‘Oh My! Oh My!’: You Can’t Miss a Half-Court Shot Any Better Than This Atlanta Hawks Fan
A fan missed the shot of a lifetime during halftime of the Atlanta Hawks’ Friday night game against the Utah Jazz. Shooting the “money shot” from half-court for $1,000, Kevin (the Hawks fan) somehow landed the ball on the back edge of the rim, defying the laws of physics and becoming somewhat of a YouTube sensation. The video of his incredible shot currently has nearly 170,000 views.
“The ball was obviously a bit deflated from NBA standards; either that, or our man Kevin managed an against-all-odds dead-on corner wedge between the rim and the backboard,” Yahoo! Sports blogger Jay Busbee writes.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 1:32pmIf you look at the last replay of this shot you can see a 5″x3″ flat spot on the ball as it came to rest against the glass. This being sad there must be a flat spot on the bottom of the ball where it came to rest on the orange plate fixed to the rim giving the ball a nice flat foundation. The shooter used heavy back-spin so the ball hit glass first and then wedged itself due to its flatness against the bottom plate. This basketball had to be fairly deflated to allow two flat spots.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:16pmSeems some of the Blaze editors don’t understand the laws of physics. This may be a rare occurrence, but it certainly does happen and it doesn’t “defy” the laws of physics when it does.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 4:59pmYou’re right. I’ve done this in my driveway, and I’ve seen it happen in a high school game. If you notice the ball bounces fine before he takes the shot. Glad they gave it to him. That was tougher than getting it in!

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 11:27amThat ball HAD to be half flat for that to happen.
That being said, I predict a change to these types of events;
A thousand bucks if you make it.
2000 if you can pull off leaving it on the rim.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 10:16amNone of this matters. His foot crossed over half-court before the ball was released nullifying any chance of winning. Watch the video again.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 7:20amWe are the country of medals for participation; no score keeping, “everyone wins, no one loses”. The guy stepped over the line by three feet and missed the shot, but still gets the prize! The woosification of the USA.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 7:30amSeriously, this is a private organization attempting to give a prize to one of it’s best customers, a season ticket holder… This isn’t a sign of the collapse of society, it’s someone catching a break for an unexpected and entertaining result.
You know, it’s certainly possible that the ‘competition’ rules allow for either judge’s discretion or this very case was considered.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 7:35amArtev- I don’t know if you are serious about our comments- but I feel it behoove s me to note that blaze readers- unlike huffpo& nytimes readers have this cool new thing called a sense of humor ( basically one says something- occasionally in hyperbolic fashion to elicit a humorous response) also unlike the left; most conservatives don’t really factor race into much of anything we say or do- people are people.
