Jimmy Kimmel Segment Featuring L.A. News Stations Freaking Out Over ‘Freezing Cold’ 50-Degree Weather Is Worth Your Time
Having grown up in Wisconsin, I’d like to think I know cold. Cold is having to wear three layers when the wind chill drops to -5 degrees. Cold is having to start the car 30 minutes before you leave in order to have a little heat by the time you pull out of the driveway. Cold is turning the heat βup βto 65.
What cold βisn’t βis temperatures in the 50s. Don’t believe me? “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host Jimmy Kimmel agrees. In fact, on Friday he mocked local Los Angeles TV stations who were “freaking out” over the “cold” temperatures set to hit Southern California this week.
“We really have no idea how silly we would look if people in places like Milwaukee saw how we react when the temperature drops below 55,” Kimmel teased.
Well, as someone from just north of Milwaukee, trust me when I say βvery sillyβ. The local news outlets covered the sub-60 temps with words such as “freezing cold,” the “coldest nights you’ve ever experienced,” “arctic blast,” and “beyond cold.”
If you’re from the Midwest you’ll really appreciate this. If you’re not, you still will chuckle (the video has gone viral with over 1 million views since Friday):
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isnβt really about controlling guns at all; itβs about controlling us. Posted on January 15, 2013 at 1:06pmThey don’t know what cold is. I remember getting up for school at 5:15am and standing outside for the bus in 13 degree weather. and that’s really not that bad as long as you bundle up.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 3:25pmSorry, but 50 degrees is FREEZING! I have heard your weather people moan when it gets to 90! Try 120 in eastern Arizona. Works both ways. And, oh yeah, I had to walk to school and it was 3 miles uphill both ways!

Posted on January 16, 2013 at 5:00amHere in Southern California, the only reason we are so cold is that we spent so many years preparing for the global warming crisis. For years we were told cold weather was not the danger we had to ever worry about, only hot weather, and hotter and hotter and hotter Summers (this past Summer almost proved it).
So we threw out all of our coats and jackets and sweaters, stopped paying bills for heat, and allowed our water heaters to break down. And now this happens.
It’s not our fault; we prepared for a different kind of Armageddon. It’s just suddenly then the weather went all screwy. Some here might start to question their faith in global warming after all this, but not those of us who are truly faithful.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 1:04pmBless ‘em. If only the wealthy would pay their fair share, we could fix the climate that was wrecked by Bush. And, just think of the damage to the climate caused by guns. Each bullet fired releases millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere… I’m sure it does.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:23pmOf course it seems somewhat silly to those of us that live in places where it gets far colder. But I’m sure people living in Texas get a nice chuckle out of northerners freaking out when the thermometer hits 90ΒΊ too. Everything is relative.

Cotton gloves and a pull over sweatshirt. When it gets into the 20′s I ski with just a hat and long sleeve T-shirt. If it hit 80 this afternoon I would be dieing. It is about what you are used to. Your body can acclimate to most climates.

Here’s the deal Mexico;

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 11:10amI grew up in central calif., then moved to nor cal (near the ocean). If we had one forecast a year under 32 degrees, it was considered normal. I can remember looking at my car temp and thinking how cold it was when the daytime temp hovered around 49. Recently, we moved to the foothills of the Sierras and now I can appreciate 49! It’s all in perspective. I can really appreciate what people go through in other states. All I can think about is warm clothing and worrying about icy road conditions.

How will such fair weather folks fare when the earth shifts into it’s next ice age? Climate has been shifting back and forth since before the age of the dinosasurs. Our planet is known to experience ice ages on a semi-regular basis.
No one has argued that warming or cooling trends in the evolutionary past were due to human industry. The climate, and the oxygen/co2 makeup of the atmosphere has changed —- again I refer to the DISTANT past before humans evolved. Why is this amost NEVER part of the discussion? I remember hearing about a politician/scientist who proposed building up the 3rd world/Africa, not out of whit guilt for something we never did, but because we should build relationships and improve the area our n/x great-grandkids will be trying to move into someday, to escape the approaching glaciers. That is not part of the discussion on wealth transfers to the developing world. Why?

Everytime I turned on the TV or radio the local news shows started off with “Today in the Southland!” Yeah, I am in the South, but I can still walk dog in gym shorts, and a T shirt in a light rain when its in the forties here. Geez! Okay, if any of you up north want to tell me your comparisons I used to live in Upstate, NY about thirty miles south of Canada. I feel for you because I don’t have to shovel snow.
