Democratic Senator: ‘I Am Not Comfortable’ With Chuck Hagel

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), known by some as one of the more liberal voices in the Senate, is apparently still not comfortable with the views of Obama defense secretary nominee Chuck Hagel. Appearing on “Fox News Sunday” with Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), Blumenthal told host Chris Wallace point-blank that he wasn’t ready to vote for Hagel, despite the former Nebraska senator’s record of service.

“I’m gonna want to ask questions about those positions. I am not comfortable yet,” Blumenthal told Wallace. “There are tremendously consequential issues that are equally important to ask about during this hearing.”

Watch Blumenthal’s full reasoning below:

Blumenthal joins an already wide and ideologically diverse list of politicians with concerns about Hagel’s nomination. Nevertheless, Blumenthal predicted Hagel’s eventual confirmation.

“I think Senator Hagel will be approved, and I think the history of nominees shows and I think his own qualifications also demonstrate that he has the capacity,” Blumenthal said.

      He is not a fake war hero. He received to Purple Hearts and the CBI. This is the only thing I respect about Chuck Hagel. When he supported Kerry for Nebraska Senator, I decided that he sucked.

    Phony opposition. His discomfort with Hagel will disappear and he will vote for him. Put on a good show for the non-selfhating Jews and assure them that Obama has the interests of Israel in his heart.

    Hagel is eminently qualified to be Sec. of Defense and many Republicans incl Brent Scowcroft, Thomas Carlucci, and Paul Volcker have said so. It’s only the neocons who have a problem with him.

    Hagel is a decorated war veteran, the recipient of two Purple Hearts while an infantry squad leader in the Vietnam War. He will be confirmed as Sec. of Defense. Deference is always to given to the President unless the nominee has serious ethical issues.

      @13th Imam

      Nomination for cabinet (4 years) and supreme court (life time) are two entirely different things. The cabinet does what the President wants, hence their picks are normally confirmed.

    The problem is not that this guy got elected.. The problem is that there are enough people that voted to have him elected.. This lying piece of excrement is actually better then the people that elected him.. Does not say much about modern American low lives.. Can’t imagine prior generations of Americans putting up with everything that is going on.

      Tom you are a fool. The Bible makes it very clear that America and the rest of the World will not exist the moment that Israel is marked for destruction. If Hagel does it, America will be judge by God. If Obama does it, America will be judge by God. If you voted for Obama and Obama paves the way for Israel’s destruction, all Obama voters will be judged by God.

      God made it very clear in the scriptures, “What you do to Israel God will do to you.”

      You don’t hear this being taught from the pulpit by the large # of America’s uninformed Pastors, but I can assure you, they too will be judge by God for ignoring his Warnings.

    As your gay Marxist Anti-Semite ruler I’m very comfortable with picking an Anti-Semite like Hagel,that’s why I picked him! Don’t listen to Blumenthal he said he was a war hero in Vietnam but never stepped foot in Vietnam,he can’t be trusted. My loyal subjects I want you to know I’m assembling a group of like minded Anti-Semites in my regime to deal with the Israeli problem and with their help and my friends in the MB I know we can eliminate the problem once and for all.

    They are a few democratic senators that have expressed this. Senator Shumer among them. After all tha senate has passed resolutions in total support of Israel. If Hagel is confirmed, they will make their resolutions worthless, and if Kerry, and Brennan are also confirmed they will administer to the further decline of the U.S. military proness, and its worls stature. Jack Lew will simply carry out Obama’s agenda. In August 2011, Jack Lew trumpeted that the “stimulus created millions of jobs”. While in June 1011 Obama,and Immelt had a laugh over the failure of “shovel ready jobs”.

    Hagel is the worst choice for Defense Secretary, he will work hand in hand with Obama to gut the armed forces completely. Along with this, due to him being a Republican, Obama can then blame the gutting of the armed forces on the Right.
