Words Fail: This Live-Action, Shot-for-Shot Full-Length Recreation of ‘Toy Story’ Is Amazing

YouTube
It’s still early, but this live-action, shot-for-shot full-length recreation of “Toy Story” is the definite frontrunner for the coolest thing you will see all week.
You read that right: Jonason Pauley and Jesse Perrotta have been working since 2010 to recreate the entire animated Pixar classic with real people and real toys, using a combination of stop-motion photography and puppet strings, all set to the actual “Toy Story” audio track. They posted their completed hour-and-20-minute film on YouTube Saturday.
Watch and be amazed by the dedication to detail, right down to the cloud wallpaper:
They also have a seven-minute recreation of the ending of “Toy Story 3.” (What? We’re not crying, we just have some dust in our eye.)

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 8:49pmI don’t care what anyone says. This was a cute idea. I just watched the first few minutes and already I am laughing. The production value is not exactly great (esp. the lighting is pretty bad), but it’s clear these amateurs went to great lengths to get every little detail right.
You think John Lasseter isn’t flattered? This is going to get a lot of people watching the first Toy Story again just to make comparisons between the two. So you think Pixar won’t be pleased with these guys? I can bet you anything this is already being passed along the Pixar internal blogosphere. Pixar has an internal message board that just things like this would be posted to, and passed around as a fun link in emails. You think all those guys do is work all day? They play all day. This is exactly the kind of thing they’d be passing around for a good laugh.
It was a clever idea. Even if they don’t get a call from Disney/Pixar, they are still raking in the dough for their efforts through Youtube ads. This was published only 2 days ago and already it has over 1 million views. How many YT videos can get massive traffic so quickly? These guys are already rolling in the dough just for creating this and posting it. CLEVER. Very clever.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 12:49pmbusterpuddles might not like having to admit that most of the comments here are “painfully and critically negative,” but there’s an obvious reason(s) why they are: the “remake” of Toy Story is senseless, unless of course these folks actually believed that Pixar or others might be impressed with this terrible film. I suppose they’re working on the Wizard of Oz even as we speak.
The only question I have is “why?” Why waste so much time with this tripe? Thankfully I only spent about five minutes of my life going through this waste of disk space (cloud or otherwise) rather than sit through the entire thing.
Oh well, along with tens of thousands of other film-making wannabes on YouTube (where I waste as little of my precious time as possible), this thing will find its way to the virtual round file with haste – hmm, haste rhymes with waste – now that’s interesting!

Ever hear of a hobby? Friendship? What these guys did isn’t about quality and production value, it’s about trying to do something fun and creative. Perhaps they should spend their time sitting on a bar stool watching grown men on a tv screen play with balls.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 8:29pmPixar has an independent feature film division and short film divisions as well. it is pretty clear they are trying to expand to include live action and visual effects branches. Many of their recent employees got their jobs there by being part of the independent shorts divisions, by creating their own short films (and the production values are ALWAYS low and oftentimes the plots and dialogues are terrible, but they get their start at Pixar through this anyway). If these guys are Pixar fans and they’d like a nod in their direction, if there was ANY time in the world to do something like this, now was the time.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 8:45pmThough I don’t normally reply on this site, you are a special kind of stupid that most wholeheartedly deserves one. First off, your jealousy of those who get out there and actually do something is painfully obvious to the most casual observer. How simple a thing to sit back in one’s easy chair, and proclaim to the world: “That thing that they did? Yeah, stupid.” For if for one moment you step out of your shell and be reminded that this took several man hours over the course of two years, maybe three years. Three years. That’s patience, loyalty, but most of all dedication. Not only that, they did it for YOUR enjoyment as well as theirs. So, you toss it in the round file. Okay. Nobody cares. But, e, and others like, I appreciate a good work when I see it. I daresay you would never have had the discipline to finish such a project. Not only that, but you know it, and so you have to talk trash about those who do. Special kind of stupid. You’re welcome.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 10:29amI don’t like admitting that most of the comments on here are painfully and critically negative. Is The Blaze reaching their target audience? Most of you sound like a bunch of Negative Nancys.
It’s obvious that the makers of this video are regular people that saw the movie, got an idea to try to recreate it, and went for it. We all know they’re not pros, so why do we knock them so hard for venturing out to see how well they could achieve their goal? Sheesh! Applaud them for their freaking efforts for goodness’ sake!

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 1:04amThese boys have a bright future. Someone needs to send this to John Lassiter. I’m 100% certain they will get a free inside tour of Pixar for their dedication, and a guaranteed job in the animation industry.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 2:53amTonypro !? How does watching this benefit Disney? It’s free on You Tube! It’s the perfect way see the show without benefiting Disney. I’m surprised Disney hasn’t thrown a fit for copyright infringement.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 8:36pmDisney hasn’t thrown a fit because this is clearly free advertizing for them. This isn’t taking the actual movie and recutting it, it is a live-action play that points to a movie that some who view it might not have seen yet. It will raise curiosity in younger kids who weren’t born yet: “what’s this about?”

Posted on January 13, 2013 at 3:06pmAwesome! I’ve often wished to see something like this done with LEGO Star Wars. I know there are lots of little scene recreations on YouTube here and there, but I’d really love to see a shot-for-shot remake with LEGO or CG LEGO with the original audio. Does such a thing exist? http://www.msnbc.com.reports.qr.net/j5Cx
