A Democratic legislator in Iowa is startling citizens with his most recent proposal: ban the sale of semi-automatic weapons, and confiscate them from existing gun owners if need be.
Here is an excerpt from Iowa’s Daily Times Herald, which conducted the interview with State Rep. Dan Muhlbauer:
In an interview, a fiery Muhlbauer said it is time to act with “radical changes” on gun laws and other issues to protect schoolchildren from shooting sprees like the one last week in Newtown, Conn.
“We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the semi-automatics and all of them,” Muhlbauer said. “We can’t have those running around out here. Those are not hunting weapons.”
He added, “We should ban those in Iowa.”
Muhlbauer, who did not list the specific weapons he wants outlawed in The Daily Times Herald interview, said he would like to see the ban implemented in a retroactive fashion.
“Even if you have them, I think we need to start taking them,” Muhlbauer said. “We can’t have those out there. Because if they’re out there they’re just going to get circulated around to the wrong people. Those guns should not be in the public’s hands. There are just too many guns.” [Emphasis added]
It should be noted that based on the interview, Muhlbauer’s knowledge of firearms appears to be limited. He conflates “semi-automatics” with “big guns,” even inserting a sweeping “and all of them” phrase at one point.
He also seems to think the Second Amendment was created to satisfy hunters, saying “those are not hunting weapons,” without any mention of protecting the individual’s sweeping right to “keep and bear arms.”

At one point in the interview, Muhlbauer suggests a voluntary “buy-back” program to get around the predicament of confiscating countless weapons, but it could only be considered “voluntary” for the willing participants. Those unwilling to sell back their guns would face “some sort of penalty,” he says.
But U.S. Rep. Steve King, a Republican from the same state, has been outspoken in his defense of the 2nd Amendment. King first and foremost states that gun rights are intended to protect the individual, but has previously said he owns a semi-automatic for coyotes that sometimes roam his land.
Muhlbauer weighed in, according to the Daily Times Herald, to say that a semi-automatic is “a little ridiculous” for coyotes, and that King doesn’t need such a “big gun.”
“Actually, we have a lot of people that go after them, and they trap ‘em,” he suggested.
In the loaded interview, Muhlbauer also said that “maybe it’s time we start pulling [away]” video games from children, but when pressed on how the government would limit children’s entertainment, conceded that parents should just be paying more attention.
According to the Daily Times Herald, Muhlbauer owns three guns: a .410 shotgun, a .22 rifle, and a .22 pistol.
As for confiscating weapons, local Republican Mayor Ken Behrens expressed concern about how citizens would react.
“I would hate to see a law where it would be mandated that somebody start taking guns,” he stated. “I don’t think that would go over well.”

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:18pmThis guy is moving the Overton Window to the left so that “a compromise” can be made. No compromise unless it means I have easier access to Class III weapon systems.
He said the following and he is right:
…
We cannot have big guns out here as far as the big guns that are out here, the semi-automatics and all of them,” Muhlbauer said.
…
Their Fascist Commune will never succeed with these big guns in the hands of free men so they do in fact NEED to take them to succeed. Just as we free men NEED to cling to them to defeat their attempt at Communist revolution.
In related news, FPS Russia’s business manager was assassinated. The anti-gun crowd is seriously raising the stakes:

“Prior to the sword hunt called by Oda Nobunaga towards the end of the 16th century, civilians were free to carry swords for defense or simply for decoration. Nobunaga sought an end to this, and ordered the seizure of swords and a variety of other weapons fro’m civilians, in particular the Ikkō-ikki peasant-monk leagues which sought to overthrow samurai rule.”

I’ve open carried all over Iowa and got nothing but compliments and agreement by the locals. Iowa is a great place. Kind of flat and corn infested, but good decent people. I suspect this trash receptacle they elected came from a city there. That’s where the evil always seems to start, in the cities.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:56pmWell since his knowledge is limited on firearms. I would love to let him know that the AR-15″s which I am sure he considers the “big guns” fire a round not much larger in diameter than the two 22′s he owns. They just have more powder behind them. I would bet that the 22 rifle he owns is a semi automatic, and probably a Ruger 10/22 since they seem to be the most popular. Would he give his up? These people are the scary ones not those of us who adhere to the freedom of the constitution.

an example the martial art of Capoeira originated among the slaves in Brasil to hide from the fact from taskmasters that they were settling scores.
Tai chi was martial arts practised in WW2 under the noses of the Japanese who had forbidden such practice. The martial arts moves were merely slowed down & called physical therapy.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:01pmAlright, listen up Mulbaur and all of you big government, nanny-state goons. The Founders that insisted on a Bill of Rights before ratifying the Constitution did so because they knew you people were coming. Even though their contemporaries assured them that no one would ever try to take away any of the Natural Rights of Man, that was not good enough. They wanted it in writing. Since the language seems to be too confusing for the modern government educated public, I will break down the first four of the supplemental restrictions on your powers.
Rule #1:
A. You cannot choose or invent any government sponsored religion.
B. I will practice religion in any way I see fit.
C. I can say anything I want to and that includes the printed word.
D. I am free to meet with others of like mind and to complain if I don’t like what you’re doing.
Rule #2: I have the right to own weapons and carry them with me.
Rule #3: You cannot put up your soldiers in my house without my permission.
Rule#4: You will not search my person, house or any of my effects without a detailed and signed warrant.
I hope that makes things more clear and if anyone has a problem with any of these rules , please refer to Rule #2.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:05pmHideyoshi aimed at disarming potential adversaries, and he launched what was known as the great “sword hunt.” Also, in order to discourage uprisings, he wanted a distinct line between various social classes. Peasants, he proclaimed, were “strictly forbidden to have in their possession any swords, short swords, bows, spears, firearms or other types of weapons.” He followed this with a promise to melt down the weapons collected for building a great statue of the Buddha.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:30pmI’m just shocked that TheBlaze hasn’t run an article on FPSRussia yet. They have on several occasions featured FPSRussia weapon demonstration videos. The man that found all of those hard to find weapons has been murdered execution style. He was possibly the most important man behind FPSRussia, a giant advocate of gun rights, and was executed in his home.
For those who don’t know FPSRussia:
FPSRussia formerly known as “FPS Kyle” is a popular YouTube channel, and a personality of Kyle Lamar Myers (born May 9, 1986) an American YouTube user. He is notable for his portrayal of the Russian character “Dmitri Potapoff”, on his YouTube channel FPSRussia. Myers was born and raised in Hart County, Georgia. On October 29, 2012, Myers had a cameo appearance as his character, Dmitri, in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II live action trailer directed by Guy Ritchie.[1]

If they try to take the guns, it will be through means such as, “No one can be hired if they own a gun. Your bank account will be locked until the ‘authorities’ receive all firearms registered to you. You will be denied healthcare until you cooperate, etc.” They think that once you start feeling the pinch, the guns won’t mean as much to you. What that will do, though, is increase desperation. It will force peoples’ hands, and it will be the catalyst of civil war.

The only thing left after semi autos, in terms of firepower, are bolt actions, lever actions, breech loaders, and flintlocks.
These are RELICS. They havent been used since the 1850s or WW1. They can’t be used to defend yourself properly when your attacker has semi automatic or automatic weapons.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 9:10pmRead about the Overton Window, but also read the book “Unintended Consequences”. For starters, anyone purchasing ammo or guns in the USA establishes a paper-trail, which you may be certain is on the big government computer someplace. That means that the only way to purchase a gun or ammo is to buy them “off the books”. In other words, hunt for advertisements and pay in cash; meet the seller at a neutral location and disclose no information about yourself, including parking a couple blocks away and taking appropriate counter-surveillance measures on the way to the meeting place. Having a couple of trusted friends of like mind to be with you as members of the Counter-surveillance team would be a good idea too. Not a perfect solution, but one which will work in most cases. Always have guns and ammo which have been purchased “on the book” so that you can happily hand them over when the knock on the door comes at 3AM. The others should be safely stored elsewhere in a place known only to you and you only; you would likely have your BugOut bags at that location also. None of this advice is revolutionary or in anyway “anti-American”; it is a Best Practice for existing in a Police State. Study books which discuss survivalism, hiding in plain sight and Ahern’s Survivalist series (the first 10 anyway, after that it becomes SciFi). Pray that none of this comes to pass for then it will be the Day of the Rope and TSHTF big-time. If that does happen, our USA is Doomed.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:18pmWell, Muhlbauer, you look like a strapping young individual, so perhaps for you a simple .22 single shot rifle and single shot pistol and low power .410 are all the guns you want.
As for me, I’m not even interested in what guns you own- it’s meaningless to even try telling me how fair you are as a ‘gun owner’ in stripping my rights from me. You do with your money and rights what you want, and leave me the hell alone to spend my money however I want and don’t presume to remove my rights. I’m not interested in hunting animals- they’ve done nothing to harm my rights as an individual, so your ‘don’t need for hunting’ is immaterial to me.
That said, and I really don’t want to say this, but it’s how I feel about it, here is my proposal to you.
Why don’t you bring your strapping young self to my door and try taking my guns from me? I may be 66 years old, but I’m sure I can still show you one of the reasons I want guns. Any gun I want. And be sure to bring your .22′s, since I may want to add to my collection.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 1:09pmThank you!
Here’s my letter I emailed to him…
Representative Muhlbauer,
My intent is to be respectful in my correspondence.
Unfortunately, you do not show any love, respect, or even knowledge of our Declaration of Independence or Constitution. It is certainly possible that you have a real concern for the safety of school children. However, you have no record of pushing or supporting safety systems in schools. This would indicate that your current stance is either reactionary or part of a larger political agenda.
I believe you have not studied history sufficiently in order to see the effects of extremist gun legislation and confiscation. Over 300 million people have been murdered world-wide as a direct consequence of gun confiscation. Please reference George III, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, and Guevera’s regimes. Progressives and Communists might win in the end, but it will not come without bloodshed on both sides.
I have hope that by being respectful you will reconsider your stance and possibly retract your statements. It is a lot to ask of any person to question their own convictions. Nevertheless, I would enthusiastically implore you to do so.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 11:29pmSince historically most people who use guns to commit crimes have been registered Democrats, perhaps the best way to reduce violent crime in this country would be to simply require that any registered Democrat wishing to purchase a firearm be subjected to a 3-5 day in patient mental health, physical, and psychological testing as well as a full background check back to the womb. Any single incident of violent actions, to include throwing toys as a toddler, should be immediate grounds for removal of their rights to own firearms for a period not to exceed 5 years at which time they can reapply and go through the entire process (AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE OF COURSE) from the beginning.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:32pmI have to believe that these legislators will learn something if any of these proposed rules truly go through… Many cops have a strong respect for 2nd amendment and will be loathe to enforce a law they view as unconstitutional. In the big cities they can’t enforce the gun laws in place as it is. The last thing they want to do is have to start confiscating firearms from law abiding citizens.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:12pmWhile the Newtown, CT shootings were truly a tragedy to the most extreme, it is truly sad that Democrats instantly and overly react to the killing of young school age children and demand “gun controls”, yet they turn their heads and even fund abortions of the multitudes of young children. It takes a warped mind to rationalize that.

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:25pmThere fight has nothing to do with the deaths in Newtown, CT. They don’t give a rats patooty about those children. This is a means to an end. This is their way to remove guns from law abiding citizens, who they know will rise up and take them out if they tried to invoke their government on the American people. All your Communist dictators removed the guns, so they had control over the people. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Chavez, and Castro all removed guns from the people. The people pushing gun control are Communist and members of the Socialist Party of America.

Additionally, I have notified the FBI regarding this moron in Iowa (I know, that accomplished zero). Thirdly, I am not going to take this Marxist bowel movement matter. I’m just not. I didn’t go through all the elite military training and indoctrination for giggles. We are, as stated in ealier posts, quickly approaching the line of departure. Our mission is massive. However, we must concurrently dismantle the Federal Reserve ASAP. There’s your monster. There’s your beast. The New World Order families/bankers must be de-flowered, and we must create a new currency not based upon public debt. If you no longer see my posts, you’ll know why. Further, just to let “you” know, I’m packin’ and I’m expecting you. As an aside, how I do despise hypocrites like Biden, Feinstein (I don’t give a damn about the spelling of that monster’s name), Pelosi, Boehner, et cetera. While I haven’t been a regular poster on the blaze, I have been lurking and have learned a lot from people like you and others. (with the exception of send duh peters and eciniom?) My question to you is: How are we to get/become organized before it’s to late? I mean, we can talk and b*tch about what they are trying to do, but how are we to stop them when they come to our doors? It seems to me that WE need to start having meetings in our community, like the tea party did and start getting organized or it will be to late. I don’t mind dying for my 2nd Amendment, but if I die in the front door of my home protecting MY RIGHTS it will only be in vain because I will just be labeled a “gun nut” like the left so boldly label us all. I have tried to imagine how all this may go down, but I cannot see US winning without joining together as one nation under God and becoming organized. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions?? TIA.

“There are those in America today who have come to depend absolutely on government for their security. And when government fails they seek to rectify that failure in the form of granting government more power. So, as government has failed to control crime and violence with the means given it by the Constitution, they seek to give it more power at the expense of the Constitution. But in doing so, in their willingness to give up their arms in the name of safety, they are really giving up their protection from what has always been the chief source of despotism — government

Jan. 8, 2013 at 12:17pmI agree his opinion SHOULD be irrelevant…. BUT he is at least presently an elected official of the state of Iowa… his emotion could contribute to unconstitutional laws, which would not be struck down for 1 to 3 years (assuming no SCOTUS members ‘take ill’ and are replaced by more Left leaning Justices).
I pray that logic and reason will hold sway, and recognize that the MSM is only showing us bits about people who support their position (for the rest of us… THEY get to have armed guards) or that paint firearms negatively, but look at how effective our conservative leaders have been to date in holding back Omaba’s goals…
The PEOPLE need to remember our natural/ God given right to be armed is NOT to be infringed by the government, by Constitutional Amendment. IOWANS need to understand that this man seeks to subvert the Constitution and make them serfs. And he needs to be put out on his keester in the next election (in truth, his own party should be saying ‘uhm, no, too radical’ but that won’t happen)

We cannot count on politicians to help us any longer. The GOP will fail, as they always do, and the Demons will do as they wish with laws. Our duty now is to tell them, clearly, “No, I will not comply” and then stand behind our words, and with each other, and defend our rights as is required by *their* reactions.
He can scream to the hills for all I care. He can get every member of the House and Senate to vote for his idiocy. I will not comply, and I will openly defy the law if that happens.
It’s really that simple. The time for debate is over. It’s time stand firm and tell them “No” in terms that leave no room for compromise.
