Armed Good Samaritans Rescue Man After Gunpoint Robbery: They ‘Protected Me When I Couldn’t Protect Myself’
A Houston man was robbed at gunpoint as he made his way to his car after leaving a bar on Thursday. But in addition to the man’s wallet and phone, the robber ended up with bullet wounds and bite marks from a German Shepherd, thanks to a pair of quick-thinking good Samaritans.
Police say the armed thug was canvassing a local neighborhood when he thought he had found an easy mark. The victim, Kevin Dorsey, told KHOU that he hadn’t even closed his car door before a man, dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask, put a gun to his chest and demanded his wallet, cell phone and car keys.
Dorsey took off on foot after being robbed, prompting two men in a Mercedes to ask him what had happened.
“As soon as they pass me, they see the guy has a gun to me,” Dorsey told KPRC. “They stopped right there. The guys in the gray Mercedes asked me, ‘Did you just get jacked?’ I said yes.”
The two unidentified vigilantes went after the suspect and reportedly exchanged fire with the criminal. The good guys eventually won the gun fight and wounded the thief.
In a twist of irony, the robber jumped a fence after being shot in an attempt to escape — only to find a German Shepherd waiting for him on the other side. The dog attacked him and prevented him from escaping before police arrived.
“I don’t own a gun. I’m totally at the mercy of my saviors. They obviously sent two angels to help me. These people protected me when I couldn’t protect myself.”
The robbery suspect, later identified by police as Christopher Hutchins, was being treated at Ben Taub Hospital for a gunshot to his abdomen. He is expected to recover.
It’s unclear whether the two men who came to Dorsey’s rescue were concealed carry permit holders, however, reports do not indicate that police took any action against the men. In Texas, gun owners can carry firearms in their car without a concealed carry permit so long as the weapon is not in plain view and the owner is not involved in criminal activity, a criminal street gang or otherwise prohibited by law from carrying a weapon.

Me thinks he was more at the mercy of his attackers.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 3:13pmPubliusPencilman, I really find lazy imbeciles extremely annoying when they spout fiction and lies as if it were truth. Since you’re too lazy to do your homework, I’ll provide you with some reading material that makes you appear either terribly lazy or just illiterate. You’ll have to actually read these yourself. I won’t do it for you.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 2:37pmSeveral thoughts. The citizens of Texas need to push their Legislature to pass a state-wide open carry law. Even money that the two guys are ex-military. Mr Dorsey, what happens the next time when there aren’t folks around to protect you? And why should anyone put their life on the line to protect you when it seems you aren’t willing to at least try to protect yourself?

Correction.
“They must be hidden from plain view, and the owner cannot be involved in criminal activity or a criminal street gang or otherwise prohibited by law from carrying a weapon.”
Texans can have a gun in their car without a concealed weapons permit, but it cannot be visible (meaning it must be concealed).
Get it right The Blaze.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 1:58pmWere there witnesses to the two “angels” or only the testimony of the man who says he was protected? Any recovered bullets? This doesn’t pass the smell test.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 12:54pmI think that kind of action, with the increase in the number of firearms and those who own guns gettting pretty pissed off at the government for doing nothing, I think that this scenerio will be played over and over again. More people will say hey, if the cops can’t help in time or if I’m at the scene of the crime and I can, well, I’ll take my chances and try to help the person in need. I just think everybodies getting fed up with the crap and will start to take some actions on their own to beat the criminals at heir game.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 11:14amJust look forward to the utopian future OBlamo has for us, where all private ownership of guns will be illegal. Then criminals will be unarmed and toothless, just waiting for the police to pick them up. That’s how it will work, right?

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 11:03amSpeaking for NYS (outside NYC) tough to get a permit here, 3 – 6 months. Must have a permit to handle a hand gun in a gun store. Permit needed to purchase a hand gun, after call in verification you purchase the hand gun, you get a receipt only, take the receipt to license office and they verify the receipt and enter the serial number on your permit, ($5.00). Back to the gun store with your updated permit and you pick up your hand gun. Simple huh.

That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Created equal… treated the same under the law.
Life… freedom to live and the right to defend our life.
Murder is illegal… All of are to be treated equal.
What additional laws are needed?
Will any of these laws make murder more illegal?
Who is teaching ethics, morality, self reliance in our society?
Do ethical, moral, self reliant people commit more crimes than those who exhibit non of these traits?
ACLU is in court working against public schools returning to teaching ethics, morality and self reliance.
Is this a good case to return local schools to local control?

But… but… Lawrence O’Donnell said these things never happen, that guns are never used to protect/assist someone when a crime is being committed! He wouldn’t lie to us, would he? Oh no, say it ain’t so!

I guess Larry forgot to click his heels 3 times while saying that.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 9:22amWhat this Blaze story failed to mention is this guy didn’t just say “I don’t own a gun.” He said “I don’t believe in guns.”
He believed in guns enough to give the armed thug his wallet. What a stupid thing to say “I don’t believe in guns.” It doesn’t make sense. He doesn’t believe they exist? He doesn’t believe they should be used at all? He doesn’t believe they should be used to stop crimes?
“I don’t believe in guns” is a stupid belief.
