Militants Open Fire on Italian Consul in Benghazi — Armored Vehicle Saves His Life

Gunmen Fire Shots at Italian Consul in Benghazi, No Injuries Reported

(TheBlaze/AP) — Militants opened fire on the car of the Italian consul in the Libyan city of Benghazi, but he wasn’t injured, officials in Rome and Libya said Saturday.

A security detail traveling with Consul Guido De Sanctis returned fire, but the gunmen who were driving in a car alongside De Sanctis’ convoy sped away, a Libyan security official said.

The shooting occurred in the evening as De Sanctis was leaving the consulate.

A government official in Rome said De Sanctis wasn’t hurt because he was travelling in an armored vehicle. Video footage shown on Sky TG24 showed several gunshots to the windows of the vehicle.

Reuters adds a few direct quotes:

“He is completely unharmed,” said the [Italian Foreign Ministry] spokesman.

A security source in Libya who declined to be named told Reuters: “They shot at his car, but the car was armored. He is fine, there are no injuries.”

Benghazi was the site of a Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission that killed four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya. Security for westerners has been an increasing concern in the intervening months, Reuters adds.

Civilized people gain nothing by going to a place like this. The only reason civilized people should go to countries like this is to either “reach out to them” with an intercontinental nuclear missile or fly over dropping bombs. Going to them to lend a hand and negotiate is perceived by them as appeasement and they despise us for appeasement. Wipe out a few million of them in a week and they’ll be our friends. Just a fact.

There is an Italian Eco Terrorist Group called il Silvestre that works with Al Qaeda and is involved in Benghazi. Maybe he was there because of them. They are a VERY seriously, deadly group.

Let’s get this straight, the Italians in Banghazi have an armored vehicle and we didn’t? And of course they wouldn’t think of rescuing our guys. Obama just sits back and watches this ****, knowing there’s not a damned thing any of us who can read the Constitution and history can do about it. I have thought from the beginning that Stevens was hit with the Obama/Clinton admin knowledge and approval. Maybe his sexual orientation?

Conterterrorism adviser Brennen was over Libya & Egypt during this spring thing. Now, since Brennen did such a great job on that..he’s nominated for CIA? Nice system. No one fails in the Progressive system and there is NO justice or accountability. Isn’t it grand? They just keep moving FORWARD.

I wonder why we didnt send someone to pick up Chris Stevens in an armored car? I wonder why we didnt bother to send ANYONE to pick up those four men and get them out of harms way? I’m sure they werent picky about it being an armored vehicle either,just as long as someone cared enough to try to help them. But that didnt happen,now did it?
