Delaying one’s commitment to support and defend the Constitution against government abuses, until forced to draw the line at defending the Second Amendment with your life, is a little late to the fight. That looming scenario is unnecessary and unwanted by everyone except Obama, his puppeteers and misinformed minions.

Obama is encouraging your elected employees to ignore Constitutional limits on their power. Their treason depends on misplaced military loyalty sufficient to attack Americans. Rather than invite a test of their loyalty, it is wiser to unite now and peacefully demand your elected servants and judges to comply with the Constitution.

Patriotic preemptive action must be quick, effective and united. Rally around the Tea Party to form a viable third party! Demand state and federal employees obey the Constitution! File lawsuits challenging their treason! Do this and much more now, well before “authorities” start confiscating guns on your street!

The Presidency has been surrendered to usurpation and vote fraud!* Fixing these problems will solve many others.

Uh, people aren’t killed by firearms, they’re killed by bullets.

Americans expend some six BILLION rounds each and every year.

Divide THAT number by the number of firearm related deaths and you’ll find the odds of “dying by bullet” in America are quite small.

We are an incredibly safe and moral society.

We don’t negotiate with terrorists, right?

Well, we don’t surrender our rights to psychopaths, either.

General, it is the Constitution of our Constitutional Republic, sir. Frankly, I do not care what your “opinion” is or what the “opinion” of 99% of voters is. The 2nd Amendment says I can have it, the 2nd Amendment says I can carry it and so discussion OVER> shut the hell up!

I like how he didn’t say it was designed to kill, which it isn’t.

Back in the day, when my grandfather was in the Army reserves, they where taught not to kill, but to wound. They had the powerful M1 in the .30-06 and the M1 Carbine.

Why where they taught to wound? Because a dead soldier takes one man out of a fight, a wounded soldier takes him out, and the guy trying to keep him alive, and a few others trying to keep the guy keeping the other guy alive form getting shot. Not to mention today the concept of bring in high level targets for interrogation.

I have no desire to get shot with a .223, or anything at all, but I’m much rather it be that then the stuff I got in my collection, my .44 Magnums, my M1. My odds are better, and I much prefer these nut jobs going whack with these so called assault rifles.(which Lanza didn’t, pistols.).

Just because it’s “Military” doesn’t mean it’s scary, and I can say what’s scary is having known some and of some soldiers, that some of them are allowed near guns is scary.(I have a whole heap of respect for the military, but that doesn’t mean I pretend they don’t allow idiots in either.)

Can anyone past the age of 6 not know that “We,” whoever that is, has failed to protect anything but the rights of criminals. All “We” can do is count bodies, count shell casings, take pictures, put up yellow crime scene tape, and compile crime statistics.

I am Randy Hunwardsen, and I live in California. I support the Constitution with every fiber of my being and recognize the Bill of Rights as rights we are born with, not because we are Americans but because we are human beings. I oppose our actions in the middle east, Obama care, gun control, the federal reserve… I believe corporations are not people. I believe the system is corrupt. I believe politicians are not above the law. I believe our president is out of control, as was the previous. The solution starts with your states, demand your states declare sovereignty. This does not mean secede!! It means stick to the Constitution: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people (the 10th amendment). Read the Constitution and stand up for it. Stop voting the same people in who would destroy it or sell you down the river for big bank or big business agenda. Demand change and be ready to fight for it. There has never been a time in our history since the Declaration of Independence where it has been more important to sever political ties, to stand up and shout, “I AM A HUMAN BEING, I AM FREE AND MY VOICE MATTERS!”. This is a republic, our government was designed to represent the majority while defending the minority from oppression. This is America, land of the free and home of the brave. Don’t tread on me.
