Is Gay Behavior a Sin? This Is Where the American People Stand on the Morality of Homosexuality
It’s one thing to ask Americans if they believe that gay marriage should be legal, but it’s an entirely different matter to ask if acting out on same-sex attraction is sinful. With opinions continuously evolving on the matter, it seems the public has become more accepting of same-sex unions — but what about the purported moral issues associated with homosexuality?

LifeWay Research conducted a survey back in November — the results of which were released on Thursday. The organization asked respondents, “Do you believe homosexual behavior is a sin?” Forty-five percent of the American public said that it is not, with 37 percent answering affirmatively, and an additional 17 percent saying that it did not know which side to select.
These findings paint a starkly different picture when compared to the results from the same question that was asked by LifeWay in its 2011 survey. At that point, 44 percent believed that homosexuality was sinful and 43 did not, with an additional 13 percent stating that they were unsure.

Naturally, one of the big questions surrounds why such a major change was observed in just a year’s time. According to Ed Stetzer, president of LifeWay Research, President Barack Obama’s change-of-heart on gay marriage in the middle of the 2012 election cycle may have played a role in overall societal change.
“The president’s evolution on homosexuality probably impacted the evolution of cultural values – there is a real and substantive shift, surprisingly large for a one-year time-frame – though this was hardly a normal year on this issue,” Stetzer noted in a press release advertising the organization’s results.
Born-again Christians and evangelicals (73 percent) and those who attend church at least once per week (61 percent) were found in the 2012 results to be most likely to believe that homosexuality is a sin. Also, those residing in the South were also more likely to answer “yes.” Among Americans who never attend church, 71 percent do not believe that gay behaviors are sinful.

When it comes to the legality of gay marriage, the nation also seems to be changing its views. In May 2012, just days before Obama made his endorsement of gay marriage, 50 percent of the public told Gallup they supported same-sex marriage, with 48 percent saying they did not.
Another poll conducted by CBS News well after the president’s proclamation found that 51 percent agreed with gay marriage, with 40 percent claiming that they did not. With demographics changing and with perceptions transitioning, there’s no telling what the 2013 data will look like.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:43amIf you want to know whether something is a sin, you don’t ask sinners. You ask God. Asking sinners of something is a sin is like asking Obama if entitlement spending is wrong.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:42amPersonally, I think there is a better way than taking a poll to find out if homosexuality is a sin. I mean, just ask God. See what He has to say about it. Right? (can of worms opens …)

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:40amThe Law of Unintended Consequences hasn’t been repealed.
It is a demonstrable fact that male-to-male sex is the single biggest spreader of AIDS.
America spends $billions to prevent or cure AIDS.
America teaches impressionable boys that male-to-male sex is normal and acceptable behavior.
So, why shouldn’t boys give it a try?
America spends more $billions to prevent or cure AIDS..

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:33amIf you believe as I do that God exists and He is the creator of our world then you would know that homosexuality is against His wishes. It’s unnatural, otherwise there would be no children. If a person chooses to act in this unnatural way he/she is thumbing their nose at God. I pray for people that do this.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:33amHomosexuality is a name to give a reason for just wanting to do what you want. Straight men meet in parks with other men, men in jail go with other men and people who really do not want to get pregnant do it with whoever. sooner or later homosexuality will be dropped and people will engage with whoever, what ever, when ever…too bad

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:25amThe question really should be ‘Do you believe in the God of Abraham’? Because IF you do and are unclear to whether or not this is a ‘sin’ then read your bible. IF you don’t believe then of course it’s not a ‘sin’ and it’s just two people loving each other.
Personally I believe in Yahweh, the God of Abraham, and am saddened by the homosexual lifestyle. I am in the music industry and have seen first hand what this lifestyle brings to most and the destruction it brings. This does not mean that I don’t love the people, I just don’t condone the lifestyle. Sadly this lifestyle is rooted in much more than we see with our eyes. Who’s sole purpose is to bring destruction to our lives through lies and deceit? And those lies are trying desperately to convince the world that this behavior is acceptable and that you and I should be ok with it. Sorry I’m not gonna buy into that lie.

Is Gay Behavior a Sin? YES……
The Baby Jesus said don’t put that in your mouth on more than once…..
Romans 1:27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Genesis 19:5 They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”
Leviticus 20:13 “‘If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:23amOk, first of all… they do internet polls to find their data. These are notoriously unreliable. Who visits their website? Who responds? What are the controls?
Second of all, homosexual behavior is definitely a sin. As the poll is supposed to reflect “the adult population of the US,” which includes about 30% non-Christians who have no concept of sin, that skews the results.
Long story short: a poorly regulated poll by a biased group polling an incorrect section of the country.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:23amMy Catholic upbringing teaching that yes, it is a sin and after all, it is unnatural, you need a male and female to have children (and forget science, we are talking about natural processes) so being gay is a matter of personal choice. Gays are not “Born that way” as GaGa claims, if they are born that way, that means nature (or God) sees a problem with that genetic line and is killing off that line by having those persons engage in a lifestyle that will end in them not having children for the most part without unnatural (scientific intervention) methods.
Being a Catholic and believing that it is a sin, that is for my own life and personal view and being, I’m not going to call someone a sinner and say “your going to hell” because they are gay, its their choice, like stealing all their life or killing, those are sins and the person commits them of their own free will. In the end, they will be judged, but I’m not going to judge.
I have many friends who are guy and they are nice, normal, trustworthy and good people, same with atheists I know. I don’t hold their views against them, nor mine against me, I don’t push my religion on them and they don’t on me. However I take issue with those who are gay and choose to dress disgusting, do these gay parades doing obscene things, whether straight, gay or celibate there is no place for such vulgar displays. Same with atheists, if you want to observer winter solstice instead of Chistmas, great, but don’t attack re

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:20am“Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6)

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:19amYes, the Bible is very clear that homosexuality is a ‘sin and an abomination in the eyes of the Lord’. But we are also advised to “love the sinner, hate the sin”. I don’t wish any gay people harm, but I do pray that they can find their way back to the right path. Yes, I have gay friends – male and female – and I don’t sermonize to them. They are welcome in my home, but I will not tell them that I believe they are right in what they do. That being said, I think it’s a shame that, for many people, love and understanding is hard to find, and they must look in their own gender to find proper, respectful treatment.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 11:19amDoes not matter in the cosmic and eternal order what I think. What matters is what does God think. I am but His creation and have no right to pass judgment on His laws.
His law clearly says that homosexual conduct is an abomination and totally unacceptable to Him.
Woe to our nation that has made homosexual conduct chic and adultery a spectator sport!
