Posted with the caption “left in lieu of a tip,” author Michael Kindt put the following photo on his Tumblr wall:
“As a direct result of Proposition 30,” the card reads, referring to California’s latest sales and income tax increase, “and President Obama’s insistence that I pay ‘MY FAIR SHARE IN TAXES,’ I find that I must cut back on discretionary spending and gratuities.”
“I wish it didn’t have to be this way for both of us,” the card concludes.
Kindt was unimpressed with the card: “Gotta love those Republicans, huh?”
Two points should be made.
First, because it’s unclear when and where the photo was taken, there’s no guaranteeing it’s not a hoax.
Second, if it is indeed a hoax, this wouldn’t be the first time that someone tried to gin up anti-conservative sentiment with a cock-and-bull story about a lousy tip.
In February of 2012, a blogger fabricated a story about a “banker” going into a True Food Kitchen, running up a three-figure tab, leaving a one percent tip, and then writing “GET A REAL JOB” on the receipt.
It was all fake and there was nothing to the story.
Therefore, until there’s confirmation on the “sorry I can’t tip” card, it’s best to remain skeptical. But if the story turns out to be authentic, it should raise eyebrows.
Kindt did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Final Thought: Real or not, there are two ways to look at this card. It could be argued that until people at all levels — even waitstaff — realize how government policies affect them, they won’t think twice about what’s going on in Washington.
It could also be argued, however, that the money it took to print the card could have been used to tip the restaurant worker — or the person could have left both.

Obama is dismantling the private sector and that is why college kids will be waiting table into their 40′s if they are fortunate enough to be a waiter/waitress in Obamanation. The remnants of Obama’s “kill the private sector” through taxation and regulation will be felt long after he moves into his Illinois estate/Hawaiian/ or Kenyan estate. Kids have destroyed their own financial future with the touch of a ballot screen in 2008 and 2012. That is why they jobs are so hard to find. And most are too stupid or lazy to apprentice a trade where many jobs go unfilled because young people would rather be twittering and facebooking.

I’m not going to delineate the (American) liberal economic view, because quite frankly I don’t CARE–I’m NOT a liberal, I’m a RADICAL. There’s a difference. In America, being actually LEFTIST (something most Americans wouldn’t know if they were slapped in the face with it, which isn’t really their fault because it’s not as if our political system wasn’t expressly DESIGNED to preserve the status quo) makes one a Radical.
MY view of the matter, and the Radical view, is that there are problems that emerge from not JUST the choices of individuals within society, but also from the CONTEXT that the structure of social, economic, and political incentives creates. It’s not enough, as conservatives do, to merely prescribe remedies that ignore a priori effects of the WAY in which our economic system is structured, or our political system is structured, or social hierarchies are structured. Do you think these things, products of OUR design and choices over time, are inherently perfect and don’t need improvement? Do you think capitalism is the ONLY socioeconomic system that has ever existed in history? Because you would be mistaken.
Among many other problems created by the status quo arrangment of these structures that Radicals, such as myself, advocate examining and changing, the principle one we share in common is a rejection of the system of parasitic private titular absentee ownership of capital goods (i.e. quintessentially capitalism).

Jan. 9, 2013 at 12:40pm(1) Conservative hyperbole and delusional paranoia notwithstanding, there AREN’T “keepers” or whatever nonsense you want to call them, of “Radicals” or “Leftism” in America, because Americans are kept in complete ignorance of all but the most modest liberalism that passes for the “hard Left” of this country. There are probably a lot of REASONS for this–our anomalously religious culture (anomalous with respect to other industrialized liberal democracies), massive geographic size and population under a single political structure, the explicit DESIGN of our political system to make it difficult, nigh impossible, to achieve anything substantive, among other possible factors. But the fact remains that our “political center” is shifted far to the Right of the average of similarly situated countries (i.e. liberal democracies, and even more of an outlier if you narrow consideration to industrialized and/or “western,” culturally speaking, liberal democracies).
(2) ““RADICAL” euphemism for success by the way”…where did that happen? I used Radical in the original and truest sense of the word–an advocate for substantive structural change.

Jan. 9, 2013 at 12:44pmLet me show you why you’re an idiot ARCHIE….
You said the political system wasn’t designed to preserve the status quo? In fact the American constitution is specifically designed to preserve the status quo, that in itself is by it’s very nature a conservative virtue.
Some other nations revise their constitutions every decade or so…leaving the status quo to the whim of whoever is legislating at the time. But the American Constitution is immovable and with the exclusion of the amendment process, unchangable. It indeed preserves the status quo.
It’s lefties like you (don’t insult my intelligence with your “I’m a radical” idiocies..you’re a lefty through and through) that want the constitution torn up so you can impose your “RADICAL” (your emphasis) on society. The constitution the only real obstacle in your way and why is that again? Because it preserves the status quo. This is why the latest drum beat from the left has been to devalue and disparage the constitution. Liberal Supreme court judges telling young nations not to look to the American Constitutoin as a model for their own. Obama bemoaning the constraints congress puts on him (read: the constraints the constitution puts on him). The constant repetition from the left that the constitution is out-dated and ill-fitted for “modern” society.
You idiot, the constitution is what is preserving the status quo and the left wants to get it out of their way.

Jan. 10, 2013 at 1:59ami’m sry archie, but the man is right. You other guys can’t seriously act like a conservative is a liberal and just simply get away with it either. A conservative is a traditionalist, so you can write off progressiveness immediately. furthermore the constitution would have stayed perfect if we just added rights and took VERY few serious ones away, but that’s the progressive liberal agenda. The government’s only role is to protect our freedom’s and enforce the law of the land, so why does it regulate everything? Because they think they know better than we do, because you buy into their crap when WE actually understand the agenda. Yes there are MANY different governmental systems, it’s funny how you think the founders were so stupid that they didn’t try other systems. THEY DID and guess what? They eventually found that the more free a people is, the less the government is involved in business, the more the people prospered and found reason to believe in government. It is the best system, because it doesn’t limit a person based on what the gov’t will let them do or simply do for them. The only limit is what the people put on themselves. Everyone must learn on their own what works and what doesn’t, no one is going to tell them how or what besides school. Can you imagine how much more time the gov’t would have to actually keep us safe, ALL OF US? like even our children, that they obviously don’t care about. Yes, because conservatives DON’T have a myopic focus on individual level causal explanations of economic phenomena alone, and they CERTAINLY don’t propound a backwards theory of stimulating aggregate demand by giving transfer payments to those with the LOWEST (rather than highest) marginal propensity to spend. Nope, that’s DEFINITELY not accurate. And no CONSERVATIVE would display disdain for the working class–that’s NEVER happened. LOL–you’re a riot, keep up the good work!

Jan. 9, 2013 at 1:28pmForgot to add that Karma is the creation of people who feel they are powerless. If you grew up and saw the world s it is you’d ask yourself, “If Karma is real then why do so many with wealth and influence hurt so many and never have to suffer the consequences?” Life isn’t fair. The day you accept that may be the day you figure out you have to become a bit more self-reliant and stop bitching about what others are getting away with wrong real or imagined. It’s laughable that people like you feel some unseen force out there will exact vengeance on your behalf.

So…you RECOGNIZE that diminishing aggregate demand is crippling the economy, yet you SUPPORT the wealth-centralizing economic policies and socioeconomic structures that CAUSE this diminishing effect? That’s called a CONTRADICTION–you can’t have them both. EITHER wealth will be highly concentrated and aggregate demand diminished as a consequence of lower marginal propensity to spend in those ABLE to spend OR wealth will be more decentralized and aggregate demand sustained by higher marginal propensity spend among those WITHOUT the ability to do so under the status quo regime of centralized, and increasingly centralized, wealth.
The Right is filled such arbitrary hypocrites–they’re PLENTY happy to bang the drum of individual freedom and empowerment, and decentralization of power when it comes to PUBLIC power, but when the EXACT same tyranny is PRIVATIZED (i.e. when it comes to turning the government into FEUDALISM) their parade of complaint is nowhere to be found.

Jan. 9, 2013 at 4:16pm@ Water-The-Tree….Because my parents owned several restaurants and I was raised in the business I can attest to the fact that servers DO get a paycheck. Jan. 9, 2013 at 11:24amThis is absolutely the result of government intervention and it is absolutely intentional.
Who gives the least? Leftists, because they feel that by “paying their fair share”, that absolves them of any further need to be charitable in any regard. It’s nice and clean for them and they can wipe their conscience clean – just like when they pass more gun laws.
It’s sad that leftists want to the government to take over the reigns of charity, because “we” know that won’t work and “they” don’t really care. At the end of the day, they can point to the laws they pass and feign compassion – while those in need get the shaft.
I hate to sound brutal, but this is what it is going to take to get people outta their stupors. Charities at all levels are going to necessarily have to take a hit or the current mindset is not going to change. And, if enough people are adversely affected, things will change.

Jan. 9, 2013 at 2:26pmI intend to print up about 500 of these cards on my home computer and start using them. We know a majority of young people voted for Obama and that they work in food service. They should have to suffer the consequences of their choices. This is a no brainer for me. Also, I was a cruel mother when my children were growing up. They lost privileges. They did not get to sit in a corner for 2 minutes and then get nuggets, fries, dessert and video games. They were disciplined children. They ate their vegetables or didn’t get another meal. These young food service and wait staff people need a wake up call and hitting them in their pocket books is a good course of action. Cause they come into my store and buy 99 cent slurpees with their MasterCard and think nothing of charging tons of crap on their credit cards. Then there is Mommy and Daddy who have never let them feel a consequence in their lives. Make it hurt. It should hurt. They deserve it to hurt. Then they will think again about their choices.

When they complain just ask them, “did you vote for Obama?” and when they say, “Yes” then tell them, “You voted yourself out of tips and probably a job.” They won’t like it but they need to hear it. The vast majority of millionaires that I have had the pleasure of meeting all ate very cheaply, fancy dinners only once in a blue moon. Cause Obama, the Democrats, and Mommy and Daddy’s credit card never allowed them to grow up and be adults and work for their own life. Infants.
