‘How Dare You’: Conservative Author Confronts Piers Morgan on Exploiting Newtown, Hands Him a Constitution in Tense Interview

CNN
Conservative author and Breitbart editor-at-large Ben Shapiro on Thursday accused CNN’s Piers Morgan of “standing on the graves of the children” who died in Newtown, Conn. in his opposition to guns.
“Honestly Piers, you’ve kind of been a bully on this issue,” Shapiro said on “Piers Morgan Tonight.” “You tend to demonize people who differ from you politically by standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook, saying they don’t seem to care enough about the dead kids, if they cared more about the dead kids they would agree with you on policy.”
Morgan, who has been at the forefront of the anti-gun argument on his show, reacted with outrage, repeatedly asking Shapiro, “How dare you?”
“How dare you accuse me of standing on the graves of children that died there, how dare you?” he asked.
“I’ve seen you do it repeatedly, Piers,” Shapiro said.
“Like I say, how dare you,” Morgan repeated.
“Well, I mean, you can keep saying that, but you’ve done it repeatedly,” Shapiro replied. “What you do, and I’ve seen you do it on your program, is you keep saying to folks if they disagree with you politically, then somehow this is a violation of what happened in Sandy Hook.”
Then, taking out a pocket-sized Constitution, Shapiro handed it to Morgan and said he’d like to hear his policy ideas for guns.
“I’ve brought this here for you so you can read it,” he said. “I would really like for you to explain to me what you would do about guns that would have prevented what happened at Sandy Hook.”
Morgan responded that he would like to do the same thing that Mark Kelly, husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, would like to do, which is take away assault weapons. Shapiro pointed out that the majority of gun deaths in United States are caused by handguns, prompting Morgan to run down the recent shootings in Newtown, the Aurora movie theater, the Oregon shopping mall and in New York with the firefighters around Christmas, asking which weapons were used.
“The last four mass shootings in America were with assault rifles…that’s the reason, Mr. Shapiro,” Morgan said. “You can smirk at me and you can laugh at me, and you can accuse me of standing on the graves of dead children, but that’s the reason that people like me and Mark Kelly and Gabrielle Giffords want to have assault weapons like that removed from civilian hands.”
Shapiro responded that Morgan’s “passion on the issue doesn’t really justify the rationale for why you want to ban assault weapons.”

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:25amWow, Shapiro owned him. I only wish that he hadn’t let Piers put him in a position where he felt obligated to explain why people would need an “assault weapon.” While his response was a good one, it’s really none of Piers’ or the government’s business why we might “need” an assault weapon. That is irrelevant. The government shouldn’t be able to ban something just because of a perceived lack of need for it. Do you need a fancy watch to tell time? No. Does that mean the government should be able to ban them? Absolutely not.

Like a typical liberal, he wants to “feel better” about a tragedy. In reality it’s merely pushing a political agenda. This is a must see for both sides of the issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbY1whAjGls

Should they be limited to defend themselves with hand guns? How about the Koreans defending their property against the mobs after the Rodney King beating should they have been limited to handgun against hundreds of people? The reasons may be limited but they do exist in this day and age and as you stated WE THE PEOPLE are not required to defend the need for everything we buy you can’t take away my right because someone else has disobeyed the law, WHAT HAPPENED TO DUE PROCESS?

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 12:50pm“The last four mass shootings in America were with assault rifles…” First off, they weren’t. They look like assault riffles but by definition, an assault rifle is full auto and none of these rifles were. Second, when “the last four mass shootings in America” are with a semi-automatic pistol, are you going to ban those as well? I know, I know. “You can’t have a ‘mass’ shooting with a pistol,” right? WRONG. You can take out a lot of folks with a couple of .38 six shooters. Certainly 6 or 7 which would be considered a “mass” shooting. But then again, perhaps Morgan wouldn’t think of this as a big deal.

The court held that the San Jose police were not liable for ignoring Mrs. Brunell’s pleas for help. Hartzler v. City of San Jose, 46 Cal. App. 3d 6 1st Dist. 1975
Riss v. New York, 240 N.E.2d 860 N.Y. 1968

Moreover, Zinermon v. Burch 110 S.Ct. 975, 984 1990
all the aforementioned cases resulted in the death
Constitutional duties of care and protection only exist as to certain individuals, such as incarcerated prisoners, involuntarily committed mental patients and others restrained against their will and therefore unable to protect themselves.
Neither a public entity or a public employee [may be sued] for failure to provide adequate police protection or service, failure to prevent the commission of crimes and failure to apprehend criminals.
In other words this means the only people the police are duty-bound to protect are criminals in custody, and other persons in custody for such things as mental disorders. YOU have no recourse if the police fail to respond or fail to protect you from injury

SHAPIRO: It could come from the United States, because governments have gone tyrannical before, Piers.
MORGAN: Do you know how absurd you sound?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following is why Tyranny will come from our “Government”
“When the Federal Reserve Act was passed, the people of these United States did not perceive that a world banking system was being set up here. A super-state controlled by international bankers and international industrialists acting together to enslave the world for their own pleasure. Every effort has been made by the Fed (Reserve) to conceal its powers but the truth is — the Fed has usurped the government!”
Congressman Louis McFadden, Chairman of House Comm. on Banking and Currency from 1920 to 1931
(Eventually Poisoned to death)
“The real truth of the matter is that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government since the days of Andrew Jackson.”
– President FD Roosevelt
“Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this INVISIBLE GOVERNMENT, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of today.”
Assault rifles are fully automatic and already have a total 100% ban to civilians, an AR-15 available to the public is not. I can take a Ruger 10/22 and make it look like a fully auto Assault Rifle but it’s not!! PM’s argument is philosophically obtuse and incorrect on so many levels it’s sickening and frustrating. I bet if you put 10 pics of the same semi auto rifle in front of PM each with a different stock and platform, ol’ numb nuts would say the one dress up with the tactical platform would be the assault weapon..
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 5:43pmVery well said. Every conservative who appears on television to debate liberals on gun control need to say the following when asked about people’s “need” to have AR-15s and 10 round or more magazines (I’m paraphrasing Mark Levin here, but many thanks to him): The Bill of Rights is just that, the Bill of Rights. It’s not the Bill of Needs. The day our government gets to tell us the citizenry what we need and don’t need is the day we have what Shapiro laid out: Tyranny. Apparently Piers Morgan is too naive to believe that would ever happen. His is a pre-1939 mentality.
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 7:01pmA poster on another sight put forward tis letter by a US Marine. It must be said that US Marines write very good letters; is that one basis for selection?
“Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force.
Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunken guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender.
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 7:56pmA government becomming “tyrannical” is self-evident. Read history!
Here is a story which winds its way to our current Pres and his views on gun ownership.
Enter one Morio L. Billings (arrestad at least 6 times in 2003):
On the night of Dec 29, 2003, Billings (AWOL from the Army, and seeking items to sell for crack) parked his stolen BMW X5 SUV a short distance from a home he had “hit” the night before. Using the keys from the same house broken into the night before, Billings went inside. Awakened by his burglar alarm at 10:30 pm, Hale DeMar, 54,grabbed his .38 and went downstairs.
DeMar had not had time to change the locks, btw.
DeMars went downstairs, saw a man in his darkened family room and fired 2 shots, hitting Billings, who was masked, in an arm and a leg. Though DeMars actions were labeled self-def – he had an expired firearm ID card, and was fined.
Later, DeMars was arrested and charged with misdemeanor violations for shooting a burglar who had broken into his hom two consecutive nights…..and, stolen his SUV! The charges were dropped.
The Ill Sen. passed SB 2165 (38y-20n) in response to DeMar’s case, asserting a homeowner with the right to defend against a home invasion.
ENTER Barack Obama: He was one of the 20 to vote “n”. Gov Rod Blagojevich vetoed the bill.
On Nov, 9, 2004, the Illinois Senate voted (40-18) to override Blago’s veto.
Barack Obama was one of the 18 who voted to “not” override the corrupt gov’s veto!
Posted on January 12, 2013 at 4:55pmLove Shapiro but frankly Morgan made his arguments look weak and timid. He should go through public speaking/debating training. Conservatives will never change minds or enlighten while on the defensive. Especially with cocky, hypocrites like Morgan. He uses the same old tactics all the progressives use, he targeted and name called. He put up smoke and mirrors to Shapiro’s arguments (totally progressive/union/thug tactics) and kept Shapiro on the defensive throughout the entire “interview”.
He should have never responded or given Morgan time to site the four most recent killings. He started to rebut with the number of deaths by handguns each year, but let Morgan talk over him, and he never went back at him.
He had his chance to put Morgan in his place and leave him grasping for answers if he would have simply asked Morgan what his real end game is to banning “assault” weapons. (By the way, isn’t every weapon meant to assault?) Because if saving children is the real agenda, we cannot ignore the face that Chicago had close to 500 people shot to death in 2012. If saving children is the real agenda we cannot ignore that that millions of pre-birth infants have been aborted. So Piers, why are you not bullying those who want abortions?
Caution! When debating with a progressive NEVER, EVER answer their agenda-packed questions with facts. You must respond by asking a related question that will highlight their hypocrisy bring the bully’s agenda to light.
Posted on January 12, 2013 at 6:11pmI have a very simple solution for banning guns, Piers. If you’d like to ban rifles, hand guns, etc… then here’s what you do Mr Morgan. Decree that, “there shall be no hand guns, rifles or armed personnel of any kind in and around the home. We will put bars in the windows and a steel reinforced door to keep out the bad guys.” Build a panic room or whatever else you choose to create to keep you safe from the bad guys who do have gun.
Our solution? Its of our concern and none of your damn business.
Posted on January 13, 2013 at 9:37pmYeah, that’s absurd to think a government would never become tyrannical. Governments never do wrong. They never start wars, never any drone strikes on innocent people, never force some to be sterilized, always treated minorities with equality, never tested drugs on people then had prostitutes sleep with them, never tested mind control on mentally ill people.
Why worry?
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:24amIt boggles my mind that some people don’t believe there is a possibility that someday the government could usurp our rights and become a tyrannical government. It has happened over and over. Are they not paying attention? Do they not realize how much has been quietly changed? American citizens suspected of being terrorists can now be detained indefinitly without due process: not just suspected terrorists from other countries; but American citizens, not just on the battlefield, but on American soil. We are slipping and sliding towards tyranny at an extremely fast pace
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:46amTell me abut it. I have tried over and over again to explain this fact to my younger sister. Otherwise she is very intelligent but when it comes to gun ownership her IQ drops to that of a 5 yer old. She uses that stupid question, “How many bullets do you need to kill a deer?” I turn round and ask her if she seriously thinks the founding fathers added the 2nd amendment because they wanted to protect their right to hunt. I force her to remember what they just went through. Who did they just fight to break away from. Then I tell her we need those guns for the reason the founding fathers intended. To allow us the ability to rise up against our government should it ever become tyrannical and threaten our liberty. She can’t imagine that happening today. It keeps blowing my mind.
Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:39pm@Effer-I must admit I was a little behind the 8-ball on that belief UNTIL I began to read books on the holocaust. Each one I read started with a backstory,a few prior, to explain how the government little by little took rights away. Even after they were rounded up and made to move into the ghettos, even as some of the Jews and aliens were being deported even as stories were being told of what was happening-they stayed. Why? Because they didn’t believe it could actually happen. Many Jews had a chance to escape before taken to the trains, even weeks before, and they didn’t do it even as every fiber of their body was telling them too they stayed and they died horrible deaths. Peirs Morgan is an idiot and making false statements he knows damn well what can and will happen!—sorry got a rant!
Something is Wrong
Posted on January 13, 2013 at 8:12amSeriously people! There is no point arguing about what is or isn’t an assault weapon, what should and shouldn’t be banned, or what laws should and shouldn’t be passed. These things all only treat symptoms and not a single one of them will really solve anything at all. The arguments about “the Second Amendment isn’t for hunting” do nothing but waste time and divert attention away from the actual solution that NOBODY is talking about. The real solution to it all is getting rid of the National Guard Act of 1903.
You want the people to take back control of the nation from the government?
Get rid of the National Guard Act of 1903!
You want to end every effort to take away firearms?
Get rid of the National Guard Act of 1903!
You want to stop getting involved in wars that the people of the US do not support?
Get rid of the National Guard Act of 1903!
You want to strengthen the Constitution and restore the Second Amendment as it was in the beginning?
Get rid of the National Guard Act of 1903!
It was the first big Progressive law passed and is the foundation to every Progressive law that has followed it. You knock out the foundation and it’s only a matter of time before everything else follows. This was Teddy Roosevelt’s baby and the first thing he tried to get passed as soon as he became President (note that this is the same Teddy Roosevelt that ran for President under the Progressive Party ticket). The National Guard Act of 1903 needs to go!!!
It’s the removal of God from everything so there is little to no accountability or remorse.
Apparently Morgan still can’t grasp the vulgarity of an Englishman- who makes a living in the United States no less- denigrating the Constitution and laughing at the purpose of the Second Amendment. Let me put it in these terms…having just won a war against the British and understanding the necessity of a population prepared to resist against a tyrannical government-both foreign and domestic- the brilliant forefathers of this great nation gave Americans the right to bear arms and the government to never infringe on that right. It’s not for hunting, it’s not for sport..it’s for a defense against those that would usurp power for themselves. And now here’s Morgan..an Englishman…telling Americans they’re idiots that they should never expect a government to turn on them and they should tear up the constitution (their “little book), starting with the second amendment. Piers Morgan….the same guy who abused his fellow Brittons’ rights by illegally obtaining information from them. Nice guy huh?
Breitbart-schooled Shapiro put it brilliantly to Morgan…”my grandparents are ashes in Europe because they didn’t believe a government could be usurpatious”. Sanctimonious posturing from Pierre. It’s reassuring to see Andrew “happy warrior” Breitbart has left behind such capable young people to carry on his legacy. They get it..they understand the left and we should learn
Pierre seems to believe that governments can never turn on their people..while Bashar Assad carries on daddy’s legacy in Syria as we speak. While knowing that Oliver Cromwell (who had successfully overthrown the British monarchy in a civil war for it’s own tyranny and executed Charles I ) abused the Scots and the Irish. While we all see Morgan in the midst of a scandal himself where he spit on the rights of his fellow Brittons by illegally obtaining information from them.
Breitbart’s Shapiro put it beautifully to Morgan….”my grandparents are ashes in Europe because they didn’t believe a government could be usurpatious”. He has some extremely wacked out conspiracy theories and notions that lack sense (outside the realms of fiction novels). His style is exceptionally confrontational, and makes him appear unhinged and borderline psychotic. He also never seems to dress professionally, always with open shirt collar even in professional settings. He comes off more suited to screaming about hellfire and damnation, in the hands of an angry God. This doesn’t mean he is always wrong, that all his ideas are off kilter. The problem is that his style and presentation delivery can have the effect of framing all his ideas as crazy. Compare Shapiro’s appearance to Jones. Posted on January 11, 2013 at 4:18pmSOY if you can’t see why Pierre invited Jones onto his sagging show you’re a fool.
It was intentional and tailored for a number things..none of them to address this debate in a credible way. Jones was invited on because of his incidiary rhetoric and his outrageous style. This was so that the “moderate” viewer of CNN could see the “rabid” gun owner advocate and instill in his head that all gun owners must be like Jones…therefore, we need to do what Pierre says. The other of course as a business move. Pierre’s show is falling faster than MONICNE’s apron belly. So he’s riding high on all the controversy..the petitions to remove him from the country, the “your an idiot” remarks, etc. Pierre is salivating for another Sandy Hook incident.
Shapiro nailed him and you could see Pierre didn’t like it when he said that Pierre is standing on the graves of the children. What foundation does Pierre have to talk about what rights Americans should have after he defecated on his fellow Brittons’ rights by obtaining information from them illegally?
Jones was on his show to make gun owners look like rabid, unhinged zealots. Start understanding the lefty mind..they use images not facts to influence minds. This is why Obama is using Dr King’s bible for his second inauguration. Or why Obama had lab coats handed out to medical workers during the Obamacare photo ops. This is classic Soviet style manipulation and lefties lap it up like hyenas.
The Aurora killer used a shot gun hence the reason for multiple gun shot wounds oh and didn’t he also use some explosive devices that injured people smoke grenades or something like that? Sean asked Juan what would be his suggestion to prevent killings like this from happening, of course Juan said to ban assault rifles. Megan said, banning assault rifles would NOT have prevented the killings because the children were not killed by an assault rifle, it was found in the trunk of the vehicle that Adam Lanza was driving. I’m not doubting that fact, but my question is why was the media saying that there were .223 casings everywhere and the children died from .223? If Adam didn’t even shoot his moms AR then who in the hell shot those kids WITH a .223?? This story smells as fishy as F&F and Benghazi.
These “assault rifles” are less of a common factor than Ritalin, violent video games, gun free zones or clear mental illness but those factors are not a threat to those in power. Surely the founding fathers could have never imagined a day when the 3 branches of government and the press would conspire to seize power.
