Concealed Carry Holder Teaches Armed Robber Why It’s a Bad Idea to Pull a Gun on a Dad

Columbus Dad Kelby Smith Shoots Armed Robber After He Pulls Gun on Him and His 2 Month Old Son

(FILE)

A father in Columbus, Ohio was forced to defend himself and his 2-month-old son when a man pulled a gun and attempted to rob him on Monday night. Luckily, Kelby Smith, 34, owns a permit to carry a concealed handgun and was able to shoot the robber.

Smith told police that he was sitting in his brother’s driveway just before 9 p.m. when the armed robber approached him. The man held a gun to the father’s head while his 2-month-old son sat in a car carrier. Instinctively, the dad shielded the child from the robber’s gun.

Smith handed over all the money he had and the robber and took off on foot, but then reportedly pointed the gun back at the father and his baby, according WBNS-TV.

Smith then pulled out his legal handgun, for which he has a concealed carry permit, and fired at the suspect. While the robber still got away, a man fitting the description of the suspect arrived at Mount Carmel West Hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after the incident.

WBNS-TV has more:

Police later confirmed that Smith’s concealed weapons permit was valid and determined he used his firearm in self-defense. The man in the hospital will face charges if police determine he is the robbery suspect.

Smith and his child were not injured in the robbery.

It’s a bad idea to try and disarm them via EO also.

I’m really enjoying theblaze recently with all the gun stories. Let me translate this story from theblaze pandering to gun nuts to what actually happened. He shot him while the robber ran away. Awfully convenient the robber “turned and pointed his gun while running away” Makes for a nice excuse to justify to the police. I’m one of those liberal progressive moron types you guys are always talking about on here. And let me be a bigger man than any of you will ever be and admit, that for this issue, I’m on your side. I don’t think we can regulate our way out of our mass shooting problem. I also don’t think it’s a good idea that everyone be armed. The number of “shooting over _____ (insert some lame excuse here eg. parking space, cutting in line)” would skyrocket. With all that said all this talk of they’re going to take away your guns is crazy and it doesn’t help your side.

best to know where the wound was before speculating on series of events. if wound is on the front or side of the perp, no question – he was facing the victim, not running away. if shot in the back still open to question. robbed, fled, turned to look back – which victim saw as threat & shot as the perp decided to continue to flee.
appreciate/respect your bending to admit that you agree with some here although not on most. i, in turn, agree with some of the left leaning comments on one issue…… rambo comments do no good. doesn’t matter to me, but there are those who would point to a hint of blood lust in those juvenile minds.
however, the consitution is perfectly clear on most matters and especially the 2nd – i swore to protect & defend and that oath will only die when i do

Does everyone on here have their CWP or open carry lic? I do. Has it occured to you that given how the news papers have printed names and address of the lic holders, that the Obama admin has already gotten said list from every state? They may not have to get us to register the guns to find out where they are? At least the people serious about the 2nd amend. Could they use the info to make a sweep of a few thousand to set an example?

I don’t know if they could or not. Darn, I’m sure glad I don’t have to worry about it though, seeing as how all my guns and ammunition were stolen yesterday. I was just getting ready to report it. :) lol Kidding. It is a pretty scary thought. It’s crazy. It’s politics I guess. I’m fighting until the end though. I’ve already had to use my gun against an intruder with a knife, that was breaking into my home, right next to my 8 mo pregnant daughter in law. Where I live, if I hadn’t had my gun, we’d both be dead. I can’t believe they are trying to take away our only means of self-defense. One thing I’m noticing on these forums, is all the conversation that backs up them saying we’re all crazy, trigger happy, murderers. No matter how pissed we get, we shouldn’t stoop to their level, and we should act like the responsible gun owners we’re telling them we are. Just my take on the matter. Tks

Shoot to kill….always. I actually saw a court case where a man was robbed and he got to pull his weapon and shoot the robber in the thigh before the robber could shoot him. The robber was in terrible pain and dropped his gun. Police arrived….made a report and told the victim…’good shot…you were lucky’. At his grand jury trial (which finally agreed the guy shot in self-defense) the robber’s lawyer actually said that the victim must not have felt in danger because he shot his client in the leg instead of killing him. Therefore…..the shooting was not justified. What nerve. The victim won anyway but I have never forgotten that statement. Shoot to kill.

RobbieTLHughie, unfortunately our legal system has taught us that if we don’t kill them they can sue us or worse yet, get off and kill someone else in the next crime. If someone is willing to shoot you. Don’t miss. Take them out.

    @Cavallo
I agree totally. I am not going to stop firing until I know the bad guy is stopped. I wasn’t implying to shoot to wound, like I said first two center mass (hopefully through to the spine) but to state that you are trying to intentionally kill another human being is murder.

How Stupid are our Government reps-to think that guns are to blame-lets ban spoon for creating obese people which kills more people.
The real problem are the liberals who don’t enforce rules and identification of nut jobs and releases criminals before time due to over crowding.
Also, the innocent people with concealed weapons have a legal status and gone through background checks etc. The criminal can always get a gun black market to commit a crime.
it’s a shame of what happened in recent rampage killing but no more so then September 11th WTC
plane disaster ban planes- no ban Muslims etc etc.WAKE-UP

Ever wonder why the proof of the puddin’ in stories like this one and like this attempted school shooting …. http://redpillreport.net/2013/01/06/school-shooting-in-tennessee-that-national-media-did-not-report/ …. are never highly published and made visible before the public. It’s my opinion that it’s because it does significant damage to the gun control advocates propaganda, lies and ultimate agenda to seize the weapons and disarm the innocent, law abiding American citizens in this country. America, our beloved United States and our freedom handed down to us by our forefathers is under attack by communistic and socialistic enemies from within our own borders. They’re disguised as and try to speak like America loving citizens. But, their open attacks on our liberties by use of our own laws that are meant to protect us blows away their smoke and exposes them for who and what they really are, Republican and Democrats traitors alike.

This is the kind of information you will never hear from the lame stream media. It is also factual proof that the gun grabbers don’t know what they are talking about but they will never be swayed by facts and the truth. It is about gun control for them not safety.

I am a legal concealed weapons carrier.
I pray I never have to use my gun – But if I do I have confidence that I will use the proper judgement .
American need to start to stand up for their constitutional rights. There are enough laws on the books – they need to be enforced. Why is it al the ghetto cities have the highest murder rates?
Fix the REAL problem and leave me alone – or else you will have a big problem.

Wait here while I call 9-1-1. LMFAO. People who use a gun in a crime should be met with deadly force…no legal system red tape.

So what if Smith didn’t have a CCP – would that have negated his Right to self-defense?!? Since when is our Right to self-defense predicated on obtaining permission from an elected official or an official acting on his behalf, to okay it?!?

Phuket U has no instructors in that nonsense.

“Police later confirmed that Smith’s concealed weapons permit was valid and determined he used his firearm in self-defense.” Oh yeah – let’s see if he had a right to defend himself against that armed criminal. No? Oh, well, Sorry, Perp! We got the wrong guy! We’ll put Smith in ‘cuffs and – oh, by the way, here’s his wallet…
