Piers Morgan (left) and Stephen Colbert (right) discuss gun control and the Second Amendment (Photo Credit: Comedy Central)
Last night, CNN’s Piers Morgan appeared on “The Colbert Report” to discuss firearms in America and the Second Amendment. During the comical exchange, comedian Stephen Colbert questioned Morgan’s recent gun control diatribes — and his knowledge of the U.S. Constitution. After introducing the CNN personality as ”a talk show host who thinks he’s best for America,” Colbert quickly began launching his quips.
“I mean this in the most respectful way possible. Get the f**k out of here,” he told Morgan. “Do you understand, to an American ear, what it sounds like to have an English accent telling us how to live our lives?”
Morgan, while laughing, admitted that such a notion is, indeed, an annoyance. Of course, Colbert wasn’t done there.
“Do you hate the United States Constitution?,” he repeatedly asked the CNN host, at one point handing him a pocket-sized copy of the historical document.
While the exchange was colored by comedy and was not serious in nature (after all, this is Colbert), Morgan did take a few moments to defend his views. He invoked the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook, claiming that the incident should be an example that spawns both intense concern and action among the public.
“I think when 20 young children get blown to pieces, America should say, ‘Something has to be done,’” Morgan proclaimed.
Colbert did note that some have accused Morgan of “pumping up” his ratings by bringing “crazy people” on his program. Here, he was likely referring to Alex Jones’ appearance on “Piers Morgan Tonight” — a fiery exchange that subsequently went viral.
Watch the comical exchange, below:

Jan. 15, 2013 at 1:06pmI wonder…is having the right to speak the same as having the right to say anything you want?
I wonder what the Founding Fathers really meant by free speech?
It’s obvious one cannot truly speak any words anytime they want.
If I were to write down these particular words I’m thinking right now…
my entire comment section would be nixed by the moderator.
Lib’s cry loud when we say inflammatory racist words or slurs,
but Lib’s can say the same word(s) w/out punishment.
I’m really glad that (so far) freedom of thought is protected simply from denied access.
That’s one arena that the Lib’s cannot control.
The problem is not be what we speak…but what we think.
For example: I would change my thinking about whining, lazy, stupid parasite-type people…if they would get a job and stop sucking off the taxpayers, and pay taxes themselves. No matter the color or race. Then my words would not be derogatory towards those people.

Jan. 15, 2013 at 1:51pmOldercowgirl… you have a good point about what can and can’t be said. A good example is the n word a black person can call each other that, but if a white person says it they about go through the roof freaking out. They have even had the nerves to make classic books like Tom Sawyer and others from that time frame changed so that word isn’t in there. Totally not taking into account the time frame when those books were written.

I am of the opinion that Morgan might have 1st amendment rights ———–In his country of citizenship.
Let me recall ———– We The People have a f-ing snob azzed Brit living , working here AND Trying to Legislate from the media “For” his & Obama’s Socialist agenda.
Does the Pos brit even have a work visa ? I seriously doubt he needs a work visa considering the Illegal aliens in the U.S. don’t either.
I.E. If they [ non citizens ] follow the Useful Idiot rules / agenda, all is OK by Dot “O”‘s gov.
One also needs to realize that for decades there has not been any meaningful legislation which was solely intended to help the Legal American citizens.
LaRaza comes over and demands rights much as Piers does in lieu of even being an American citizen.
Non citizens, legal or illegal seem to be running the U.S. and lobbying for rights as If they were naturalized citizens.
How does this work ??
IMO; It works this way. If one wants the rights of the Constitution to lobby for changes in said constitution while in this country they can either get legal or KMA.

If I remember you are gay. Have you heard of the Pink Pistols?
“The Pink Pistols are a gay gun rights organization in the United States and Canada. Their mottos are “Pick on someone your own caliber” and “Armed gays don’t get bashed.””
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Pistols
As a gay person I would think that you would want to be safe. With demographics changing would you be safe from Muslims for example?
The Left always wants the U.S. to be look like Europe, because they are supposedly more culturally advanced. Well, Bruce Bauer writes about Europe extensively. Sometimes it seems that what happens there (like California) happens here. So why don;t you read what Mr. Bawer thinks about the changes in Europe. Mr. Bawer is gay, but I think he is more realistic about things than you are.

Of Course, Morgan, Colbert, , Obama, and anyone with a brain knows that there is no such thing taking ALL the guns. We’ve seen this with regards gangs. How about Fast and Furious? That fiaso shows all we need to know about government and tyranny.
Anyway, there will always be a black market for whatever is banned. Do the words “prohibition” and “drugs” ring a bell?
Why didn’t AJ or Colbert ask this simple question to Morgan…” so, Piers, if you don’t have a gun, how are you going to defend yourself if someone breaks into your home at 3am”?.or….in the case of gangs/drug dealers/ fugitives, and those who will find guns on the black market, how do you propose to take their guns? Will you seduce them into handing them to you with your Brit accent?
Actually, I think Colbert defeated Morgan with humor and that he planned that tactic all along.

Jan. 15, 2013 at 12:17pmTo have a serious answer to your question (if you were actually uninformed, and curious): ever since the firearms ban went into effect, people have either been Modifying “Model” guns with usable parts to convert them into usable (but sometimes disposable) firearms, or just simply making them themselves (like a jailhouse firearm) … Or smuggling them through the black-market…
A basic “simple” gun is NOT hard to make, and with some simple shop machines this can be a fairly easy task…
Either you knew this and asked rhetorically, or were simply curious.. Either way, that is a good chunk on the answer.

Jan. 15, 2013 at 10:25amI don’t find this an “amusing” interview. It’s a very serious issue and Piers Morgan’s uninformed attitude should be dealt with in a serious way. Colbert is a smart guy, uses his pulpit carelessly, and shouldn’t be talking about “pumpng up” ratings on false pretenses. The interview is only useful for demonstrating the laissez faire attitude many on the left would have us buy into about important and nation-changing issues.

A “Yankee” comes south of the Mason-Dixion line and after a while states that they like it down here, but they go back whence they came.
A “Damn-Yankee” comes down, states that they like it down here, decides to stay down here, and then they begin to tell us how to do it their way.
Piers Morgan is a “Damn-Brit” and should return whence he came. Being a Damn-Brit, Piers will understand the use of the word “whence”. VP Biden might be incline to tell Piers to “take a slow boat to China, and have sex with himself.”

Jan. 15, 2013 at 9:33amFreedom is so inconvenient, we should do away with a little bit every time some heart wrenching event occurs. Why bother having hate crime when we could simply outlaw the offending philosophies altogether. But of course, the central committee will determine which thoughts will be acceptable. It is also so time consuming and annoying for authorities to get permission to invade what is technically owned by the government anyway so we can jump past the 4th amendment as well. Why if we delay in seizures some child somewhere in the world might get hurt, so we better not risk it. That 10th amendment DEFINITELY has to go. We certainly cannot tolerate States governing in a manner the central authority says is in bad taste, they must realize they cannot rely on a 200+ year old piece of paper to thwart Washington’s will. The States are merely there to execute the will of the federal bureaucracy. We just need to find a a few dead children who’s bodies we can stand on to make sure that Washington’s authority is accepted as above all, especially the will of old dead slave owning white men. Jan. 15, 2013 at 5:41pmI wish that were the case.
If you look at the results of polls of young adults (say, 18-34 demographic), Colbert and Stewart are consistently among the top three or four sources which they turn to for “news”. You know and I know that they are ‘comedians’, but many who vote (and vote Left) don’t get the joke.
John Stewart I find particularly appalling. He gives his opinion, pretty much always from Left to hard Left and, when challenged, says that he’s “just a comedian/satirist” and therefore shouldn’t be checked for accuracy. Sorry, but when what you say is taken for truth, then what you say should be checked for “truthiness”. I find Colbert’s schtick tiresome, but I think he’s a good deal more honest about his being a comedian rather than a pundit, lines which Stewart intentionally blurs.
