Meeting Between NRA and Joe Biden-Led Gun Task Force Didn’t Go Well

Meeting Between NRA and Joe Biden Led Gun Task Force Didnt Go Well

WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 10: U.S. Vice President Joe Biden makes brief remarks to the press after a meeting with Cabinet members and sportsmen’s, wildlife and gun interest groups at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building January 10, 2013 in Washington, DC. U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Biden to oversee a task force on gun violence and also was to meet with a representative of National Rifle Association (NRA) in a second day of meetings. The National Rifle Association on Thursday met with Vice President Joe Biden and the gun violence task force created by President Barack Obama to address gun-related violent crime. As you may have expected, the NRA and the Obama administration didn’t agree on much.

In a statement released shortly after Thursday’s meeting, the NRA said it was “disappointed with how little” the meeting “had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.” Read the entire statement below (emphasis added):

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again.  We attended today’s White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.  While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,†this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans.  It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems.  We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen.  Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

On Wednesday, the vice president hinted that Obama may take “executive action” to crack down on firearms.

Biden and the task force will reportedly submit a list of proposals to the president by Tuesday. After that, “president is going to act,” according to Biden.

Biden said that while he had not finalized his recommendations, a consensus was emerging over banning assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, as well as potentially implementing “universal background checks.” He said tightening background checks would include closing the so-called gun show loophole but also requiring background checks for all transactions, even private sales.

The president hopes to announce his administration’s next steps to tackle gun violence shortly after he is sworn in for a second term and has pledged to push for new measures in his State of the Union address.

This story may be updated with additional comments from Vice President Joe Biden.

They used the NRA meeting for PR. Everyday we are reminded that we are on course to doomsday. God be with us all against these oppressors. They started abroad without any of us even aware of it. Now they are coming here to tackle the last major obstacle. AMERICA. No one was watching as they enslaved Palestine, Iraq, Afganistan, Vietnam, S. Korea and so on. Now the proof is in the pudding

      EXACTLY !

They brought the NRA as a horse and pony show, that they are reaching ‘across the aisle’ but they had NO intention to listen.

Again, this is only to phase out a voting block. This ‘fight’ is an attempt to get rid of one more voting block by this administration. Not against weapons…

He has evidenced that over the years. e.g. The white, rifle bearing, bible thumpers in Pennsylvania during his ’08 run

And none of those things they listed would have stopped the CT shooting. He used regular hand guns without “high capacity” clips, he simply switched guns when he ran out of bullets. The guns were legally purchased and the owner was background checked and waited the waiting period, he stole them. None of these laws would have stopped this shooting.

As most of us on the blaze know, this was never about gun CONTROL anyway, just CONTROL. The left seeks to do this through fear mongering so people will give up liberty for security. I never will, I will keep my weapons, and defend my family, myself, and the constitution to my dying breath. They have people so afraid that in places that have open carry laws, people freak out when they see someone carrying a gun. Once fear rules the majority they will come for the guns. Little hitler is about to draw a line in the sand if he issues an executive order against the 2nd amendment and I fear that this will be the beginning of the next civil war. LOCK AND LOAD.

Did anyone expect them to listen. They have one goal and one goal only. Taking our guns. They cannot complete their agenda without it. All you have to do is look at history to see that. Those who try to convince themselves otherwise or that we can stop them in congress or end it with the next election, are simply refusing to look at the facts. The man isn’t even inaugurated into his second term and has begun the attack on us. It’s going to get bad, really bad and if you can’t see that then you are simply wearing blinders or are in denial. It’s here and it is happening. Heck we even have the former media mouthpiece of the Soviet Union telling us don’t give up your guns. They see it because they saw it happen and they know what is coming for us.

Trust me when I say this….this president wants an uprising by law abiding gun owners. He needs it because its the only way he can fulfill his agenda for the destruction of this great country. He needs a conflict between what he will call white racist gun owners who only own guns because of their bigotry and hate for the black man…he will try to make us out to be the bad guys that don’t care if children die…and the liberal media machine do his dirty work for him.

      You’ve got it right on.

And none of these proposals have anything to do with making children safer and everything to do with incrementally watering down the second amendment so that these leftis geeks can impose their will on the citizenry as they see fit without having to worry about an armed populace who can fight back if need be.

77% of all murders with guns can be attributed to ghetto or gang banger crime yet there has been absolutely zero suggestions as to what can be done to curb gun violence in the urban areas where it occurs mostly.

Obviousaly their aim is not to make society safer, because Britain has banned guns but has the highest crime rate in Europe. And Mexico has the strictest gun bans in the world, yet has had 57,000 murders in the last 6 years. These leftist pigs know that. Their obvious goal is disarmament, and only a fool would be unable to see that they’re only pretending to want to improve safety.

      It;’s time for civil war.

Get what you can while you can get it, warms, ammo, accessories. Tyranny is coming down the pike and it has all our names on it. May God protect us if we have to fight for our liberties.

“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government – lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.†– Patrick Henry

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson

“Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the people’s liberty teeth.†– George Washington

The founders knew the importance of the 2nd Amendment because they just finished fighting a war against tyranny. The Obama regime is reinstating that tyranny a little more every day. Those that pay no attention to this will be the slaves and peasents under the government boot.

Now wait a second. I just want to understand. The NRA is all about solutions to the problem of mass murder in the US. So here’s their solutions:

      - Put an armed guard in all schools. There were armed cops at Virginia State and at Columbine. There was a policemen right there when Jared Loughner killed six people and injured 12 others. That doesn’t work, sorry.

      - Focus our attention on violent video games and movies. I got news for you, other countries have those same games and watch the same movies, or worse.

      - Focus on preventing the mentally ill from getting guns. That’s a seriously make-believe proposal, given that the NRA is the first to oppose closing the “gun show loophole” which allows anyone, without a background check, to walk into a gun show and buy any gun at all from an unlicensed vendor, and, as sting videos have shown from a licensed vendor (see youtube).

And face it, who would be the first to complain if there were are national database for potentially violent offenders created? Answer: you.

Jared Loughner killed people until his 30 magazine ran dry, despite the presence of a policeman. Only then was he overpowered.

Sorry to burst your paranoid bubble, but nobody is going to “take your guns away” despite the ecstatic thrill that thought must give you Rambos. But limiting magazine capacities to 10 rounds is a possibility (although you can keep whatever you have). Larger magazines have only one purpose: to slaughter people.

Friends , I grew up in Worcester Mass. It is about 40 miles from Boston, Prividence, Hartford and was and is an immigrant city of about 350k. In my day we were all lower middle class and had grandparents or parents from the old county; you name it, italy, ireland, poland, lituania, Canada, Germany, Russia, Greece, Yougoslavia, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, etc…It was kind of like goodfellas meets Mayberry, no kidding , salt of the earth people but as tough as nails.
Most of our grandparents came to Worcester around 1910-1930, not because they wanted to, but because they were escaping tyranny and had no way to defend themselves.
One thing unique to Worcester is the squares; which are monuments set up at every cross roadall over the city to fallen soldiers of ww1, ww2, korea, viet nam, etc…At every street corner is a granite marker and plaque that has a name of the fallen that lived on that road and the name is the same as your current neighbors. If you ever drive through Worcester on i290 the exit ramps will say; Kelly Square, Brosnihan Square, etc… If you are not from Worcester it would be very confusing. Now these same people the squares were name for had parents or they themselves escaped genocides from their countries of origin.
I own weapons, not to brandish, or to hunt or even to target shoot. I am an American Veteran and i own the weapons for defense against tyranny.Could it happen here? No, not with citizens owning weapons.it wont happen here

      @SENDTHEMETEORS:

-Cops in schools. “He traded fire (that is, he drew fire) (EIO) with Harris for an extended period of time, during which Harris’s gun jammed… exchanged fire with the shooters a second time and helped begin the evacuation of students, all before the SWAT teams… arrived… They had dozens of IEDs, some of which detonated… And there were two of them… the deputy acted both bravely and prudently, and who knows how many lives he saved by engaging Harris.†So, actually, it does work. Also, it’s Virginia Polytechnic (Tech), not State.

Video games: many other countries have far more strict control of who can have these games.

The gun show loophole: I don’t particularly care if it is because I always buy from licensed vendors. However, note that the same people you worry about could buy a gun someone posted on craigslist in a private sale. Even if the seller does a background check with local police, they may still sell to a crazy person/criminal. Seung-Hui Cho (VT shooter) legally purchased guns from a vendor who performed a background check. The fact that he had been mentally adjudicated had not been entered into the FBI database by the State. Further, the FBI does NOT allow people without a FFL to contact their NICS system. Also, do you really think the criminal who sells stolen/smuggled weapons from the back of his car does background checks?

Who would complain about the creation of a database? of “violent offenders Such a sy

Armed guards won;t ensure 0 innocent deaths, but having them, will tend to reduce them.

Having ambulance does not prevent deaths, but it reduces them.
Having lifeboats drills does not prevent problems abandoning ship but it reduces them.

Keep it up Meteors & we’ll just have to dig out the book on logic& put the name to the logical fallacy you have committed.

If the cop near Loughner had shot at Loughner, he would have shot between 0 to 2 people before putting Loughner out of action. Sure the death toll would have been lower, but the cop would have been in hot water. Just like all the cops who get into hot water for being involved in a an accident during a hot pursuit.

This is happening because we don;t put people like Loughner to death. He is somewhat crazy. But is he crazy enough to not know right from wrong? I don’t think so.

Crazy is a jackal infected with rabies attacking a lion. I have seen a film of that. That is crazy & the lion knew it. It left the jackal alone. It knew that it was not normal behaviour and so did not kill the jackal. It could have very easily & did not. It knew something was up but could not quite put its’ paw on what that something was.

That’s a seriously make-believe proposal, given that the NRA is the first to oppose closing the “gun show loopholeâ€

That is about the only thing that I might agree about.

But Loughner nor Homes bought their guns from a gun show. Also if they had & the shows had to check, those to would have checked clean. Apparently psychiatrists or the system or relatives or friends do not want to commit people who require help.

I bet the parents of these men wished the had gone to a therapist with their sons. If they had a time machine & could choose a gun law or going to therapy, I bet they choose therapy. James Holmes just about killed a person at his apartment with homemade explosives & might have killed 6 to a dozen more in the ensuing fire. What gun law is going to stop that?

The gun law that says you must present an ID to purchase Acetone in small quantities & give a reason for buying it such as a home improvement project? That gun law

3 more points on guns shows With people being able to scan credit cards with their cellphones, it would be easier have Joe Schmoe run a background check. So tech has made that easier. So maybe it is not such a sticking point.

But HandGun Control InCORPORATED has always said any law that gets passed is merely a 1st step for more laws & eventual confiscation. Why would the NRA or anyone even deal with HCI or any politician they back? You shake hand with them on a deal & it is only good until the came back next month or next year for more. That is a problem & you own it. These people are on tape having said this as is Diane Feinstein (who also wants to control the internet).

Maybe the point of not having gun shows regulated is to keep you guessing. The left are the same people that want to tell you what light bulb to use, what showerhead, what toilet, what car, if you can have a car, if you can embark on a transoceanic voyage, if you can marry, how much you can weigh.

I got quotes for all of them except the voyage one. That one might be hard to find. Let’s just say they are worried about how much energy a person might expend.

Look guys, all this talk is great, but actions are called for.

      ORGANIZE!!

The TEA Party has the networks of local chapters in place, now use that network to organize your neighborhood defense plans.

      >Distribute maps with pre-planned primary and secondary rally-points around your area where patriots can gather and initiate defensive actions.

      >Identify roads/highways into and around your area, and identify choke-points and also identify and mark-out tactical firing positions to command bridges, crossroads, main highways, etc, with attention paid to how local police/NG stations and bases may be isolated and siege laid, if they should decide to side with the regime instead of obeying their oaths. Identify SWAT motorpools and armories, and form a tactical plan to deal with them.

      >Identify and make plans to take out police/government radio transmitters and repeaters as well as local cellphone towers and repeaters. A policeman without a radio is just a guy with a gun and bad fashion-sense.

      >Identify firing positions to command police helipads and NG helicopter and A-10 flightlines. it’s very hard to fuel, load, and arm an aircraft or helo while the helipad and/or flightline is under fire.

You’d BETTER do your homework here! You can bet that THEY have had both tactical and strategic plans laid out for decades, down to the individual building, for assaulting every city and region. If you just sit and wait for them to come and go out there with no plan, you’ll d

What I think is funny is the narcissistic attitude of this administration that they think that they are going to dictate to the American People what they think they “know” is best for us and that we are going to be sheep and follow the shepherd….too funny. Might I suggest before you pass a law that makes it a Federal crime to violate any of your insane new laws you might want to build more prisons first because you will need the space. Or you could let the real criminals out early as there will be alot of work for them to do with a citizenry that cannot defend itself. Call the police….oh please. Put an armed guard in all schools. There were armed cops at Virginia State and at Columbine. There was a policemen right there when Jared Loughner killed six people and injured 12 others. That doesn’t work, sorry.

Jared Loughner killed people until his 30 magazine ran dry, despite the presence of a policeman. Only then was he overpowered.
      ***
The Marine Barracks in Lebanon was bombed despite the fact that guards were posted. Thus using meteor/meatball logic we must conclude that posting gate guards is useless.

When police opened fired on & killed Jeffrey Johnson at the Empire State Building after he killed a former coworker in NYC, they wounded 9 people. That is the reason why the cop by Loughner did not open fire, when he could have. If he had fired fewer people would have got hurt but then a leftist like yourself would be screaming at the mayor & police chief.

You are the same type of person that criticizes police until they have ceased hot pursuits in many jurisdictions. So why would a police open fire or engage in hot pursuit of a felon? They open themselves up to getting sued.

He’s the administration’s “Trial Buffoon” just like the Executive Order idea he floated yesterday. It would be a perfect plan as it takes the heat off of Congress to avoid an unpleasant 1994 repeat in 2016. They might as well do it now that they have their “emergency”

Red states need to make it clear they will not cooperate. Congress will still have to address the issue as the House can force a vote and then the politicians can make it clear which side they’re on.

If you look at what happened with the start of the Tea Party and healthcare, part of the momentum waned because a lot of dolts don’t understand the immediate and long term impacts (everything seems theoretical) but the danger for the administration is this is a more concrete issue and they’re betting on the pensive soccer moms to rally on their behalf based on the emotional aspects of the Newtown tragedy (i.e. what if it were my children).

The media will put on a full court press to humiliate and shame gun owners to convince the dolts to further weaken the constitution.

They won’t have the police do it initially. They will have their goon squad of DHS civilian defense corps thugs do it for them. Nappy just announced that the first class of thugs have graduated from the training program. These thugs are being recruited from street gangs and juvenile delinquents. Some of them wouldn’t even be allowed to purchase a firearm and they’re giving them advanced tactical training and fully automatic weapons. Mao said that political power comes from the barrel of a gun and Stalin said that who votes doesn’t count, who counts the votes does. Obamao learned both of those lessons well. They are monitoring all of your emails, and any chat room you may be in, even ones that you think are on secure sites. They will harass and threaten you if they think you’re passing along information to other patriots that they don’t want them to know, EVEN IF IT IS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE THAT THE GOVERNMENT GIVES OUT FOR THE ASKING UNDER FOIA REQUESTS. Anyone want the phone number for the Dallas FBI Office? I got it from one of the agents that interrogated me for over 90 minutes over some information that I gave some other patriots. They admitted that the information was free government information but still threatened me if I gave it out again.

They have not tried on the illegals. For the guns, probably do an “in loco parentis” type stunt like the child protection agencies do. IRS calls you in for an audit, and while you’re out they serve a probable cause warrent on your empty house. The key for them is that the folks they are going after are by nature law abiding, it will take us a bit to adjust to the shifting reality. They will also change thier tactics as we adapt. Being on defense is problematic like that. When, not if, these things start to happen, just like they want to bring the fight to our homes, we will have to do the same if we intend to keep our nation. Here is the part that will not appeal to most law abiding citizens. Every person in a position of public service will have to understand that if they support this unconstitutional action, every person they hold dear will be forfit. They betrayed the public trust, they need to understand they will lose everything Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah lost when his sin was revealed after Jericho.

the problem with that essay is that there are too many gun owners for them to follow that lengthy a process. All you have to do is observe how they have conducted the war on drugs. Modeled after how they worked the prohibition fiasco. They will commit a series of “waco” type events to put the fear of the government in people to hand over their stuff. But, I see the people (hopefully) reacting in a different manner this go around. I see the the patriots taking action once the buzzer goes off. Instead of waiting for the swat raids, the fighting will be brought to the oppressors.

They bleed as well, you know, and tactical training or not, how many of them are there? More than there are gun owners in the US? Likely not.

The only way a tyrant can overthrow its people is to disarm them! Look at what happened in Russia during the Czars and what Lenin did….he disarmed the people. The Russians were the most armed people in the world during the Czars and Lenin disarmed the people in order overthrow the people…starved them….killed them…..LOOK AT HISTORY!

What does Jesus say, there is nothing new under the sun…

Yes, they are coming for the guns….progressively, over a short period of time. Like the lobster and the boiling pot. Drop a lobster in a pot of boiling water, and if it can, it will jump out. Drop a lobster in a pot of lukewarm water and ever soo slightly turn up the heat and before the lobster knows it, he’s cooked and so are we!

If this is true, then Glenn Beck just screwed up big time! The government is not going to arrest you for compliance, nor just because you ask them to, thus, if you voluntarily surrender, you’ve helped Gaybama accomplish his mission – period.

Glenn thinks that the government doesn’t have the places to hold 50,000,000 prisoners, and he’s right. But they won’t need such pens if you comply, and if you comply, might as well learn a new language – call it the Beck-bleet – Every time an edict drools from Capitol Hill, you respond with Bhahahahaa…..bhaahahaha….

I agree with you Woodyee. I posted on another article. If they arrest us, take our guns, then let us go, we are screwed. I will not give up my guns. The first time they come to my door I will ask them to leave and not come back. The second time I will ask them if this is worth dying over for THEM. It will come down to who is willing to die. I will not live as a slave. I am tired of giving effort, money and power to those who do not deserve it. I thought Glenn said, “I will not comply!”. Easy to say, harder to do.

So that they can honestly say that they participated in the process and that the process wasn’t interested in individual rights. If they hadn’t went, then gun owners would have been all over their @ss like honey on a bear’s maw. Now we have a clear conscious and if the “EO” illegally comes down saying “no more guns for you” we can defy it in good conscious, since we were denied a voice in the legal wrangling.

It’s what Communists do – they’ll put you in a no-win situation for show, having pre-planned long ago how to implement their goals while making it look like they had no other choice.

NRA no show – “They never came to the table, though we reached out to them.”
NRA shows up – “We’ll make proposals which are untenable to their principals, and then tell the people they were being unreasonable.”

Remember their coin phrases – it used to be “for the children”, and today the word is “sensible”.

Biden (in my opinion) doesn’t even realize he’s being used as the “fall guy” for Oby. No matter what happens in the end, one side or the other is going to go bat crazy against the decision along with the person who headed up the commitee. Oby’s just going to go through his whole “I have no knowlege” routine while Biden get’s lambbasted alive. (I kinda actually feel sorry for Biden having to take this on, and doesn’t realize what he’s in for.)

But face it. You are exactly correct that Biden will go with what ever Oby wants. And I feel we will see him turn on Oby when it comes close to the elections, because he has indicated running for President. I would hope if he feels he is Presidential material, that he is smart enough to understand that as heading up this gun control deal, he has signed his name to political suicide. No way can he come out of this without any other means but to retire after this term.

I’ve watched many of the talking heads discuss the current debate and found that most have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. They can’t define an assault weapon and they don’t understand that the laws and bans have done nothing to discourage criminals from doing their nasty deeds. Columbine happened while we had such an assault weapons ban. A rifle is a rifle and most simply are freaked out by the appearance. I would like to see some adults added to the conversation.
