‘Real News’: Gun Control in the Crosshairs

Approaching a month since the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut, the national debate on gun control has taken an alarming turn, and answers for effective legislation to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people while respecting the Second Amendment seem no closer to the table. The pro-gun and anti-gun sides appear to be becoming more vitriolic towards each other, and majority-supported policy to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unstable has not come easily.

Two weeks ago The Journal News, a small northern New York suburb newspaper, drew the ire of conservatives across the country and made national news after publishing the names and addresses of handgun permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties. This week, Gawker published the names of all the gun owners, as they refer to as “assholes,” in New York City.

A story coming out of Los Angeles picked up by TMZ has shocked many in the wake of the Connecticut shooting, as a 24-year-old man who threatened on social media to recreate the Sandy Hook shooting in California will not be prosecuted by police. When police first heard about his threats Kyle Bangayan was arrested and police found in his house six semi-automatic handguns, two rifles and one shotgun. Police say they released Bangayan because his threats were not specific.

Vice President Joe Biden is currently overseeing a task force to lower gun violence that is expected to recommend far-reaching gun control legislation, and state governors like Andrew Cuomo of New York have proposed new and extremely tough laws on gun ownership.

Second Amendment enthusiasts and many conservatives have opined that these massive legislative overhauls on gun control are being proposed with little input of gun owners, and the actions of Gawker and The Journal Times feed in to an unfair assumption that anyone who owns a gun is dangerous.

On ‘Real News’ Wednesday the panel discussed the direction the gun control debate has gone in recent weeks, and how lawmakers can work to decrease gun violence without stepping on civil liberties or compromising safety.

    Simple. Laws can’t thwart evil.

Talk of some sort of executive order by Obama to restrict or “change” our guns laws seems to be just the up-front portion of his attempt to make us live like cows.
If you read both of the attached stories, it’s pretty clear that being a well-known weapons expert in the civilian sector is becoming very hazardous to your health. Am I reading too much into the deaths of two renowned weapons experts in just one week? Traffic accidents are one thing; but, a single bullet to the head is quite another. That death reminds me of the deaths of three openly gay members of Jeremiah Wright’s congregation between November and December 31, 2007. Oh, did I mention that the Chicago police have no leads?
As far as I’m concerned, it’s started.

They are not going to find the guns buried in the rain, decades ago that the birds in the air did not see, neither are they going to be able to dig up acres of land where dozens of iron pipe joints are buried to make it impossible to find guns buried with metal detectors, or buried in proximity to pipe lines or other metal objects? Don’t even think about taking guns, you can not account for them all?

Law makers should understand that amending the laws protects no one, only advocating and uniting behind the common sense that those who are responsible in our communities will own and teach others the responsible use of guns to protect the community, is the only logical and answer that works?

Throughout history there has only been one thing that has been able to stop a “Bad Guy” with a gun and worked every time, and that is a “Good Guy” with a gun. Why do we have our Police and Military armed with guns? The answer is obvious, force must be met with force. While it would be great if nobody had guns, or the intent to do bodily harm to another, in reality there has always been and will continue to be someone that wished to do harm to another. Allow teachers or administrators to carry concealed if they are properly trained and licensed to protect our children in schools. Expand the CCW laws to cover all states so that a person of good moral character is enabled to protect the lives and property of others in any grave situation. Do NOT require or allow the federal government to create a data base of legal gun owners. These are not tough guidelines, but I challenge anyone to tell me why they wouldn’t work if our goal is to protect the citizenry of the United States. If the goal is anything else then it should be clearly stated as such so all parties are equally informed before expressing their individual desires. Is this truly expecting too much from the constituents of a Constitutional Republic?

    “Second Amendment enthusiasts”?

What the heck is that? Is it anything like a 10 Amendment enthusiast? What sets apart an enthusiast for the 5th Amendment from one of the 14th?

There is only ONE Constitutional Amendment for which the word “enthusiast” is apropos – that’s the 16th, and the enthusiasts are the scom-soking polticians and their broods which milk on the fatted teets of the Federal Pigg.

As my dad always said, you cannot legislate morality, so failing that, a person should be able to defend himself. It has been that way since the dawn of time and as much as we like to think other wise, we are not very civilized.

The only way to combat an evil individual with a desire to kill, is somebody else with the desire and ablilty to stop him.

First thing Cuomo, Biden, Boxer, Pelosi, etc. needs to do to show how sincere they are is to send all of their armed guards home and quit being a hypocrite.

65 million gun owners didnt hurt anybody today.
