Armed Good Samaritans Rescue Man After Gunpoint Robbery: They ‘Protected Me When I Couldn’t Protect Myself’

Good Samaritans Help Victim Kevin Dorsey During Armed Robbery Attempt in Houston

(KPRC)

A Houston man was robbed at gunpoint as he made his way to his car after leaving a bar on Thursday. But in addition to the man’s wallet and phone, the robber ended up with bullet wounds and bite marks from a German Shepherd, thanks to a pair of quick-thinking good Samaritans.

Police say the armed thug was canvassing a local neighborhood when he thought he had found an easy mark. The victim, Kevin Dorsey, told KHOU that he hadn’t even closed his car door before a man, dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask, put a gun to his chest and demanded his wallet, cell phone and car keys.

Dorsey took off on foot after being robbed, prompting two men in a Mercedes to ask him what had happened.

“As soon as they pass me, they see the guy has a gun to me,” Dorsey told KPRC. “They stopped right there. The guys in the gray Mercedes asked me, ‘Did you just get jacked?’ I said yes.”

The two unidentified vigilantes went after the suspect and reportedly exchanged fire with the criminal. The good guys eventually won the gun fight and wounded the thief.

In a twist of irony, the robber jumped a fence after being shot in an attempt to escape — only to find a German Shepherd waiting for him on the other side. The dog attacked him and prevented him from escaping before police arrived.

“I don’t own a gun. I’m totally at the mercy of my saviors. They obviously sent two angels to help me. These people protected me when I couldn’t protect myself.”

The robbery suspect, later identified by police as Christopher Hutchins, was being treated at Ben Taub Hospital for a gunshot to his abdomen. He is expected to recover.

It’s unclear whether the two men who came to Dorsey’s rescue were concealed carry permit holders, however, reports do not indicate that police took any action against the men. In Texas, gun owners can carry firearms in their car without a concealed carry permit so long as the weapon is not in plain view and the owner is not involved in criminal activity, a criminal street gang or otherwise prohibited by law from carrying a weapon.

They don’t have to have a concealed carry permit if the firearm is not concealed……at least in my state.

Unfortunately, TX is not as free as people think. Open Carry is expressly forbidden in TX. Only CC with a CHL is “allowed”.

While Texas is indeed one of only 6 states without some form of open carry of handguns, you do not need any license, certification, or permission to carry a concealed handgun in your vehicle.

So, even if the men in the Mercedes were not CHL holders, they are covered by Texas law to carry concealed handguns in their car.

Note, that all Texans are permitted to openly carry long rifles in their vehicle or their person (without any license or certification required). Want to carry your AR-15 down Congress Ave, up the steps of the Capitol Building, and right into the rotunda of our state’s capitol? Go right ahead.

We have open carry here in Oklahoma but you must have a carry permit just like we did when we were a concealed state. I bet Holder is meeting with Biden right now to decide what to do. You can’t have vigilantes running running around helping the law. That would be like those gangs that saved people on the NYC subways years ago. This guy was just following Obama’s orders from 2007 – Spread the Wealth.

Once again, The Blaze completely misrepresents what happened here. The victim wasn’t “rescued” by the armed samaritans. Just as in the last “father with a gun” story, the perpetrator was only shot AFTER robbing the victim. You can say that the gun helped punish the criminal and retrieve property, but it didn’t SAVE the victim. The guns were still ineffective in preventing the crimes.

SOME DAY CRIMINALS WILL WALK DOWN THE STREET LOOKING OVER THEIR SHOULDERS WORRIED

Now the law abiding disarmed citizen has to walk in fear and worry that maybe one of the numerous door locks may not work. When will blacks worry about walking in a white neighborhood like whites worry about walking in a black neighborhood?

Here in Texas, unfortunately, we can not open carry. But those guys didn’t need any permit at all to carry in their car. Good people stepping up and protecting others! Love it! I bet if every robber got shot in the gut we’d have a lot less robbers…..

Concerned about your natural born gun rights being stolen along with your other freedoms? Be at your local state capitol on January 19th @ high noon! It’s a country wide protest aimed at sending the corrupt powers that be a message that we will not allow our rights and our guns to be taken from us in any way whatsoever!!!

It’s a family affair. Bring everybody! The more the better! Bring your signs, be respectful, dress well and don’t give the Socialist media anything they can use for their propaganda. Because they will if they can! This is war people! It ain’t hot yet and we need to prevent it from becoming so by retaining our God given freedom and rights! Strength is the best deterrent! FLOOD THE CAPITOLS so they can’t ignore us!

PubliusPencilman – since you think “guns were still ineffective in preventing the crimes.” the same logic would be laws are ineffective in preventing crimes. So when a person breaks into a home and a mother and her two children retreat to an upstairs bedroom to hide with a gun and the robber makes the mistake of opening the room they are in and she shoots him. He escapes to be found later the gun did not prevent the break in? Is that your logic? Since the guns don’t act like a pre-crime unit like the movie Minority Report with Tom Cruise they are ineffective? Get a clue.

This report is incorrect. In Texas you are allowed to carry a loaded weapon in your vehicle if you meet the criteria above, but it MUST be concealed.

One problem is that this stuff is not news worthy. Can’t say that anyone died, let alone 20 kids, so why report it? Besides, it does not fit the narrative. Even my wife does not get it, although I keep trying. She just does not understand why or how people can defend themselves.Nor does she get how much more effective it is and this stuff happens every day.

A major problem is that this stuff is not nearly as news worthy as the shooting at the school that killed 20 kids. Stuff like in this article are happening just about every day and far outnumber the stuff like the school shooting. But it does not fit the narrative, so it goes unreported. My wife does not believe me when I tell her about this stuff, so she remains convinced that gun control is the answer. She is unreachable, as are so many of us.

Notice how EVERY story about gun owners thwarting crime ends with something akin to “no charges have yet to be filed against the heros”-like they just barely escaped doing prison time. This is done on purpose people. It is done to scare others from using their guns by making it appear that if you use them, you will be lucky to not be charged. I hate reporters.

Since this happened in the liberal stronghold of Houston, you can bet the local prosecutors are burning the midnight oil digging for some charge they can file against them. The crook will get free lawyers, free this and free that, and plea bargain his arse out of prison as a victim of society. The “legal system” however, will milk the two guys for as much as the system can squeeze out of their billfolds to set an example, and fatten the bank accounts of justice. Libs don’t like anyone taking care of matters themselves. They should have just called 911.
