Viral Vid of the Day: Man Releases Mouse Into the Wild…Only to See It Snatched By a Hawk Seconds Later

It seemed to be an intrusive mouse’s lucky day. The man whose bunk the mouse chose to frequent regularly captured it live in a trash can and set it free outside, saving it from death should he have used a more traditional mouse trap.

The mouse’s freedom — after escaping from the dirty trash can — was brief, though. He didn’t even make it a 100 yards from his kind capture before being promptly snatched by a hawk.

And then… (Image: YouTube screenshot)

“Oh no!” (Image: YouTube screenshot)

The footage of the unfortunate turn of events posted on Reddit with the title “guy at my school attempting to release a mouse into the wild” shows the kindhearted friend in military fatigues, suggesting he might attend a military academy.

He sweetly coaxes the mouse out of the can: “come on little buddy.” And even wishes him “good luck.”

Since we know what’s coming, the next line only adds salt to the wound. His friend filming asks “how do you feel kiddo?”

“I feel relieved,” the man said, “that he’s not going to wake me up in my bed anymore, crawling on my leg. But sad, you know, I just got to know him. And, uh … oh no.

“Oh nooo! Nooo! Are you kidding me? He didn’t last five minutes. I’m a terrible person. Oh, my gosh, let’s get out of here.”

The mouse can’t really catch a break — and it was all caught on film.

Check it out:

Of course, there is always the potential with computer graphics imagery that such a scene could have been faked (like the recent viral video that made it look like an eagle swooped down and picked up a child, which turned out to be the work of film students). Let us know if you think this video is real by taking our poll.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they knew the hawk frequented the area and let the mouse go in hopes of getting such a video. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it was totally by accident.

This story reminds me when Sean Hannity gave one of his radio show’s co-workers a Maine Lobster for a gift. The lobster comes alive and apparently she felt bad for the lobster and didn’t believe in killing/cooking food. She proceeded to take the lobster to the water’s edge and “freed” him. Mr. Hannity pointed out that she left the rubber bands on his claws and put him in fresh water ensuring that he would die a slow painful death instead of the quick one by being cooked.

The guy in the video is not a bad person. No I am because this made me laugh. (Not because the mouse died but because of the irony of the situation.) I’m a bad bad person! I guess hawks have to eat too.

Ecologically minded people gave great fondness for nature – except the food chain. Most of them don’t understand the nature they want to “protect”. One of the founders of the Sierra Club has been unhappy at how his group got hijacked by young rich kids rebelling against their (business minded) parents. The founders didn’t just “value” nature, they knew it, and lived, worked, played out there. Nature isn’t wilderness unless you are separated from it. In the early days of man, it was home.

The Hawk, it’s where Obama wants to be…..

AKA Darwinism…. the mouse was doomed when he fell in a trash can…. God wanted him, and he got him….

    RIP.

This is what you must know:

That hawk reminds me of Obama sinking his talons into the Tea Party.

    It is so.

A friend, a retired Nun, who is an avid animal lover, birds and rabbits, found mice were getting into her “feed room.” Being the animal lover that she is, she trapped the little critters, mice, and brought them out to a wood pile near her animal barn. She let the mice go, thinking she was doing them a huge kindness. One day she was bringing one of her “rescued” mice to the wood pile. And there waiting for her, its tongue flicking in anticipation, was a huge black snake. I guess he figured out the “free the mouse schedule” and was taking advantage of the dear Sister’s huge kindness for a tasty morsel…a mouse. I’m not sure of Sister saved any more mice for the snake.

Reminds me of a story where an elementary school class nursed an injured bird back to health only to have a hawk swoop down and snatch as it was released.

I don’t think they had grief counselors then.

When stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany in 1993 I bought 3 mice from a pet store in Bitburg. Was told they were all males. Well.. 3 months later I had 96 mice. I had to take them out into the forest and release them just like this guy did. I’m sure they didn’t make it through the night.

Funnysad video, but Blaze, I think you need to re-evaluate when to use the word viral. 16k views does not a viral video make.

all I know is that if we didn’t have hawks that mouse would still be alive…..
we should ban hawks… make them illegal so to protect the innocent mouse
