A man in Adams County, Colo. lost his best friend after he says deputies shot his dog three times for “no reason.”
Tragically, Jeff Fisher said police went to his house by mistake. When he opened his door for the deputies, his dog Ziggy ran outside and officers shot and killed him.
“Fisher said Ziggy was his best friend and can’t believe he’s gone,” CBS Denver reports.
“(He went to the door) to see who it was and the police officer shot him three times…They killed my dog for no reason,” he said.
Adams County sheriff’s deputies were reportedly responding to reports of a business alarm going off. A spokesman with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office would not provide any additional details until the investigation is complete.

Jan. 15, 2013 at 10:34pm“The dog ran out” .. it does not say the dog was vicious or threatening .. what kind of a moron shoots a dog because it runs out of a house? The sorry SOB should be fired and flogged. I have NO sympathy for someone who would do such a thing. Guess we should be glad a child didn’t run out of the house .. and they want to take away OUR guns?

Jan. 16, 2013 at 12:41amIf I didn’t get killed by trying to rip the cop who killed my dog limb from limb, I’d walk into the police station and yell at the top of my lungs (repeatedly, clearly and persistently) “Any cop who kills a dog is a PIG and a coward” and I’d mean it quite sincerely. Then I’d ask rationally, intensely and carefully, anyone who was listening to or confronting me, whether they understood exactly what I was saying. If I felt that it wasn’t clear, I’d offer various other iterations of the same theme, all in the King’s English. Then I’d dedicate all of my resources to suing and shaming that cowardly, dog killing pig whether I had a chance of winning or not.
A lot of us are rapidly reaching our fill of government thugs, bullies and growing Nazi tendencies. The TSA comes vividly to mind. The government had better learn fast to tread more lightly or we are about to relive 1861 all over again. We are still Americans and if many sheep have forgotten what that means, many, many more Americans have not. Government, both local and national may consider themselves on notice by the owners of this country.

Jan. 16, 2013 at 7:52amAs an owner and protector of four dogs I can say without a doubt.I’ld be in jail or dead right now because I would have damn sure open fire on the police when they kicked in my door and shot one of my family members.
This is why we have a second amendment…think what these jackboots nazis government agents would do if they knew we could not defend ourselves. I’ve seen this story play out time and time again police with drug warrants kicks down door of wrong house or just innocent people and kill their loved ones. Just saw one recently where the police kicked in the door of a single parent father he didn’t know they were police and hit is his daughters rooms. When they kicked in that door he open fire and killed a cop. They were at the wrong house and the man still ended up on deathrow until an actual lawyer not a public defender took his case.
Indiana just passed a law last year given citizens the right to defend themselves against a warranted police attacks……The Constitution also gives us that same right.

The article claims that the dog was his best friend. He must live a pretty sad and pathetic life.
My family has a female Boxer named Pepper. She is spoiled rotten, and the family loves her and we will miss her when she passes on in a few years. That being said, Pepper does not compare to the love I have for my children. She does not compare to the love I have for my friends. I do not know the other posters on here, or their children, but my love for your child is greater than that of my own dog. If my dog became a threat to your child, I could kill Pepper with my bare hands, to spare your child.

Jan. 16, 2013 at 10:56amRS,
No one here is saying they love their dog more than the children. That said dogs are like family members to those who haven’t been assimilated into the apathetic culture that is plaque our society.
Dogs are mans best friend and will die to protect the ones they love and depend on. And sure you may find a few people like that in our cultural the majority are not. The majority would take out their phone camera and watch you get beaten to death. So to call someone sad for refering to the one thing they can count on as their best friend…is to be dillusional or in an extreme state of denial as to the nature of our current society.
I won’t wish harm comes to those who hurt a member of my family I’LL PERSONALLY DELIVER IT.
My wife,my child,my grand child and my dogs are under my protection….I pity those that would intentional harm them because it comes back three folds.

If a dog is your best friend, you might want to do some internal checks.
When I read my Bible from cover to cover, I realize I should treat my animals well, as God is taking care of the sparrows.
Not a whole lot of Bible verses on loving your dog, better than yourself. Much Bible though, concerning your love and care for your fellow man.

Jan. 17, 2013 at 11:35amHey RangerSkippy: Your post makes me stop and think. I love children too and if, in my presence, they were threatened, I would fight or even kill to protect them- anyone’s children. But the fact is ours are gone and we have dogs which we love very much. Perhaps humans put too much love on their pets which was ‘designed’ for fellow species members. I don’t know about how you feel about it, but my dogs have a whole lot more integrity than most humans I know do, we being a fallen race as Jesus makes clear. So I generally prefer their company to that of my generally disappointing fellow humans most days of the week. In fact the love for my dogs runs so deep that there is no telling what I would do if they were hurt or attacked in my presence. I can tell you though that it would be exceedingly swift and violent.
But I appreciate your point of view very much. It is just another of innumerable examples that there is still much good and mental health in most people even if it is hard to tell sometimes… :) I tip my hat to you…

Jan. 18, 2013 at 9:58amNever blindly trust law enforcement simply because of their job. Just because you wear a badge, does not make you a “good guy”, in fact negative people and villains often love power, and putting that badge on attracts power hungry people. I have seen very few examples of Law enforcement treating citizens decently. If you pull me over for a victimless crime, treat me with respect and I won’t mind you doing your job, treat me like a criminal, and you will forever have my scorn.
You have to respect law and authority, this goes without question, but individual cops are just that, individuals with their own priorities and their own reasons for doing their job. Yes, there are plenty of good cops out there, but there is also a ton of horrible villainous ones.

Jan. 16, 2013 at 1:06amWoodyee, I live in “flyover country” in west central Indiana. I’m reading and typing a little slow, myself, because of a wonderful Porter from the oldest brewery in the US and it’s still family owned. They have a great lagar too, the brewery is Yuengling, (pronounced “Yingling”). They have been in business since 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania!! I just have to go to 150 miles east to Ohio to get it!! I do enjoy Sierra Neveda Pale Ale, too!!
I enjoy your post here on the Blaze.
