Meeting Between NRA and Joe Biden-Led Gun Task Force Didn’t Go Well

WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 10: U.S. Vice President Joe Biden makes brief remarks to the press after a meeting with Cabinet members and sportsmen’s, wildlife and gun interest groups at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building January 10, 2013 in Washington, DC. U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Biden to oversee a task force on gun violence and also was to meet with a representative of National Rifle Association (NRA) in a second day of meetings. The National Rifle Association on Thursday met with Vice President Joe Biden and the gun violence task force created by President Barack Obama to address gun-related violent crime. As you may have expected, the NRA and the Obama administration didn’t agree on much.
In a statement released shortly after Thursday’s meeting, the NRA said it was “disappointed with how little” the meeting “had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.” Read the entire statement below (emphasis added):
The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today’s White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.
We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.
On Wednesday, the vice president hinted that Obama may take “executive action” to crack down on firearms.
Biden and the task force will reportedly submit a list of proposals to the president by Tuesday. After that, “president is going to act,” according to Biden.
Biden said that while he had not finalized his recommendations, a consensus was emerging over banning assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, as well as potentially implementing “universal background checks.” He said tightening background checks would include closing the so-called gun show loophole but also requiring background checks for all transactions, even private sales.
The president hopes to announce his administration’s next steps to tackle gun violence shortly after he is sworn in for a second term and has pledged to push for new measures in his State of the Union address.
This story may be updated with additional comments from Vice President Joe Biden.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:19pmWe live in a time where the politicians and the media run the country right or wrong mostly wrong. The “ONE’” speaks and the media glorifies his words propagandizes us constantly through TV and any media available. What I don’t understand it what is the medias ultimate agenda? They will not prosper under a totalitarian regime intact if any of them disagree they will be behind the wire with the patriots who they stabbed in the bad. And we all know what goes around comes around. Ah! yes sweet revenge. Way to late.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 12:54pmLook, folks! This has all been done before. Know your history and you know the play…
The Russians, during the reign of the Czars, were the most heavily armed peoples in the world. They openly carried weapons, even the women and children. It was a way of life…..sound familiar!?! Then Lenin disarmed the people after the Czars were killed and overthrown….starved millions, killed millions, on and on and on to a communist state.
Geraldo asked one of the Fox & Friends anchors this morning, “What, do you not trust your country?” Damn, I wish I was there, my response, which none of them gave — HELL NO! I don’t trust those who are in power in this country! He claimed those of us who know this is an opportunity to ban weapons…if not all together, slowly, progressively!
What was the story….oh, yea. Drop a lobster into a boiling pot, and if he can, he’ll jump out. Now, drop a lobster into a nice lukewarm pot and slowly, slowly turn up the heat, and before he knows it, he’s cooked!
And, so are we!!

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:59amI appreciate and value the efforts of the NRA to protect the second amendment, but they are trampling on the first amendment to do so. They are looking at the media in violent movies and video games. They want to protect gun ownership at a cost of freedom of expression and seem to be pushing for censorship. Instead, they should be pushing for gun training and CCW permits to be tax deductible or other training benefits so that more people will get proper training.
I have a few questions that might clear things up when Joe Bloe finds the answers – How many CCW permit holders have committed murder in the past 10 years nationwide? What percentage of violent crimes involving firearms are committed with legally purchased guns? What is 1+1? Unfortunately, his answer will be “give me your guns… now where’d I put ma beer”.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:03amIt makes no difference what the administration tries to do; they can’t enact it on executive order and therefore can’t enforce it legally.
……and if they try

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:02amThe democrats/liberals in this country would very much love to force a takeover and removal of all guns. As all know this would facilitate there move to a dictatorship. All parties would next be banned, then all elections. With the president now asking for armed guards for him and his daughters for the rest of his life it is obvious it’s ok for him to have guns because he is so afraid for his life, but no one else. If I was obammy I would be afraid also. He is pushing buttons on the wrong people in this country, and he should be afraid. If he goes much further I suspect that a civil war could easily follow. And as everyone knows, the military would not follow him as the military hates obammy. 1/2 of the people in this country are being pushed very hard, and I would expect a push back soon.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 10:59amIt’s abundantly clear they plan to outlaw 20/30 rnd mags because the manufacturers have stopped producing them. The word went out immediately after Sandy Hook to all the online and retail gun stores. The sooner we get rid of the rats in Washington the sooner we will get our country back.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 10:29amI just LOVE how the Obama administration wants to disarm the law abiding citizens of THIS country, while running guns to our enemies, including: the Muslim Brotherhood, the Libyan rebels, Fast and Furious. The hypocrisy is astounding! I tell my husband quite often that this would be an amazing story if we weren’t living through it!

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 9:58amEvery gun owner should be a NRA member but the leftist media has put such a stigma on being a member that most gun owners do not join. I think they (the NRA) would have had a better position in these “meetings” if they had 50 million members instead of 4.2 million.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 9:44amWho could have guessed the outcome of this meeting ? I imagine it went something like this:
Biden: “ Good afternoon gentlemen, welcome to our meeting. I wish you had brought a female representative today so I could grope her in the hallway”
NRA : “We look forward to a meaningful discussion about ideas on how to reduce gun violence and improve school safety”
Biden: “ Please refer to the sheet in front of you, it includes all the gun control actions that we will push through next week. We don’t have time to wait for Congress, so Obama will just start issuing Executive Orders ASAP. Thank you for attending. Don’t let the door hit you on the *ss on the way out?”
NRA : “WTF ?”

At a campaign event in Lebanon, Virginia in 2008, then-Senator Barack Obama said that he will not take Americans’ guns away.
“When you all go home and you’re talking to your buddies and you say, ah ‘He wants to take my gun away.’ You’ve heard it here, I’m on television so everybody knows it. I believe in the Second Amendment. I believe in people’s lawful right to bear arms. I will not take your shotgun away. I will not take your rifle away. I won’t take your handgun away.”
Let’s see what he proposes now.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 9:24amThis entire gun control stuff is nothing more than smoke and mirrors, let’s face it, they aren’t going to be so dumb to try and confiscate any weapons and for sure they don’t have any plans on how to curb any violence. Again, if they, the governmemt is serious, then they need to turn in all the weapons at the White House, the weapons used by the body guards and the Secret Service, all the personal firearms, etc.and then we can move forward but, see, they won’t because it’s ok for them to have the weapons but nobody else. This is not a serious debate, it’s nothing more than political gamesmanship.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 9:21amBiden & Obama only want to use this meeting to say, “look we included thoughts from the NRA”. Remember, everything they do is politically motivated. This little show was nothing more than that – a show. They already have a plan of attack. The NRA had no choice but to attend the meeting and they did the best thing they could do in letting everyone know what a farce it was.
Biden, Obama, Holder, etc have no regard for the Constitution and will attempt to proceed accordingly. Obama will try to do whatever he and his cronies want regardless of previous promises.
Hypocrisy at it’s finest, Obama in 2008 speech….

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 8:59amLadies and Gentlemen;
Never before in the history of these United States have we been confronted with the extreme possibility of our elected officials taking away our freedoms solely based on the actions of a handful of mentally deranged people. Clearly, their agenda is being hindered by our right to bear arms since that right was established to protect all of our other rights. What ever our POS POTUS decides to do, it will not be legal or lawful, nor will it benefit anyone other than the left wing socialists who are out to destroy our Constitution and our country. Be prepared to step out of our comfort zones and do what our fore fathers did once before. Sic Semper Tyrannus. Thus always to tyrants.
God Bless America.
