Biden Holds Unannounced Meeting With Faith Leaders…on Gun Control

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden (R) makes brief remarks to the press at the beginning of a meeting with U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder (2nd R) and gun violence survivors and victims and gun safety advocacy groups in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building January 9, 2013 in Washington, DC. Credit: Getty Images
Following controversial comments alleging that President Barack Obama will potentially rely upon “executive orders” to tackle gun control, Vice President Joe Biden held an unannounced meeting with faith leaders on Wednesday where he purportedly reiterated the same point.
The nation’s second-in-command and his gun violence team discussed the issues surrounding firearms and the country’s most recent crises with 12 national faith leaders in an effort to urge them to “help find common sense solutions.”
During the event, Biden reportedly echoed what he told reporters earlier in the day — that the Obama administration will be taking two tracks to curb gun violence and, coincidentally, ownership. In addition to working with Congress and relying upon a legislative track, the vice-president, again, said that Obama will use unilateral control through executive action. This latter avenue will be taken more quickly, as the president has the ability to more swiftly enact regulations.
CNN has more about the topics of discussion that were on the table during the faith-based discussion:
In the meeting, he did not offer specifics on what type of measures the committee was contemplating. The topics of background checks, assault weapon bans and mental health were discussed, and the vice president mentioned those three as some of the most talked about subjects so far in his various committee sessions.
Leaders of the Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Hindu religions, as well as Evangelical and Pentecostal Christian communities, were represented. Among other topics they raised: protection of religious buildings and religious intolerance.
Several of the faith leaders in attendance spoke about the horror that gun violence has brought the nation in recent months, with Biden talking about how imperative — at a moral level — it is to take pointed action.
“He was asking the faith community to use the power of our moral voices and persuasion” to help find common sense solutions,” said Rev. Michael McBride, the head of PICO National Network’s Lifelines to Healing Campaign — an effort to reduce inner-city gun violence.

While it’s known that a diverse group of faith leaders was in attendance at this meeting, it is unclear where each individual stands politically and, more specifically, on gun control. But considering the power and persuasion that religious influentials have over congregations, it’s no surprise that the administration is seeking their guidance and assistance in finding solutions.
Rallying people of faith on this issue, though, may be a difficult task. As TheBlaze has previously noted, when it comes to enacting gun control initiatives, there are stark differences among Christian denominations. These disparities grow even more when ethnicity comes into play. While white evangelicals, for instance, shun gun control, black Christians (and Catholics, more generally) tend to advocate for stricter laws.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 9:52amOne thing is becoming clear is that Obamas second term will dwarf his first in the turn to the far left. It’s just amazing to see the hypocracy on the left and their glaring disregard for the Constitution. This gun debate is so emotional it defies logic. Using the tradegy at Sandy Hook isn’t a good idea and at the end of the day it was the person and not the guns that killed the kids. But, it all boils down to feeling good because you are doing something to make something better, no matter if it works or not. I say all those like Biden and Obama should be the first to announce their secret service teams will protect them unarmed, no guns; they will use swords, knifes or a sling shot. See how that would go over.

First of all, the Secret Service is authorized by law (18 United States Code § 3056) to protect the President and Vice President. They (P & VP) have no authority to tell the Secret Service how to protect them, so it is crazy to even suggest that they could ask for no guns to be used in their protection.
Secondly, the President is NOT trying to take away our Second Amendment Rights – that’s paranoid thinking. But, he wisely does want to create some meaningful gun control. Whether you wish to recognize it or not, guns are part of the problem and the control of their use and the control of which types of weapons that should be allowed for use by citizens is critical for the health and safety of our Nation. And, believe it or not, MOST American’s want some sort of meaningful gun control.
Thirdly, if the President chooses to use his executive powers with regards to gun control, there is a limited amount his Office has the authority to do. They are considering such actions as “making gun-trafficking a felony, getting the Justice Dept. to prosecute people caught lying on gun background-check forms and ordering federal agencies to send data to the National Gun Background Check Database.” (Associated Press) It would take Congressional approval for there to be any weapon’s ban.

Notice that they refuse to listen to “debate”, they just want their way. They continually enlist “useful idiots” (Hollywood, religion, etc.) to push their effort to ” comporomise” (i.e. get you to give up a little more). If they could just get all the guns they could always get their way.

A little history lesson for you
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews, Romani and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
OK. Now add that up. 56 million defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens. Note the word ‘Citizens’. Without that right, we’re just Subjects

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 11:08amTo the LEO how does the Warren vs DC case effect this situation of gun banning?
The SCOTUS has ruled that police are there to enforce the laws not to provide protection.
Are you obligated to enforce an unconstitutional law? Enforce it until it is deemed unconstitutional? Are LEO legally bound to uphold the constitution or enforce the laws?
These are serious questions that have to be answered. I am sure that the US citizens would like to know the legalities of what the LEO’s will have to do. I am sure you would like to know what you will be expected to do.
Some questions you might ask your version of JAG. Maybe than you could use that information to Community Organize in your ranks and make a stronger statement.
If you do nothing what does that say?
Nuremberg Principle IV states: “The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him”.
This principle could be paraphrased as follows: “It is not an acceptable excuse to say ‘I was just following my superior’s orders’”.

A platform the Democrats ran on, so the hypocrisy is off the charts. They take God, morality, rule of law and personal responsibility out of the public domain and then point the finger at the law abiding citizens. You take God out and evil will fill the void every time. I am deeply sorrowed by the senseless destruction of these lives. If you can expose the demigods that are screaming for something to be done as the basis for what is happening, then maybe this senseless slaughter can be used for a positive change to prevent this crap from happening again. Obama and the democrats are promoting hate and envy as the way to maintain and expand their power and I am sure this will be no different. We need to attack at every level, use their words against them, expose the soft underbelly of these evil people and align ourselves with God and WE WIILL WIN the battle for this nation and its soul.

Both of your posts seem to imply that it is only Democrats and/or Liberals who are pro-choice, and that the Republicans and Conservatives hold a monopoly on righteous living. Well, considering who passed Roe vs Wade in 1973, and unleashed the “slaughter of children” in our Country, I think you’d better look at your own party/political persuasion as the culprits (Roe v Wade was passed by a majority of Republican-appointed Supreme Court Justices – 5 out of the 7 of the majority. Of the three Democratic-appointed Justices on the Court, 2 voted in the Majority and 1 voted in the Minority along with 1 Republican-appointed Justice). And if I’m correct, since Roe v Wade, no Republican Congressman or Congresswomen has tried to implement legislation to change the Roe v Wade ruling, although I may be wrong about this. So, I’m not sure why you are demonizing Democrats and Liberals in regards to abortion. Personally, I know many Conservatives who are Pro-Choice and many Liberals who are Pro-Life. It’s not an either/or, black or white issue. Stop trying to make abortion a political issue, unless you are willing to admit to yourselves that is was the Republicans who did the unleashing.

Things like this are what make me wonder about the fake outrage from the left when it comes to things like we saw in the Sandy Hook massacre. They will fully condone, or at the very least turn a blind eye to, the fact of 50 million babies being murdered every year thru abortions and then have the unmitigated gall to act so outraged at the death of a nuisance animal or the tragic death of children. Maybe I missed something. Maybe it’s the method not the event they object to. Maybe it’s because they’re just hacked off that the children’s deaths were done with “an evil black rifles” and not with a vacuum sucking the brains out”. Or maybe most likely they’re thinking “we can use this event to our own ends to take control”

Weapons ban – no right to it.
Mental health – as defined by who? For ex. – too many of Gaybama’s advocates have stated that Conservatism is a mental health issue, and they were serious. Did you ever write an angry letter, post an angry thought; did you ever refuse to divulge to a doctor that you own firearms; have you ever taken medication for stress, or to help you sleep, are you a member of an anti-government organization (as defined by who?); did you ever raise your voice or act out in class, or at home with parents or neighbors?
Background check – to fit in any of the above, and more.

And they at best want everyone’s input as to how to do it, short of civil war. Above all else that Obama has done to our Constitution, the 2nd Amendment is by far most crucial because its annihilation takes away all resistance to the overthrow of America. Like Rush Limbaugh says: “Don’t doubt me”! If he can get away with it, he will use the Executive Order to do it, and thereby bypass Congress all together. If you read both of the attached stories, it’s pretty clear that being a well-known weapons expert in the civilian sector is becoming very hazardous to your health. That death reminds me of the deaths of three openly gay members of Jeremiah Wright’s congregation between November and December 31, 2007. Oh, did I mention that the Chicago police have no leads?
As far as I’m concerned, it’s started.
