Like No Stampede You’ve Ever Seen: Thousands of Dolphins Rush Tourist Boat!

Whale watchers were treated to a rare sight Sunday as a stampede of a thousand of dolphins raced with their boat.

In the video footage taken of the event off the coast of Dana Point in California, the pleasure of those on the boat witnessing miles of water being turned up by the dolphins is apparent.

“Holy cow!” one boy exclaimed. To which we can’t help but correct with “holy dolphin!”

The passengers were on Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari. Here’s more from the video description about the stampede, which it compared to being “like a heard of wild horses”:

Ecstatic passengers aboard Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale Safari were able to see the spectacular show from a unique perspective too: below the surface from the Eye to Eye Underwater Viewing Pods! In the two Underwater Viewing Pods passengers are able to BE one of the pod and feel what’s it like to swim with wild dolphins without having to get wet.

Dana Point is in Southern California which has the greatest density of oceanic dolphins per square mile of anywhere in the world. This includes nearly 450,000 common dolphins like the ones in this video. Porpoising is their fastest mode of travel as there is less resistance in air than water. Dolphins are here throughout the year, sometimes in herds numbering upwards of 10,000.

Watch the stunning video:

For those concerned about so many dolphins in the area and the impact the boat’s prop could have on them, Capt. Dave said in a statement in the description of the video that the smart dolphins are aware of the moving prop and generally pass in front of the boat anyway in order to surf on the pressure created by its forward motion.

What cute, beautiful and amazing creatures. How sad that the Japanese people slaugher and eat these magnificent and friendly animals.

If the smart dolphins are aware of the moving prop and generally pass in front of the boat, does that mean the stupid dolphins get cut up and mangled by the propellers on a regular basis? Just curious

Dolphins are to smart and fast, it’s the MANATEE’S that ar slow and to stupid to get out of the way of the prop. That one reason why you will never see Dolphins caught on a fisherman’s hook.

The worst to create as well – Jihadists that slaughter women & children, Intolerant extremists that lie , cheat, & steal in the name of Allah, Rapists that praise the names of their Lords while they violate the helpless, Half-witted idiots that lack a thread of humanity, Merciless, inbred, ignorant, illiterate, apostates that commit any atrocity in the name of their deity, Evil zealots that would not understand charity or kindness if it slapped them in the beard. These are the sinners that Islam honors & adores – manipulated fools that will soon meet the reward they have earned when Satan greets them at the gates of hell! Find a place in the Qoran where Allah promises a reward for those that murder & rape the innocent in his name, a passage that commands killing & torture of those that have ideas that differ from those of Islam. We are waiting! It’s a long book & it takes a while to read, but the passage that justifies the evil isn’t there, is it? Alhamdulillah is a great idea. Sorry that it has to be associated with as many vile acts commited by a small percentage of the Muslim world! Too bad so many of his followere on Earth choose to do Evil in his name. Alhamdulillah (All praise is to Allah) creator of all that is good & deity of many that do evil in his name!

“Allah” might have created the dolphins. And then false prophets like Mohammed turned God’s world into a blodbath of murder and oppression.

This summer I had a rather large pod of bottle noses porpoise right next to my kayak, with in inches. Must have been about fifty or more of the neat buggers. There were so many and they were so close that by the time it was over I was drenched with the spray from their exhales.

I’ve only been kayaking in Tampa for a short while, but other more experienced kayakers that were a few hundred feet away and witnessed me freaking out said it was really rare to see a pod that big and that close, that they’d never seen anything like it. One of the neatest most exhilarating things I’ve ever witnessed.

Once, in the Caribbean on one of Royal Caribbean’s biggest ships, at supper time, looking out the window, I saw scads of dolphins riding the ships’ wakes. My kids got up to see them better and then we could all see hundreds of them behind the ship, as far as we could see- for a mile or so it seemed- in the V’s on both sides. It seemed that the wakes were spaced a couple hundred yards apart (the ship is so big — scale is hard to figure out) which the farther back we looked the biigger the V of course. And every single wake was plastered with frolicking dolphins across what seemed by then to be the entire ocean. It is one of my greatest memories ever and wouldn’t have believed it had I not seen it myself.

I am confused by why this is such a big deal. This always happens. They are not stampeding. Dolphins love to play. They are just swimming next to the boat. They do this all the time in Hawaii, the Baja any and everywhere there are dolphins. The people reporting the news need to get out more.

Anyone else find it annoying that Obama, Pelosi, and others always come up in the comments despite this being just a cool video about Dolphins near a whale watching boat?

If you’ve got nothing better to do than try to come up with a segway from talking about dolphins to talking about liberal trash, then you lead a sorry existence.

It’s a really cool video about dolphins; leave it at that!

Most ofThose Dolphins were rushing out of U.S. water to avoid Obama new taxes. He never said he wouldn’t tax dolphins …I mean what did they expect.
The rest heard that Nancy Pelosi was into innerspecies erocticia and were fleeing before she could catch them.

      I’ll admit, I laughed.

Don’t get me wrong, I cannot stand this administration or what they’re doing to America. I am a patriot. I demand to be free and live as such. My family is a military family. I live in rural America. I cut, split, and burn wood for heat (which now the beloved EPA is also cracking down on http://clashdaily.com/2013/01/off-grid-attack-epa-to-outlaw-many-wood-burning-stoves/), I own draft horses and work the ground with them, and I would say I am just about as conservative as they come. I’m just tired of hearing Obama’s name, along with the others he holds dear, around every corner. I look at stories like this expecting not to hear the same old bad news, and yet it always comes up.

Your reply was, however, clever. Good day to you.

I was on vacation in Mexico, Baja, Sea of Cortez and was lucky to experience this. It was just two of us, in a small boat. We noticed what looked like a huge wave coming at us, but as it got near it was hundreds of dolphins. They were everywhere around us. Glad I was there.

I was told later they were herding fish.
