U.S. Job Openings Showed Little Growth in November

U.S. employers advertised about the same number of jobs in November as in October.

Job openings ticked up 11,000 last month to 3.67 million, the Labor Department said Thursday. That’s about 12 percent more than were advertised in the same month a year ago.

More than 12 million people were unemployed in November. That means there were 3.3 unemployed people, on average, competing for each open job. That’s the lowest ratio since November 2008.

Still, in a healthy economy, the ratio is roughly 2 to 1.

Separately, the Labor Department said the number of people seeking unemployment aid increased last week, ticking up 4,000 to a seasonally adjusted 371,000. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, rose after falling to a four-year low the previous week.

Overall hiring was largely unchanged in November, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS. Companies hired 4.3 million people, just 3,000 more than in October. Layoffs ticked down to nearly 1.7 million, 10,000 below October’s number.

The number of people who quit their jobs rose, but was little changed compared to this summer.

Job openings rose in retail and hotels and restaurants, which likely reflect holiday-related gains. Openings ticked down in construction and manufacturing.

Employers added 161,000 jobs in November and 155,000 in December, according to the government employment report released Friday. The unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent in December. It fell to that level in November from 7.9 percent in October.

Thursday’s JOLTS report looks at total hiring, layoffs and quits. The report released Friday measured net hiring and unemployment.

The JOLTs report suggests that employers didn’t step up layoffs or cut back on hiring in the midst of the debate over the tax and spending changes known as the fiscal cliff, which is probably a good thing considering more budget showdowns are expected.

Congress must vote to raise the government’s $16.4 trillion borrowing limit by around late February. If not, the government risks defaulting on its debt.

How can we really know what numbers are correct? We can’t.
    Judge the economy by:
How many people are fleeing your state or moving into it.
How well food pantries are stocked? Are the donations up or down? Long lines?
    Homelessness. Shelters packed?
    Bank Robberies and theft.
Do people even leave their drive-ways to go to work anymore? Or are all the cars parked in the driveway all the time?
Are job fairs turning people away for packed capacity?
How long are the lines for section 8 government housing once announcements for applications go out to the public?
Are state agencies packed with people applying for government aid?
Do you see people paying with cash/bank cards more than WIC/food stamp debit card/EBT or the other way around?
If you sold any heavy equipment or a used diesel/gas guzzler truck, how long would it take to sell?
Are banks in your area like BOA and Chase busy on Fridays and Saturdays with endless lines in the drive-thru and in the lobby? Not in my neighborhood. Not anymore. They look like ghost towns, because no one is working!!!
These are just a few clues telling me how the real-life economy is running.
I don’t buy any numbers coming from the government anymore. It’s just a liar’s game and con.

Yes…with millions upon millions unemployed the obama economy managed to squeeze out two jobs for the masses.
    1) Help wanted……a personal drug handler for president obama. Person must go into black neighborhoods and score some crack for the prez, bring a few rocks to the White House blue room for obama to partake. Of course…if you get caught we will deny any knowledge of you.
2)Help wanted…….two ex-members of the Watusi tribe to testify that obama and michelle both are members of the tribe and down with the struggle.

    No white people need apply.

    Does it?

I thought the service on the debt was paid first? Or did I hear wrong? What exactly keeps being financed if they don’t raise the limit? Military, essential services, and debt interest right? Sounds like we have found a way to balance the budget if that is the case, right?

That’s why we need more Blueshirts to guard government schools and reduce unemployables’ unemployment. To professionalize they must federalize then unionize. Oba Lincoln killed the union to save the Union.
