Viral Vid of the Day: Man Releases Mouse Into the Wild…Only to See It Snatched By a Hawk Seconds Later
It seemed to be an intrusive mouse’s lucky day. The man whose bunk the mouse chose to frequent regularly captured it live in a trash can and set it free outside, saving it from death should he have used a more traditional mouse trap.

The mouse’s freedom — after escaping from the dirty trash can — was brief, though. He didn’t even make it a 100 yards from his kind capture before being promptly snatched by a hawk.

You can see the brown mouse scurrying away in the snow in the middle toward the top of this image. (Image: YouTube screenshot)

And then… (Image: YouTube screenshot)

“Oh no!” (Image: YouTube screenshot)
The footage of the unfortunate turn of events posted on Reddit with the title “guy at my school attempting to release a mouse into the wild” shows the kindhearted friend in military fatigues, suggesting he might attend a military academy.
He sweetly coaxes the mouse out of the can: “come on little buddy.” And even wishes him “good luck.”
Since we know what’s coming, the next line only adds salt to the wound. His friend filming asks “how do you feel kiddo?”
“I feel relieved,” the man said, “that he’s not going to wake me up in my bed anymore, crawling on my leg. But sad, you know, I just got to know him. And, uh … oh no.
“Oh nooo! Nooo! Are you kidding me? He didn’t last five minutes. I’m a terrible person. Oh, my gosh, let’s get out of here.”
The mouse can’t really catch a break — and it was all caught on film.
Check it out:
Of course, there is always the potential with computer graphics imagery that such a scene could have been faked (like the recent viral video that made it look like an eagle swooped down and picked up a child, which turned out to be the work of film students). Let us know if you think this video is real by taking our poll.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 5:52pmI remember a friend telling me how he met one of the original founders of the Sierra Club, who was unhappy about how the group had been taken over by rich city kids who were rebelling against their (business minded) parents. They didn’t know the woods and mountains, just the idea of them. “Ecology” and “biodiversity” are great buzzwords for people with no real science for the most part, and little understanding of the world they want to regulate. Park Avenue Environmentalists he called them.
There is plenty of precedent for the kind of thing you are talking about, and I saw references to some of them. News flash – nature is red in tooth and claw, and unless you are suitably armed when you meet something with size and teeth, you are part of the food chain too.
Loving cute animals does not change nature. Wanting everyone to just get along will not make a rabbit less eager to live another day by escaping the fox, or a fox less eager to eat the rabbit – to live another day. Life lives by devouring other life. Only plants make their own food from sunlight, and they are prey for everything else.
Vegetarians are killing baby plants every time they eat a seed… You can’t escape it unless you want to starve to death. Does your ethical code demand suicide by hunger? PETA – people for the eating of tasty animals !

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 3:21pmI saw a woman a while back empty a box that had a dead raccoon in it in the wood lot next to my house. She called over to say it was hit by a car and she wanted to give it a proper burial. She went back to her trunk to get a shovel she had brought with her. As she approached where she placed the racoon a coyote ran right at her. She screamed, it grabbed the racoon and ran away. True story!

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 3:15pmThere was a similar video where a baby was supposed be picked up by an eagle. He drops the child and flies off. That was also fake.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 3:13pmI often wonder if PETA plans to patrol the wilderness for such “crimes” ~ after all if they really believe their guru prof. Peter Singer’s “a rat is a dog is a pig is a boy” philosophy the wild should be policed just as we would a community of mentally retarded people who are morally not culpable but wouldn’t be allowed to kill each other. Oh but then again, liberals don’t have to be consistent do they, they just make up their emotion-based fuzzy logic as they go along.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 2:57pmIf the Hawk didn’t get him then the mouse would have just found another house and homeowner to disturb! I don’t think it was right for the man to release the mouse in the first place, he was just ridding himself of bad feelings and making someone else take care of it correctly. It’s a mouse, if he loved it so much he could have bought a cage for it, kept it and took care of it. Instead he decided to do the touchy feely thing and the Circle of Life took over!!

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:57pmYears back after the Exxon Valdez oil spill they made a big deal over releasing the first sea otter that got cleaned up. The news cameras were rolling as the otter swam out into the harbor and promptly got swallowed by a killer whale. Too funny! Thousands of dollars collected from bleeding hearts just so Shamoo could have a snack.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:55pmI guess we’ve all become jaded and suspect, that we believe everything is fake. If only that were true of Obama and he didn’t really exist. Just a fantasy, I know.

Posted on January 11, 2013 at 1:54pmI don’t think the guy should’ve been that hard on himself; he did what he thought was right, the mouse was freed, nature–though rather dispassionate at times–took it from there. That’s all you CAN do. What, you’re going to run interference from mouse predators?…and for how long..?
