Egyptian Cleric Warns Christian Women: If You Don’t Wear a Veil You’ll Be Raped
A Salafi preacher in Egypt is promoting the idea of an anti-vice religious police force like in Saudi Arabia and says even Christian women should be veiled when they are outdoors, unless they “want to get raped on the streets.”
Reuters profiled the Muslim cleric, Hisham el-Ashry, who — while obscure — is finding sympathy for his opinions under Egypt’s new Muslim Brotherhood-led regime. Reuters reports:
“I was once asked: If I came to power, would I let Christian women remain unveiled? And I said: If they want to get raped on the streets, then they can,” Ashry told Nahar TV last week.
Introducing a Saudi-style anti-vice police force to enforce Islamic law was “not a bad thing”, he said, and added: “In order for Egypt to become fully Islamic, alcohol must be banned and all women must be covered.”
Reuters explains that Al Azhar, Sunni Islam’s top authority, and Dar al Ifta, the central authority on religious rulings, say religious practices should not be policed.
Even Egypt’s Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa rejects Hisham el-Ashry’s position. In a statement, he said: “This sort of idiotic thinking is one that seeks to further destabilize what is already a tense situation…Egypt’s religious scholars have long guided the people to act in ways that conform to their religious commitments, but have never thought this required any type of invasive policing.”
While the Muslim Brotherhood rejects individuals getting involved in imposing sharia rules, it won’t rule out the government taking on that task. Muslim Brotherhood Spokesman Mahmoud Ghozlan told Reuters: “The case of promotion of virtue and prevention of vice is within the jurisdiction of the authorities and not individuals or groups…It is not anyone’s right to intervene.”
Like Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi, the radical preacher warning Christian women to veil themselves lived for years in the United States, an experience that clearly did not moderate his views. El-Ashry moved to New York in the 1990s where he dedicated his spare time to converting Christians to Islam. Reuters explains:
“I went there with a dream to get a blonde girl and a big car,” he said in one of his televised interviews. “(But) I was advised on the plane to cherish my religion and not get taken by the USA or risk being spoiled and losing my faith.”
His religious convictions grew stronger over the next 15 years in the United States, he said.
“I had, thanks to God, guided many Christians to Islam. I can’t tell how many as I stopped counting when their number exceeded 100,” he said.
It was when he was working at a men’s clothing factory in New York that he became convinced that Egypt needed a Saudi-style anti-vice force.
“(My goal was) to make all Egyptians love it,” he said.
Now, el-Ashry is back in Egypt and continues his quest to convert new Muslims. In the fall, writer Graeme Wood described a series of meetings he held with el-Ashry over the course of a year in which the cleric instructed Wood on Salafism.
Wood wrote in The New Republic:
I NEVER ASKED MUCH of Hesham El Ashry, and Hesham never asked much of me. All I wanted was some conversation about religion and Egyptian politics with someone who had strong views on both. All Hesham wanted was one more chance to describe in grotesque detail the fate that awaited me and everybody I loved: Our skin would thicken, not with callouses but with soft, thin, tender layers, each more sensitive than the last. Eventually the accumulated layers would be miles deep. And then God—not my god, or the god of the vast majority of so-called Muslims, but the one true Allah, worshiped by Hesham’s fellow Salafis—would burn off those layers individually, savoring the pain until he reached flesh. Then Allah would restore them again, like Prometheus’s liver, so he could blister and rip them away for eternity.
“I hate you,” Wood quoted el-Ashry as saying. “I hate all Jews and Christians, anyone who is not a Muslim.”
Wood was introduced to el-Ashry by the son of the “Blind Sheikh” Omar Abdel-Rahman, now serving a life sentence in the U.S. for his role in bombing the World Trade Center in 1993. Wood writes that el-Ashry considers Abdel-Rahman to be his religious guide. Earlier this week, President Morsi told CNN he would like President Barack Obama to free Abdel-Rahman from U.S. custody.
El-Ashry moved back to Egypt and joined the Blind Sheikh’s movement. As a result, Egyptian authorities under deposed President Hosni Mubarak jailed and tortured him in 2000 and – according to Wood – told him he had to choose between exile or the death penalty.
Back in Brooklyn, el-Ashry worked as a tailor and continued searching for converts. In 2009, U.S. authorities expelled him for immigration violations. While waiting for his deportation back to Egypt, he claims he converted six detainees and one guard in a New York holding center.

Anyway, all we can expect for a response from our “illustrious” State Dept. is a promise to Egypt of more great big checks to pay this cleric not to rape Christians, to buy veils for Christian women in Egypt, and then pay the Egyptian government for schooling for both Christian and Arab women alike in order to promote “understanding.” Ug, when will we be rid of these AWFUL baby-boomers and their infantile self-absorption? Posted on January 10, 2013 at 4:56pmWhile the statement is horrible, I’ve heard phrases shockingly similar to this here in the US.
“If you don’t want to get raped, then you better not wear that miniskirt!”
“If you look like a whore, expect to be used like one!”
“A girl drinking alcohol at a party is like leaving the car unlocked in the bad part of town!”
“Wear your **** short because long **** is easier to grab!”
“Don’t wear overalls because a rapist is likely to cut them with a knife or scissors!”
etc, etc…
Obviously there’s a difference where this cleric seems to be egging rapists on, but the message is the same: if you present yourself in a non-conservative appearance, you’re setting yourself up to be raped. Of course there are two major problems in both cases: 1) This puts responsibility (partially or completely) on the woman by ignoring her rapist, and 2) There is absolutely NO link between how a woman dresses and the likelihood of her getting raped (at least here in the US). This is because most rape occurs between people who know each other, and thus the way one dresses is not an important factor.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 12:17pmso instead of ‘convert or die’ it is ‘convert or be raped?’
actually, he is not demanding conversion… yet.
it’s funny that even CAIR feigns outrage when here we expect that women remove their headwear at least for photo identification, yet here, in the opposite, non-muslim women are expected to dress as if they were muslim women… or face rape… wait, that was not what was threatened here, when the ACLU got all hot and bothered…
in point of fact, muslim women in Egypt face the same total control of those in Saudi, Iran, and many other parts of the Middle East, where the fascist male dominant interpretation of the Quran allows for ‘temporary marriage’ and multiple wives and ‘punishment’ of wives including hideous physical abuse… where marital rape is not rape, and a woman raped despite her headcover is ostracized and may be killed by her family for ‘allowing it to happen.’
a twisted interpretation of the religion, maybe, but a prevelant one across the MidEast, and one our president indirectly supports by his support of those who promote it.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 2:21pmI heard that an American court was refusing to convict someone of a crime because he was a muslim, and under sharia what he did was not criminal even though he did it in the US. I think it was a domestic abuse case, but I don’t remember the details right now. His wife had every right to be protected under our laws. Being from another country or culture is not an excuse for breaking our laws.
Muslims support government based on their religion, not the constitution. Destroying the constitution is a religiously mandated goal. Islam is not separate from politics, it is the biggest political group in the world. You should study up on the “rights” of non believers under sharia.
to the poster who asked why women in the middle east don’t just take their kids and flee the country: Read Not Without My Daughter, a true story about an American who married a foreigner and became trapped in his country with her daughter. She got the two of them out, but it was very difficult and dangerous.
Think before you say something like that. Women under laws and social restrictions that can make it impossible (in some places) to go outside the house for a cup of coffee without being escorted by a male relative… can’t just pack up and go without money or passports or permission.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 3:44pmThe Salafi Cleric above is simply quoting what has been believed in Islam from the 7th century. Kill all the infidels, all jews that you find hiding behind a tree or rock, rape anyone you want and it is all sanctioned by their deity. I talked to a Christian man from AFrica. In his village as in many villages that are not Muslim they believe that the Prophet Mohammed was inhabited by a “JIN” that gave him his power. A “JIN” is the equivalent of a demonic spirit. The first thing the Prophet did after amassing an army is return to Medina in Saudi Arabia and begin to exterminate Christians and Jews. He “cleansed” the area of these infidels through beheading and rape. RAPE is the Islamic way and so is ethnic cleansing. Islam at its basis is murderous and genocidal and it has been this way since the 7th century. The Arabs are the world’s slave traders and have been so since antiquity. Just talk to AFrican people. Islam is enslaving AFricans left and right. One AFrican nation after another is being taken over. Mali is currently in the news but all the problems in the Sudan have to do with a Muslim Government in the North of Sudan murdering the Christian and Animist South. Look it up for yourself. Mogadishu the capital city of Somalia is owned by Al Quaeda now. They run that city.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 12:12pmSo I guess using these radical’s logic, if a muslim woman wears a veil in the United States outdoors, then she is encouraging herself to be raped in the streets. This is in order to make sure she is converted to Christianity. I don’t think so. Yet this is their logic. I don’t know, but I think that part of the world is starting to look better if it became a glass parking lot. You know, some high intensity type device that turns sand into glass. I’m sure Iran is working diligently to make sure that happens, but unfortunately for them, it may backfire and Iran will become the parking lot instead or Israel.

Posted on January 10, 2013 at 3:53pmThis cleric is a fabulous liar! It isn’t just Christian women who don’t wear the veil who will get raped. It is all women who wear the veil and all women who don’t wear the veil. In fact, a Muslim man can rape a woman of any kind for any reason and they do. Egyptian women report being sexually harrassed, touched inappropriately, and “fingered” for any reason. Muslim men can do what they want. With who they want. They can rape little boys and little girls. They are never prosecuted. My ex nephew is from Iraq. It is common for little boys to be ‘touched” getting them ready for the older men in the public bathhouses. The Prophet in the Hadith had a vision in which he saw women falling into hell. Women are for child bearing. That is it. Men are more preferred. Can you say Pashtun? I can. I love their ‘wives” in Yemen and other parts of the Middle East to be very young. As young as 9 years old. A young Muslim girl can be as young as 13 “married” off to a 40 year old man. Muslim men are groomed to be rapists, child molesters and sexual perverts. They take the cake in all three categories. This is the most sexually polluted religion in the world. I LMAO when they accuse the West of being the Great Satan. It is their title to own by their own sick behavior. They should stop pointing the finger and clean up their own filthy religion. I doubt they will. I think they doth protest too much.

I expect & demand that a women dressed to the nines showing cleavage be safe in a bar or elsewhere.
