Glenn Beck Wants to Change the Way You Look at Commercials and Advertisements

As the week unfolds with new components of Glenn Beck’s American Dream Labs being revealed each night, Beck took Wednesday evening to delve into the pitfalls of traditional advertising and the negative impact it can have on viewers. With this in mind, Beck hopes to rework how advertising is both produced and consumed on TheBlaze.

With an understanding that advertising can be both an annoyance and intrusion, Beck also acknowledged the fact that small businesses, and small press both need advertising in order to survive  So, how does one address this conundrum?

“Why” and “community” are the two words Beck points to as his “compass points” in moving forward with his business.

In terms of advertising, Beck said that people need to address quality in production.

TiVos and DVRs are problematic in that people do skip over commercials. Given that commercials are the life-blood of the network, they treat them like the “ugly step child.”

However, Beck said he understands that in order to build an entire network, the revenue is needed.

Beck then talked about his strategy for reinventing commercials. To illustrate, he drew on the famous couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. While many considered Ball the brains behind the dynamic duo (and she was in terms of comedic talent), according to Beck, Desi Arnaz knew how the television industry really worked. He was the first person to truly implement (not invent) the three-camera “Desi shoot” that is still used today in most production work.

Beck said he was hopes to start an entirely new department that focuses solely on producing in-house, high-quality commercials that viewers are actually interested in. Beck plans to implement a two-week long pilot of original commercial programming in March during the normally allocated advertising breaks to see how his audience likes the new model.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

As Glenn said, it’s OK to fail in American business. That’s the free market way. Having said that, as consumers we decide what can want to watch. I don’t like internet ad’s and don’t want to watch them. I’ll give my support some other way. I urge everybody on this site to install adblocker on your browser. Never have to watch an ad again.

More commercials for crazy survivalists. Seeds (hahaha), bunkers, “The gov is afraid of this man” advertisements. 20 years of freeze dried food preparing for the revolution that is not going to happened. Books with titles similar to , “Are you ready for a disaster?”, “will your family be safe if a catastrophe happens?”. These commercials are directed at people who don’t know any better and can’t realize they are getting ripped off.

Glenn’s points are clear. The problems with our markets are that the real entrepreneurs and developers, which type of people founded this nation through creative discoveries and innovative inventions, are not able to create and develop And market superior designs without a platform that supports creativity with pure motivations. Our company, for example, is bringing forward advanced technologies which our competitors would love to buy and hide away..preferring rather to sell poorly made products with high margins. It is very difficult to compete against the “big boys” massive marketing campaigns. And we know that if a company like ours simply sells out to theses people, the technology will disappear. And people will continue to only be able to buy the poorly made products designed for eventual failure. We as a small company removed the greedy attitude from our company. We make a good profit in exchange for a great value to our people. Products we design were designed Never to fail. The idea of making products that never to fail is something we, as a nation use to have as a primary attitude and effort. Those days are gone as a whole. When a company tries to make and promote such products, large companies, often do everything they can to get rid of us. Take for example the old tractors which Americans farmed fields with…they would last for generations…but cars break down after a few years. We need to restore the heart of love of quality that we once had as a nation.

i think it’s a good idea. if he wants to try to see if he can promote these businesses & their products in a better way, a more entertaining way, i support that. to be honest, the other day i was wanting to buy something, possibly a product ad i saw during BSofA during one of their skits, but there’s no way i could begin to try to find which episode i saw the item on. i was looking for something on the website that said ‘our advertisers’ or something so i could click on them from the blaze & buy & they could see that it was worthwhile putting their ad on this network. i gave up though. so i hope they can make it easy to find the list of advertisers because i swear one of these days i’m going to buy that crazy garden hose, 1791 jeans, & seriously i thought i saw that commercial for the ‘bath rug’ on the blaze.

Glenn doesn’t speak about himself.(but if you don’t understand Truth, you might think so. Glenn is talking to, and about, and for those of us who will be left after the smoke clears, who will be restoring what is broken, and bringing back what was stolen away. This nation will in fact fall. And those who have Understanding know that it will happen. We are unfortunately not the most powerful nation anymore, and we are more vulnerable now than ever before. We do not have the latest technology, and those of us who spend time overseas are well aware of it. We are left with Walmart quality, the poorest of education among 2nd and 3rd world nations, and technology that is 2 to 3 years behind China. Glen is reminding the people that we need to bring back inventors, and creators back into the ranks. Because when we are eventually attacked and crushed brought down to nothing….it is those people who stood with Principle and Truth, and filled themselves with Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding form on High, that will help the rest of the people to survive as comfortably as is possible.

I remember the commercials in Germany back in the 70′s and 80′s. I had grandparents there I visited. Anywho—they put all their commercials between programs and interspersed them with funny little cartoons. I used to love watching the commercials just for the cartoons, which would only last for 10 to 20 seconds each. It let people enjoy the show without interruptions and then entertained you during them, so you wouldn’t leave the room. I wish American television would be that way.

Should have done that from the start Glenn. You can’t support a television network with radio quality advertisers. It doesn’t work. Maybe you should try getting Ford to advertise, or Wal-Mart. Better yet Cabela’s. Gojo, orgreenic, and easy eyes to name a few don’t really cut it. Gold Line does a quality commercial and Cheaper than Dirt does okay as well. We supported you with a subscription to Blaze TV for ourselves and my parents from the beginning but alas the economy and other issues have brought that to an end. Still listening when I can though. Good Luck and our prayers are with you and yours.

From looking at the comments it seems that this was lost on most of you. But that’s ok, this episode wasn’t targeted at us, it was clearly filmed to create some marketing videos that Beck can send to his advertisers and so that the word will get out to the rest of the news media industry. Because you know that all of them employ people to watch each others shows, every single person in the TV News Media will know about Beck’s plan before lunch tomorrow. This will create a lot of discussion amongst those who actually matter for this idea to succeed. In other words, today’s show was one giant piece of advertising directed at everyone in Beck’s industry. And while all of that is going on behind the scenes in his industry and he is quietly transforming it, we will have forgotten about these episodes once march rolls around.

I listened to Glenn’s explanation of how he wants to ‘modernize’ the way TV commercials are viewed. This is BS !!!! We don’t want to have our TIVOs taken away. We like to be able to fast forward through those horrible interruptions in our programs. What makes Glenn think we just want ‘more creative’ commercials or to be ‘entertained’ better while we watch worthless BS commercials? This is BS !!! Glenn, you’re on the wrong side here. ‘We the People’ demand shorter and fewer commercials…not different or more interesting interruptions. Perhaps you should concentrate on improved programming. Better program content will bring more viewers – more viewers will bring more/better advertisers. It’s that simple. Did I say this is BS? …..rf

I see the synergy he’s talking about. He creates a paranoid view of imminent economic collapse on his show and recommends you buy gold. Then he has gold commercials. He extols the virtue of being patriotic, then you see a commercial showing how you can demonstrate your patriotism by wearing his line of jeans. He speaks of the coming apocalypse, then sells survivalist equipment during the break.

Awesome. He peddles fear on his show, then his commercials explain how you can defend yourself buy purchasing certain products. Great concept. He benefits financially, and you, uh, can like protect yourself or something by transferring your dollars to him. I get it.

What happened to that thing about him donating his clothing profits to charity, like Paul Newman? I thought that was the whole idea. I guess he forgot about that.

The problem I have w/commercials now-a-days is that most of them, the actors are singing these stupid songs. Like the State Farm commercials, oy vey. I wouldn’t mind it so much but they play the same commercials over and over again and you only get about 7min of showtime and 4min of commercials maybe more, it’s gotten so out of hand. I’d rather watch infomercials.
