Concealed Carry Holder Teaches Armed Robber Why It’s a Bad Idea to Pull a Gun on a Dad
A father in Columbus, Ohio was forced to defend himself and his 2-month-old son when a man pulled a gun and attempted to rob him on Monday night. Luckily, Kelby Smith, 34, owns a permit to carry a concealed handgun and was able to shoot the robber.
Smith told police that he was sitting in his brother’s driveway just before 9 p.m. when the armed robber approached him. The man held a gun to the father’s head while his 2-month-old son sat in a car carrier. Instinctively, the dad shielded the child from the robber’s gun.
Smith handed over all the money he had and the robber and took off on foot, but then reportedly pointed the gun back at the father and his baby, according WBNS-TV.
Smith then pulled out his legal handgun, for which he has a concealed carry permit, and fired at the suspect. While the robber still got away, a man fitting the description of the suspect arrived at Mount Carmel West Hospital with a gunshot wound shortly after the incident.
WBNS-TV has more:
Police later confirmed that Smith’s concealed weapons permit was valid and determined he used his firearm in self-defense. The man in the hospital will face charges if police determine he is the robbery suspect.
Smith and his child were not injured in the robbery.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:48pmSEE – that’s the kind of thing that obumer and biden are trying to prevent. The poor criminal was shot, while plying his trade, by one of the patriotic gun toteing bums. The criminal should, in the two afore mentioned fools opinion, be able to rob at will and not have to worry about retaliation. We need to have a new executive order to prevent this from occuring. May well be because the two bums have much in common with the criminal.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 2:38ami find it a bit odd how the MSM is focusing a good deal of attention on these self defense cases involving firearms lately. does anyone else find it a bit peculiar? the MSM wants to play us all for fools. you should hate to own a gun, yet here is a good reason to own a gun. this is what happens when people own guns, this is why it;s a good idea to have a gun. they are pro/con all in the same damn week. but only the low-information sheeple stick to the notion that guns are bad.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 9:16pmMy wife and I both carry irons at all times. That’s pretty much a given here in MS. I prefer the S&W 686 7-shot model. A lot of people avoid the .357 because of recoil and reduced controlability but I use a light 125g cartridge that really reduces the recoil. My wife packs a little .38 snub-nose. And on a side note, don’t be so quick to dismiss the smaller calibers such as .38 and .32 guys-a slug in the guts is a slug in the guts period.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 9:13pmFor all the discussion of caliber one item is over looked, the bullet. There IS a difference between a JHP lead core bullet and a solid copper hollow point bullet. Check out http://www.barnesbullets.com for some excelent info on REAL stopping power.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 8:49pmOK, Here is my say on calibers.
I feel the most comfortable with my .45 1911 , I feel better with my Beretta 92 9mm , but the gun i diskike the most is the one I would grab first is my Glock 17 w/ 23 ? round mag. I do not like single action.

As Vice President Joe Biden puts on his act of looking for answers to what is needed for gun control, he is also espousing the side stepping of Congress, via Presidential Order to enact gun control bans on various part of weapons or a weapon that looks a certain way or adding additional expenses on the licensing of said weapons or ammunition.
I understand the heartfelt knee jerk reaction to the school shootings across the nation. However to null or change an Amendment to the Constitution of the United States by Presidential Order is Unconstitutional. In fact Presidential Orders themselves are Unconstitutional but have not been challenged at this time. So to accept that the President or Vice president can assume the power of the people to change a Right given by our Creator is absolutely an act of SEDITION or even HIGH TREASON. Any Congressmen allowing this Presidential Order to stand, without taking action against the said same is him/her-self guilty of Sedition and Treason by means of quietly standing by and doing nothing. This is called Nonfeasance. Which is tantamount to voting affirmative, for this Presidential Order of GUN Control or the Banning of parts or ammunition for said guns. Including the over regulation of such.
Below are the reasons for the Bill Of Rights as argued by our forefathers.
During the debates on the adoption of the Constitution

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 4:54pmCenter Mass. Always. Most people do not train enough to aim anywhere else. As for gun selection, use whichever caliber is most comfortable for you and gives you the most confidence to make a good shot. My wife can’t pull the slide or handle my .45 with any confidence but she will hit where she aims with her .38 at 25 feet or less. Most important thing good guy (or girl) lives, bad guy dies.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 2:54pmThe type of ammo makes a big difference. .22 stingers can do a lot of damage. Frangible ammo transmits 100% of the energy of the bullet into what it hits, be that a twig or a turd. The best defense against getting robbed is good situation awareness. Most of the time (but not all of the time) a thief will only attack someone if they are not paying attention.

Luckily, he has a constitutional right to own and carry a handgun and was able to shoot the robber… the fact he has a concealed carry permit isn’t the main point here.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 2:18pmIf you have to shoot. Shoot to kill. Only one person should get to tell the story. Once dispatched he cannot come back and kill or threaten you so you cannot testify. Kill you just for payback or decide to kill his next victim, just to avoid hassles. My step-dad who taught me extensively about how to commit crime always said. If there are no witnesses, there is no crime.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 1:03pmToo bad the father was such a bad shot. That’s why you need to practice. If you kill the bad guys, he won’t come back another day and rob someone else. Funny how the left isn’t making a big deal about this. Maybe they’ll try to lock up the father for having the gall to protect himself and his child. Wouldn’t put it past the hypocrites.

Seriously, this guy wasn’t mugged or attacked. The man shot someone because he’s a lunatic, in front of his daughter I might add. This was a random act of violence, like most “self defense” shootings are.
Thank god you will never hear about this on CNN, MSNBC or anywhere else the majority get their news :) :)

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 1:39pmLet’s play Who’s the Lunatic!
Contestant # 1 – Law abiding citizen exercising his second most basic right as a citizen, bringing home his young son. Quite the slippery cat this one!
Contestandt # 2 – Likely felon, who puts guns to peoples heads, takes their money, then RUNS AWAY, turns – “Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?” – and points guns at people.
Contestant # 3 – Comfortable, angry, fist-at-God-shaker. Who to those on the outside wants to deny the very definition of wrong and right?

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 3:00pmBy your definition, I am a lunatic too. I sincerely hope that you come to a life threatening situation where if you make the wrong instantaneous choice, *you*die*. Or better yet, if you make the wrong instantaneous choice, your child dies. Until you have been in that situation, there is absolutely no way on earth that you can point a finger at anyone. It appears as though you do not even know that you are being a stupid jerk. But then, that’s what reasonable people expect from you lefties.

Otherwise YOU’LL end up in court as the defendant. Also, the family may still try to sue you. (‘he was ONLY trying to steal stuff’) Me, Mr. Ruger Redhawk .44 Mag lives here. If you break into my house you’re fair game, and you’ll leave in a bag, because I have no idea WHAT you planned to do. Posted on January 10, 2013 at 12:27pmI use the .45 with a either a .357 mag or 9 mm as secondary weapons. Despite what someone posted earlier, I have never heard of anyone still standing let alone walking away from having a full magazine from a .45 fired into their chests. 9 mm yes, .45 no. One of the things that I took into consideration when deciding on the .45 besides being familiar with it from the military was it’s relatively low velocity. I use hollow points with it thinking that it should cut down on my concern with the round going though several walls and going into my neighbor’s house and hitting someone. The thing that would concern me about this article is that he shot the armed robber and it didn’t disable him. Yes, in this case the criminal ran away, but he could have just as likely returned fire hitting the shooter or his child.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 12:13pmAnd of course, they want to take our guns away, just as…
Our cities are going bankrupt and cutting police departments. Meanwhile, the federal government (also bankrupt – on a number of levels…) is stocking theirs up, giving pay raises and conducting all kinds of exercises (let’s keep in mind that exercises are always based upon some real world contingency).
I am a knuckle dragging thug, not an economist; however, it seems painfully obvious from even the most casual observation of history, that corruption follows economic collapse (as ours is surely about to do – pick your scenario). As police department see furloughs, pay and budget cuts (look no further than Detroit); and as prosecutors case loads rise, fewer crooks in prison, more released from prisons due to budgetary crises – the corruption will root and grow overnight. Police will be used more and more at the whim of Gov’t officials and become de-sensitized to the corruption, or they will leave and be replaced by thugs. The police will become more like the police in other police states. Yay!
So with the police more harm than good, morons and thieves running the Gov’t, the thugs normally kept at bay by our penal system, or underground where their criminal enterprises can be safely managed – over 500 women and kids in some sexual trafficking ring or another on the average Seattle day – they will be free to roam about where they please. The suburbs won’t know what hit them. And you and me with no gun
