Caught on Video: NYC Cops Literally Lift Taxi Off of Injured Man After Cab Runs Him Over
A dramatic scene unfolded in the South Bronx on Sunday morning, when members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) literally lifted a taxi cab off of an unidentified pedestrian who was trapped under it. The intense scene was captured on video, as around a dozen cops, acting quickly, circled the vehicle and collectively lifted it up to ensure rescue of the individual underneath.
The incident unfolded early in the morning and the victim was subsequently taken to Lincoln Hospital in cardiac arrest. As of Monday morning, the individual was listed in critical condition.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 12:54pmI’ll bet the taxi-cab driver jumped out, caught another cab, and was on a cab to Pakistan before the cops got the cab off of the pedestrians.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 1:02pmWe had to pick up and move an Lt’s car when he was parked in the Captain’s spot…it was a small car, we were all big Marines, and there were about twice as many of us as there are cops in the video. Let me say this: those cops were all having an adrenaline rush! Cars are heavy, wheels stay on the ground even after lifting the car about 6 inches, this was a tough thing to do.

Posted on January 14, 2013 at 10:21amI am surprised that the citizen videoing was not arrested for interference.
Anon, mere citizens do this more often than cops. I remember the story of a mother lifting enough of a SF trolleycar to save her brat.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 5:46pmHey, doughnuts are a great tool! During our deptments anual hazmat class we were taught to use them for determining scene safety.
If you hold a powdered doughnut at arms lenght in front of you and the entire scene is not inside the hole, you are too close!
If the powdered sugar is hitting you in the face, you are down wind!
If you are not too close and not down wind and the pastery is not contaminated then it becomes a snack to fuel you until the situation is over because they are rarely over quickly.
