The Obama administration on Friday responded to the wave of secession petitions that spread online following the November election, preaching unity over division and saying there’s no right to secede.
“In a nation of 300 million people — each with their own set of deeply-held beliefs — democracy can be noisy and controversial. And that’s a good thing. Free and open debate is what makes this country work, and many people around the world risk their lives every day for the liberties we often take for granted,” wrote Jon Carson, director of the Office of Public Engagement.
“But as much as we value a healthy debate, we don’t let that debate tear us apart,” he said.
More than two dozen states from all corners of the country filed online White House petitions after President Barack Obama’s victory over Gov. Mitt Romney, calling for the government to allow them to secede. Carson’s letter was filed in response to requests from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas, all of which garnered the necessary 25,000 signatures. It was also a response to a petition to deport those who had signed petitions to secede in the first place.

Carson said the Founding Fathers enshrined in the Constitution the right to change the national government at the ballot box, but not the right to secede.
“[T]hey did not provide a right to walk away from it,” he continued. “As President Abraham Lincoln explained in his first inaugural address in 1861, ‘in contemplation of universal law and of the Constitution the Union of these States is perpetual.’ In the years that followed, more than 600,000 Americans died in a long and bloody civil war that vindicated the principle that the Constitution establishes a permanent union between the States.”
After the Civil War ended, Carson said, the Supreme Court held that “[t]he Constitution, in all its provisions, looks to an indestructible Union composed of indestructible States.”
“So let’s be clear,” he concluded. “No one disputes that our country faces big challenges, and the recent election followed a vigorous debate about how they should be addressed. As President Obama said the night he won re-election, ‘We may have battled fiercely, but it’s only because we love this country deeply and we care so strongly about its future.’ Whether it’s figuring out how to strengthen our economy, reduce our deficit in a responsible way, or protect our country, we will need to work together — and hear from one another — in order to find the best way to move forward.”

Jan. 12, 2013 at 12:17pmHow ironic that the Obama cites the Constitution he routinely violates or ignores when dealing with the issue of secession. The fact is, while we may live in the USA, it is not the USA many of us want and if we have any unalienable rights at all, one of them is to break free from oppression in whatever way we can regardless of existing laws to the contrary.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 12:14pmThe Federal Government was established to serve the People, not the other way around. These people have a sovereign right to Govern as they chose in their own community. Many have become failed wards of the Federal Government. That’s their problem. Washington now seeks to level the playing field by subjecting the mistakes of others upon all.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 12:24pmOK, I then see only a couple of alternatives. 1) Let DC continue to destroy the economy with unlimited spending and wait for the depression. 2) Lay down, give up and wait for Barry to declare himself king. 3) All the states that want to secede get together and take over DC and send all the pinkos to another country. Yes, some of this is tongue in cheek, but sitting on our hands waiting for the next election is a waist of time.

Sure thing you would think that instead of getting on the side of freedom. Only an Obama supporter would say that. Real Marines would never say that.

Why do you think my regime is building that ‘data center’ in Utah? Why am I continually making laws to restrict gun sales? Why am I killing your fossil fuel production? Why am I devaluing your dollar to the point of worthlessness? Why do I want to and am going to remove the name of God from your society? My supporters think I have the countries best interest at heart and I still can’t stop laughing at how gullible and idiotic they are. They have no clue what I’m going to do to you and by the time they do know it’ll be too late because most of you will be starving to death and a civil war will be ongoing. Me and pops had this all planned from the beginning and it’s all falling into place.I killed America and the gullible and foolish stood idly by and watched and did nothing.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 8:14pmIf I were the devil, I’d do to America exactly what Dear Leader is doing!
When I was a wee lad in the 80s, I had a vision of this time…a fleeting glimpse if you will. It was a time far beyond the coldwar era that was at the time…there would be no Soviet Invasion nor Nuke exchange under Reagan. I still felt I had time for a future. It was a time period so far off it seemed at the time like I was looking through a foggy mirror, @myself much older, children grown that had not even been conceived yet.
The America that you could not fathom would be then in existence…the America filled with Americans who would carry out orders of the anti-christ and put many to the blade. I wondered then how would my fellow, honest, hardworking, God fearing Americans come to a place where they would feel so empowered to hate me so much that they felt it neccessary to rid the world of the likes of me. Why and How I thought could this happen in America…this was in 1980-81.
We are now at that time!
The days are shortening and its getting harder to see a future of anykind at this point.
I see only turmoil and dispair coming. The mayhem and murder will accompany it, but I see the spiritual side only and that is one of utter destuction.
I make no claims on being a prophet, its not only been in the past decade or so that I’ve noticed things that have come true or premonitions of danger, ie Flt 800, Oklahoma massacre, 04 Tsunami, Dear Leaders election’s.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 12:04pmThis was argued at our original constitutional convention, without a real conclusion. There were those, including Mr. Pinkney of Georgia who argued that since the federal union was voluntary for the states, they had the implied right to secede from it at will.
There was a proposal in 1864 by Seward that the matter of secession be litigated in the Supreme Court. President Lincoln vetoed that proposal saying “Why should we risk in court what we have won on the field of battle?

The result was 600 thousand dead Americans. It will be MUCH WORSE this time. We promise! The Tenth Amendment protects the States from illegal acts performed by you and your henchmen. You hold the office illegally anyway and any Law or EO you issue is null and void to us Peons. If you continue down the path of Lawlessness then the States will have no other choice but to secede. Jan. 12, 2013 at 11:56amAmericans seem to only want easy answers.
The process for redress is voting out every vulnerable Democrat Senator (and RINOs) in 2014. This will not be an easy task but I point to 2006 and 1994 as significant mid-term elections. People forget that 2010 was a significant mid-term and the only reason things aren’t better are the idiots who bought the “there’s no difference between the candidates” argument.
The Executive Branch has taken on too much power beyond the intent of the Founders but they created a system that will balance itself eventually. People want to rush to the 2nd Amendment as a balancing function but that is only when other options have failed and seriously it really is only intended for when people start populating Mao-ist re-education camps (and I don’t see than in the near future…and if it ever happens then it will be WOLVERINES time).
We need to be careful that the mentally unbalanced among us don’t become our mouth pieces.

Notice also who writes the answers. Mr. Transparency never responds without his handlers or teleprompters. We should abandon ghostwriters for politicians and “spokesmen” at so-called media events. They’re all staged and it’s all theater; it has no moral weight.
The upshot of our Constitution basically says that an immoral law is no law at all. Petitions are easy. Now it’s time to fish or cut bait.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 11:51amWhat a shocking surprise… the ‘government’ says we can’t secede! Stop asking DC what you can do. By asking… you have given them authority over the States. If I was a Governor, I would go to the people of that state and ask them. If the vast majority wanted it I would simply TELL the feds that we will be leaving their “club” on this date and will no longer respond to them… period. Then prepare for war.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 11:50amWell if more the 2 dozen states, that’s at least half, then which half is the legal union? Why does the swamp we call Washington DC have the union, since it also has the majority of takers, that live off of the rest of the Nation.
Maybe if 26 States, or more, want to secede, since they make up the majority of states, they should just abort the Costal dwellers, and continue on with our constitutional Republic government. Leaving the progressives to fare for themself in their Socialist Utopia. They can have live in their communial haven, taking care of each other and leave the producers alone. Those that support the deification of Lincoln — the Lincoln Memorial is a Temple to the “god” may fear to read the first book mentioned, but the so-called logic of Lincoln the lawyer about the matter was that he believed the Union was older than the individual States that comprised it. Twisted at best.

Jan. 12, 2013 at 11:49amThis must be the 5th time in the last week that Obama has invoked Lincoln.
It appears he truly sees himself in the role of the leader against states Rights, and plans on pushing it to it’s logical conclusion.
I’d love to see Obama’s face when the Army and Marine Corps commanders tell him to pound sand when he issues his illegal orders to occupy US cities and detain/kill US Citizens. Lets pray for a short revolution, quickly followed by long drop from a short rope for all members of progressive, statist, union and communist organisations in the USA, so that we secure freedom for the next 200 years of Americans.
