‘I Felt It Was Indoctrination’: Public High School Under Fire for Allegedly Teaching ‘White Privilege’

A Wisconsin school district is under fire after a parent exposed the content of a diversity class that allegedly promotes a critical race theory, teaching students that white people are oppressors and enjoy “white privilege,” Fox News’ Todd Starnes first reported.

Students at Delavan-Darien High School in Delavan, Wis. found themselves subjected to “indoctrination,” according to one parent.

“They’re teaching white guilt,” the parent, who asked not to be identified, told Fox News. “They’re dividing the students. They’re saying to non-whites, ‘You have been oppressed and you’re still being oppressed.’”

The parent’s 18-year-old son was reportedly enrolled in the class and some of the handouts provided by the teacher concerned her. She said it felt like “indoctrination.”

“This is a radical left agenda and ideology that is now embedded in our school,” she said, adding that students were taught “if you’re white, you’re oppressing. If you’re non-white, you’ve been a victim.”

According to handouts obtained by Fox News, “white privilege” was defined as “a set of advantages that are believed to be enjoyed by white people beyond those commonly experienced by non-white people in the same social, political, and economic spaces (nation, community, workplace, income, etc.)”

Students were also given a handout from University of Texas professor Robert Jensen arguing that people don’t have complete control over their fate.

“There is not space here to list all the ways in which white privilege plays out in our lives, but it is clear that I will carry this privilege with me until the day white supremacy is erased from society,” he wrote.

Students were also instructed to visit the toy aisle at Wal-Mart for a hands-on illustration of white privilege.

“They were told to go and count the number of dolls that were representative of blacks as opposed to whites,” the parent said. “It’s meant to divide and victimize non-whites and condition whites to feel guilty and to be more passive.”

The mother brought the objectionable material to school officials and also Superintendent Robert Crist.

Crist told Fox News that the mother’s “concern has merit.”

“A lot of red flags go up in my mind when I look at the materials,” he said.

He went on: “Ideally, you would want to present one theory that might be way on the left and another theory that may be way on the right and if you find one in the middle you can present that, too…Now you have a well-rounded discussion in my opinion.”
The course will not be taught again until the school district evaluates the course and its teachings, Crist said.

At the same time, Crist explained he doesn’t think the teacher intentionally tried to indoctrinate students.

“I’m out of an old-fashioned school,” he added. “I believe in helping kids understand the basic objectives of curriculum and not use some radical material to get a student to support some kind of a special theory.”

The parent is not as understanding. She told Fox News that her son got a job washing dishes over the summer and sometimes worked 10 hours a day.

“And then to have a teacher tell you that you have these unearned privileges — that because you are white somehow you infringe on other people’s rights. It’s really just awful.”

    In a marxist led country, right before the genocide you can always tell which group is about to be wiped-out by the way the State, educational system and the media demonize that group! Of course the targeted group would have to be disarmed first! Sound familiar?

    When the Multicultural Marxist-Hydra finally unleashes its minions, the multicult, they will truly believe that the genocide is some sort of social justice!

    Fighting back and exposing this crap so we can end all the ridiculous ways that are being infiltrated into our society is the only way. Home schooling is great but it won’t solve anything. As long as this is allowed to continue without exposure the worse it will get.

    I deal with this every day with my kid in school. I have gone in & explained that I’m tired of the teachers wearing my kid down & trying to change her views.Every day, just about every teacher injects into their class some liberal “progressive” pro-homosexual, anti-heterosexual, anti-America, anti-white, anti-Judeo-Christian, anti-free market, anti-capitalist, anti-right to defend yourself (an inalienable right from the law of nature given by God that should never be taken away). My daughter has been raised by conservative, Judeo-Christian parents who have taught her real history & so she picks up on every bit of their propaganda & she tries to refute it get the other viewpoint heard, but she is made fun of & ostracized by the teachers who get the gullible kids to go along with them. Every parent should teach their kids real history and the truth of the destruction to our Constitution and freedom that’s being done now by the Marxist Communist Obama liberal “progressives” from http://www.theblaze.com, http://www.frontpgemag.com, and David Barton Wall Builders history, and http://www.patriotpost.us. If parents would care enough to make sure their kid’s worldview is not the liberal “progressive” Communist Marxist kind, more kids would stand up to these bullying left-wing extremist “teachers”, and our kids could make a difference in their world and their future. We parents need to go to school & complain & write letters & stop their indoctrination and brainwashing.

    No one is holding the black person except themselves. It is those whose cling to the their culture of violence, bad behavior, preying on the weak, poor use of the English language, and lack of strong family values(black men who won’t take responsibility to the children they father). Being civilized in public is not acting white, it is called proper behavior and respecting others. Black persons who choose to discipline their behavior in society are the ones who become successful and enjoy the all benefits they claim only white people do.

    This crap is taught and used for indoctrination in law school. I had never heard of white privilege until law school. Since I was not aware of my racism, that was my white privilege. Somehow, not concerning myself with skin tone made me racist because I should have been concerned. It was utter stupidity but I just kept my mouth shut and got the degree.

    So, the Principal didn’t know what was being taught in the school. The same school that pays this moron a SIX FIGURE salary and perks.
    Enough already with the leftist indoctrination going on within schools! The Principal doesn’t know what trash is being spread within his/her walls? And what the heck is the freaking school board doing? They too are all SIX FIGURE salary pullers. They are the ones administering the education. Where the heck are these people. Are classroom Teacher freelancing? And so said they could bring in any outside opinions or materials not approved by School Board Administrators?
    It’s time a major blood letting occurred in the Public Education System, and fast. There’s way too much hard line left of centre bias being brought into the classrooms.

    How much diversity is in Mexico ? Diversity is not an asset to any country , freedom is . Diversity is just another word that we are supposed to like. It will be a great honor to tell as many people as I can how how unneeded diversity is . Diversity means nothing . The way these people are separating us into groups is frightening .

      Diversity means giving the job to someone who didn’t earn it. When you, YT, lose that job to a minority, blame yourself for having ‘white privilege’.     This crap had been going on since the 60′s when they FORCED integration. WAKE UP!!!

    When I was in school we all watched roots and the girls would apologized to the black students afterwards. I never saw the black students apologizing to each other for each others tribes selling one another off. Its all meant to promote white guilt.

    Multiculturalism is just code word for ANTI-WHITE.

    When America abolished slavery America and England went to war with other countries to stop slavery all over the world. The only place that has slavery now is northern Africa.
    It is illegal to hire a white people or admit them in college if there is not enough minorities there. Especially government jobs. This includes minorities that have come to this country and have not experienced discrimination in the past. This includes illegal immigrants.

    Stories like this make me chuckle,

    You have teachers complaining about, being underfunded, the pressures of standardized testing, that American Students are falling behind in Math and Science, and that schools are too small and not enough space to teach kids.

    Then you hear about a class like this and wonder why do we fund this class, why is this part of the curiculum if its not part of standardize tests, why are we teaching this rather than Math or Science, Why do we waste classroom space on this class.

    absurd.

    Its a way to explain to minorities (or excuse) why it feels or seems that Whites are so much further ahead. In the 70s it was explained that Whites were doing so much better than blacks because they had better funded school districts unlike the inner city poverty stricken areas of East Cleveland or Detriot. So, we tried busing, we tried stealing taxes from one community to bolster another.

    We are still in the same boat as before but its even worse as studies say that since the 70s, black children have gotten even further left behind. Now it must be explained another way such as this outragious accusation of some sort of White privilage. This White man who never went to college has owned three homes, countless cars, on a 2nd successful career, has three children two of which are University Grads with another on the way. This success was imbued upon me from my parents who received it from theirs. Its in my genes not to quit, not to rely on others, not to gripe, not to blame others but work hard, be honest, and believe failure is not an option.

    I am sick to my stomach that this is going on because I can see some White youth who cannot get their minds around what is happening. It would seem their very existence is on trial instead of those making these charges should look in the mirror and find some fault with the way they were raised and make some needed internal changes….if anything, the should be using Whites as the model of success not denigrating them.

      Well since it doesn’t mention it and the Blaze DEFINITELY would have pounced on that fact if that HAD been the case, then no, I’d say it’s AT LEAST just as probable that the course was wholly inoffensive and some parent who feels the typical reactionary hypersensitivity any time race is brought up got all defensive and threw a tantrum–you don’t BELIEVE me that that happens? Survey the posts HERE. And as to gulags–I think REGULAR education would do just fine, far better in fact. But you have to at least be WILLING to admit that MAYBE you DON’T know EVERYTHING a priori for that to have any effect.

African-Englishman”–actually, yes, they do, although I’m not sure they don’t prefer the term black in most foreign states, which personally I’ve always preferred as well since it emphasizes the more salient fact that most black people who aren’t African ex-pats but instead the descendants of the legacy of modern slavery who have their own diasporic culture distinct in many important ways from African nationals or recent African ex-pats.
      (2) White guilt isn’t really the goal or the point. The point is to understand history and confront that fact that the past informs the present, and that ideas of “race” DO still influence human lives in insidious ways.

      Fact of the matter is that after slavery ended, segregation started and continued for hundreds of years. Blacks were NOT equal even de jure, let ALONE de facto. It wasn’t even one hundred years ago when segregation was rejected and an EARNEST attempt at equal protection under the law without respect to race was made, and ONLY then because black people DEMANDED they be given their rights and were willing to resort to violence if they continued to be treated as second-class citizens and second-class humans. You’re dismissive attitude doesn’t demonstrate that you’re somehow superior because of your ignorance of history and the impact of race–it just makes you say stupid and untrue things in IGNORANCE rather than malice (at least presumably). But in the end, it really doesn’t make all that much DIFFERENCE as far as racial discrimination is concerned whether you perpetuate it simply because you don’t know any better, or because you consciously believe in perpetuating it–it is perpetuated, with its consequences, all the same. And THIS is what conservatives refuse to understand and appreciate that makes many minorities so dissatisfied with conservatism–that their IGNORANCE (and I don’t mean that in the simplistic watery liberal sense it’s come to be used but rather in its LITERAL, truest sense–LACK of knowledge) and INACTION can be EVERY BIT as detrimental to the resolution of racial issues as ACTIVE and INTENTIONALLY harmful actions.

    They just don’t give up. First thing is for these people to get lawyered up, and sue the school district back into the dark ages. Then set up for home schooling, and a major state property tax reform based upon the law suites. If this is handled properly major changes could happen. The school systems in this country are so communistic that something needs to be done. Maybe its time to set up private schools that do not allow liberals

      LOL–that would be HIGHLY illegal. I’m not even sure if religious private schools can turn away pupils on the basis of RELIGION. Schools are CLASSICALLY public accommodations–private or no, they can’t turn away students (or employees for that matter) on the basis of political preference (as if most school age kids are even that knowledgeable or opinionated about politics prior to high school at the earliest anyway) any more than they could set up a private “whites only” school.

      This isn’t the 50′s, and even if you plan WASN’T both highly illegal, immoral, and fascistic, you’d STILL be begging the question–how EXACTLY do you plan to separate the “conservative” students and/or staff from the “liberal” ones?

      Before the 1950′s, whites still live the cities. tHen the Sup. Court struck down restrictive covenants in 1947. Guess what happened. YT fled the cities. Why don’t you try and outlaw that? Surely it’s immoral for YT to choose where they live, the racist bastards!

      Also, back in the 50′s my family lived in DC. Due to Shelley vs. Kraemer, along w/ all the hand-outs, the blacks started flocking there. The handwriting was on the wall. Now how many whites live there? Subtract white gov. workers and lobbyists to get an accurate #.

      Homeschooling isn’t a perfect substitute–only those with the resources to home-school can do so, and ironically thanks to the socioeconomic changes engendered by capitalism, the population of people WITH those resources to spare is becoming increasingly smaller.

      But moreover and more importantly, just because there aren’t PERFECT solutions/policies, doesn’t mean that there aren’t net BETTER policies. Sure, there IS still plenty of (for example) racial discrimination still, some of which violates anti-discrimination law, and some of THAT which goes un-remedied; but some of it IS punished, and we are NET better off for HAVING a legal recourse than we were PRIOR when there was NO legal recourse, and no (or perhaps substantially less) economic incentive NOT to discriminate.

      White flight isn’t really the problem–it is a SYMPTOM of the problem. The PROBLEM is a cultural one. The PROBLEM is that human beings are seen as liabilities not assets. The PROBLEM is that people, most people, think, and more to the point ACT, like they are playing a zero-sum game of them against the world–and therefore because they think and act it, they ARE playing a zero-sum game of them against the world. What we must take heed of is that we do not live or act in a vacuum, but in a social context–and that the consequences of our actions, and consequently OUR reality, is determined by more than MERELY our choice, but by the AGGREGATE of OUR choices.

      What I mean to say is our PERSONAL individual choices are NOT independent but rather INTERDEPENDENT, and therefore the conservative exclusive emphasis on, and analysis of, individual-level explanations and frames of reference will ALWAYS leave something out of the full causal understanding (and consequently will NEVER be sufficient, so long as it continues that methodology, to dictate effective public policy, by which I mean more broadly than mere political acts, but our collective normative ideas as a society and culture).
