White House Responds to All of Those Secession Petitions: There’s No Right to Secede

The Obama administration on Friday responded to the wave of secession petitions that spread online following the November election, preaching unity over division and saying there’s no right to secede.
“In a nation of 300 million people — each with their own set of deeply-held beliefs — democracy can be noisy and controversial. And that’s a good thing. Free and open debate is what makes this country work, and many people around the world risk their lives every day for the liberties we often take for granted,” wrote Jon Carson, director of the Office of Public Engagement.
“But as much as we value a healthy debate, we don’t let that debate tear us apart,” he said.
More than two dozen states from all corners of the country filed online White House petitions after President Barack Obama’s victory over Gov. Mitt Romney, calling for the government to allow them to secede. Carson’s letter was filed in response to requests from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, all of which garnered the necessary 25,000 signatures. It was also a response to a petition to deport those who had signed petitions to secede in the first place.


Carson said the Founding Fathers enshrined in the Constitution the right to change the national government at the ballot box, but not the right to secede.
“[T]hey did not provide a right to walk away from it,” he continued. “As President Abraham Lincoln explained in his first inaugural address in 1861, ‘in contemplation of universal law and of the Constitution the Union of these States is perpetual.’ In the years that followed, more than 600,000 Americans died in a long and bloody civil war that vindicated the principle that the Constitution establishes a permanent union between the States.”
After the Civil War ended, Carson said, the Supreme Court held that “[t]he Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union composed of indestructible States.”
“So let’s be clear,” he concluded. “No one disputes that our country faces big challenges, and the recent election followed a vigorous debate about how they should be addressed. As President Obama said the night he won re-election, ‘We may have battled fiercely, but it’s only because we love this country deeply and we care so strongly about its future.’ Whether it’s figuring out how to strengthen our economy, reduce our deficit in a responsible way, or protect our country, we will need to work together — and hear from one another — in order to find the best way to move forward.”

Why not just stand in line and have your pictures taken too?
I know, I know that they have been and will continue to keep track.
That they are following emails and all other electronic data BUT…
Why volunteer it…?
Quite a few out there don’t want them to know you, your weapons, etc., and yet sign a ‘whitehouse.gov’ petition?

Make your decisions and stand by them at all cost. The Constitution and our Country are worth it.

It is Play by the Rules principle, the Constitution, or this state (anyone) will take its ball and leave. We are not married to a bad government for life.
It is another check and balance.
It is another example of Rome trying to define what this country is.
It also points out how Rome has lost the Trust of the People, and that points out how the government is losing the Moral element of the argument.
The Constitution is 6 to 8 pages, the new Obama Care law is over 2,500 pages, example one.

States don’t have a right to seceed, they just can. Talk of rebellion and succession is a “Put Up, or Shut Up” moment. It’s not about negotiation, it’s about victory on the battlefield. It’s similar to what the individual is facing.
The question you have to ask yourself is how far are you willing to go. If they come to take your guns will you hide them, give them up, or will you kill federal officers and face the consequences…certain death if you fight it out, life in jail for murder if you give up, or maybe you’re a Spec Ops Bad Mamba Jamba and can live like Jeremiah Johnson on the run in the hills for years.
In the end it’s always about force. That’s all government is.

And remember this too, the Brits tried to tell us that we had no right to withdraw from Britain. But we kicked their rears. I hope that if it ever comes down to it, that these people look upon my information like the British crown looked upon the signature of John Hancock in bold letters. I don’t care if they know. If there are enough of us with the courage of our convictions, it won’t matter if they know.

In fact there are many constitutional experts who say secession is not only allowable and an alternative to the people it is advised to do so by what many of the founders wrote.
Secession is best invoked as a condition of peace after civil war begins. It is much more feasible for a government to allow secession than to face destruction of society. They will learn that and agree to it when the time comes.
The police, military and government itself will break along partisan lines
We don’t want to destroy the radical leftist elements. We just want them out of our way so we can continue to progress in a society that we prefer. They can continue on with their multicultural Sodom and Gomorrah all by themselves…..until they collapse from the ineptness a social detertioration all on its own.
And “NO” our doors will not be open to any after the fact converts of which there will be plenty. They will be doomed to enjoy their rainbow utopia all by themselves. Maybe they can all join hands in their pink jump suits, sway side to side and sing , “We shall overcome,” while they continue to be persecuted by a government that does not allow them the use of guns to defend themselves.

I mean with the economy on the decline and no more revenue to keep it going, with austerity programs at every turn, causing rioting in the streets, since when can the feds stop anybody from seceding, especially by strong states like Texas and Florida?
Many of us are looking forward to the near future when the feds aren’t going to be able to utter a peep, let alone dictate to people what they can and cannot do.
Anybody who doesn’t hold secessionist views in areas that have a majority that wants secession can always move to another area.
In fact, it would behoove them to move to another area if they’re not kicked out beforehand, before they get a daily ass-kicking for contributing towards societal and financial degeneration.

But his actions are what sent the federal government on a slow and steady power grab.
I’d have thought succession would fall under the 10th amendment, if you can’t leave when you want, then you really have no rights do you?
If it comes down to another Civil war like it keeps looking like, I really doubt the “Rebels” this time would be content to gathering in their havens and defending them and letting the Union go it’s own way. I do believe the rebels will go for the complete removal of the other side and they will be sent with their tails between their legs off to never never land. Yeah, they are going to want it all, and it will probably be the right thing, as I don’t believe either side would last long with out the whole.

Many sites are monitored, then their history across servers tracked, your MAC address is tracked across computers along with your IP. If you think that you are secure from this with any piece of software you’re nuts because even by using an IP shield and surfing through a VPN you are still creating a statistic and an IP location that can be hacked/ researched to reveal the origin of the IP in question. The only way NOT to be on a list is to never read or research anything on the internet, also anything social media including posting how stupid it is to post is recorded… that makes you a target for being someone who is too smart or dangerous to sign a petition. When Glen made his comments on TV about that it was comical because of anyone he’s got the largest profile to the public one can have. The days of writing anonymous letters ie Silence Do Good are over on the internet. You might still be able to do that with a physical letter to a news paper, but if your finger prints are on it and that paper involving, DHS, NSA, FBI have reason to be concerned you will be logged and tracked too. In many ways Ben Franklin had it easy. The only safe person is one who is completely off the grid meets code, including local and county, lives nowhere near Federal lands, they do their business via a corporate name and their taxes are always paid on time. 1. When Democrats controlled Congress they were working on legislation that would enable Hawaii, Key West, Fl, and Provincetown, Ma to secede. In 2010 they lost control of the House and the movement ended.
2. When Abraham Lincoln won election a Illinoise and Massachusetts Senator introduced a Bill into the US Senate to prevent states from seceding. This was done because states could secede. There is nothing in the US Constitution except what Liberals see there that forbids secession.
We all know that the UN and World Court would rule that the US can break up into separate nations. We all know why they would want this. Its going to happen and there is no stopping it now. Its too late to stop it.

Don’t even have a bank account! The websites that you visit put cookies on your computer to help them find out what your likes and wants are! It’s very easy for the government to get this information and keep track of the ones they are interested in! If you want privacy then a website is the last place you want to be!

Personally I don’t know exactly how a state goes about seceding. But since you believe most everyone in your state also agrees with your opinion, you won’t have to worry about that. Presumably your governor and legislators and police and so also agree with you so that part shouldn’t be a problem. I guess if they don’t agree then the first step is to overthrow them but presumably that not a problem given the strength of your convictions that you speak for “we the people” despite the results of the last election.
Anyway, just do it. Just secede as a state. Simple. Are you too afraid to take that step? Too afraid you can’t survive without the Federal Government? Too chicken? If you want to secede, then why are you procrastinating? You state will be just fine.
Can someone explain why you and your state hasn’t seceded yet? Is your state just a bunch of wimps or what? You want to do it, then do it or shut up.

Since it is supposed to be government of the people, by the people, it is ours to discard if it no longer represents us. They work for us. Most of the country, including those in government, especially those in government, seem to have forgotten that basic premise behind our republic.

And yes, we definitely have the rights as states to withdraw from the Union. The states formed the Federal Govt., and they can also dissolve it, or withdraw from it. The states have the final say – not the Federal Govt. They just hope that if they keep saying you can’t do it – that we will give up.

Just as well, IP addresses change frequently, and all you needed to sign up for the petitions is a first name and last initial, plus any email address you want. Not saying it is impossible to track someone down, it just takes time, though your statement is one of cowardice. Sitting back and letting them step over you will never fix a situation.

There will not be Mao, Stalinist or Hitler grade killings/purgings/renditions of citizens as long as ther are armed. This sharpens the point on the Second Amendment debate. If we lose that, then we are at civil war, it’s not prophecy, it’s a guarantee.
Civil War part II will make the first one look like a fight in the kiddy pool since it will no longer be along state lines but ideological lines and rural vs. urban. The starvation in the large cities will be so horrific that millions will die, not hundreds of thousands.
At the end of the day, what will have to happen is that the cities will have to realize they NEED those rural folks to provide them with food, while those same rural folks cling to their god, guns and religion. Economically, the cities will collapse on their own, that will create problems for them, but try to take the guns- there will be war.

We have the proper mindset that this is our home, and will be run by our employees or they shall be fired. Time to get back to basics, paper ballots, ID required and maybe, just maybe we can have an honest election. Also, we still have true Democrats out there as well. My local Representative in Washington is Mike Mcintyre. I never vote for him, but he is one of the blue dogs. I am grateful for that. We will always need our check and balance system to keep other party’s at bay. BTW, Obamas executive orders will not stand. They will be tried in the courts and in the house and overthrown. We will keep our country, but it will take time to regain control of DC. Start with your children. Home school as much as possible so the next generation will know just how wonderful America can be.

I also knew through the holy spirit that he would win the 08 election and then I predicted in early 09 that he would again win another term. I tried to not believe me eyes and ears to what I was seeing and hearing from this man. I wanted to be very wrong about who I thought he might be.
Even when it was not looking so good for him for re-election, I did not back off on my belief that he would succeed because the people have fallen under his spell…..through discernment this truth was revealed to me that he was the ONE.
Listen to his words, watch what he does and his people, watch who votes for him, what do they believe about him, what do they think he can do for them, understand how the world has responded to him, know that everything negative seems to bounce off him, see how the media has given their total support for him, hear his blasphemies against God and you to will know who he is.

Farmers have failed throughout American history simply because there were too many of them at most times. Obviously, the products and services they produce when there are simply too many of them, all the while technological advances have allowed them to produce much more than beforehand; moreover, as demand has not increased with supply, all means that of course food is going to become cheaper for the masses, especially the poor. This is exactly what happened during the Depression, until the farmers got incredibly greedy and demanded that the gubmint subsidize their failure–thus FDR, our worst president ever until now sent out his thugs to slaughter 6 million pigs, and other animals, and bury them in the ground or burn them, while millions were starving in soup and bread lines. They also payed farmers to not bring their crops to market, so they plowed them under the ground, again as millions starved. Nothing better than good old greed down on the farm, huh? I see that you must always advocate that gubmint can somehow centrally direct resources towards their most valuable usage much more effeciently than can the millions of individuals’ choices that make up the market could ever do? And the market isnt perfect either.Do self a favor, go read “I, Pencil.” You’ll see, they could not even direct resources effeciently towards the pencil industry.

I’d much rather see no subsidies, lower taxes, and consumers having a better understanding of what they’re buying is actually costing.

Walkabout – West Virgina wasn’t formed from the CW. It was done long before that. Virgina use to go west to the Pacific Ocean. It’s division had to do with the mountains.

Posted on January 12, 2013 at 4:19pmSome thing you asked struck a nerve when I was growing up in West Virginia Old Grandma used to tell us kids that the Virginia Commonwealth had split from the holy Union to start the civil war, but our folks stayed loyal to America and would not leave the Union, and many fought bravely in the battles to keep our country like a family together again. So we are a state of the union, not a commonwealth.
But after the war was all at an end, the Virginians were so angry they lost they never agreed or such to reunite under one elected governor with us because they were afraid of carpetbaggers, and we are today a commonwealth there and a state here but part of the strong and brave U-S of A for sure together again, that’s all I want to say.

My Granny told me that Unionists were rapacious bastards, that nothing about them was remotely American, and that their legacy would be the final destruction of both the Constitution and any Republic it ever formed.
Gee, when I look at the blue vs. red states – I see that Granny was right. Care to argue with that?
I have a very bad feeling we’re seeing history perfectly repeat itself. To side with Lincoln, according to this “response” is to side with Obama and your favorite fascist Neo-Conservative. “Don’t mess with our base of graft and corruption, or we’ll kill you” – that’s what Lincoln said (and did), and what Obama is saying (and will do).
Little has changed since 1861. Its the same argument as then, no matter how hard court historians ingratiated to the Gov have tried to brainwash it away. I do find it ironic that Old Va has been inundated with DC suburbanites working for the Gov they belong to and turned blue, while West Va has seen the light and has been largely treated just as maliciously since the war of 1861 as the rest of the south. Regardless of Unionist loyalty in 1863, WV still regarded as southern trash by the progressives and the Government. Have you heard what O’Reilly thinks of Appalachains?
Might want to re-examine what’s really “American” and what’s not.

Failure to do that can result in fraud and really severe penalties, penalties which will be extracted from your paycheck via garnishing etc. Failure to pay isnt as serious, as long as you file correctly. The IRS charges a 5% interest rate on any unpaid taxes, and gives you 5 years to pay it back.
Anyway… thought you might want to know what will happen and how the treasury will get its cut. best of luck

They’ll keep pouring on new laws and regulations to infringe on our right to bear arms and every new gun law they come up with is unconstitutional but they’ll keep passing them. They’re conditioning us over time to get us to believe that we actually no longer have that right. Confiscation will happen I just think they’ll wait until they think enough of us have been thoroughly brainwashed then they’ll go after the hold outs.

George Randolph, Confederate Sec. of War from March 24, 1862 to Nov. 17, 1862 (when he resigned due to the tuberculosis that eventually killed him), was Thomas Jefferson’s grandson. First commissioned as a Major in the Confederate army, Randolph had risen to the rank of Brigadier General prior to his appointment as Sec. of War.

I understand how much you all dislike President Obama, but the reality is that there are only a handful of leaders on the right that have even hinted at the possibility of secession- Rick Perry and Ron Paul are the only ones that come to mind. Even if every signature on that Texas petition was unique, it still represents less than one percent of that states registered voters (Obama got 3.3 Million votes in Texas, btw).
Its not a political reality, and all the secession movement has done is lead more independents and moderate republicans to the democratic party out of disgust. If you want to see who is responsible for the Democrats holding the White House, all you need to do is look in the mirror. I swear its like you people never want to win another election ever again
