Should a High School Principal Be Facing Disciplinary Action Over a ‘Disturbing’ Terminator Spoof?

The principal of Everett High School in Massachusetts faces disciplinary action but won’t be fired for making a spoof of “The Terminator” and showing it to students.
Apparently a number of parents, students, and administrators found the imagery too violent in the wake of the recent tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut.
i09 summarizes:
Erick Naumann had recently become principal of Everett High School, and he decided to introduce himself by making a funny video in which he walks the hallways of the school looking like the Terminator. “Was he sent to save us or destroy us?” the video asks. There are some images from Cameron’s films, including a playground on fire. The video was played during school announcements, and most of the high school kids who saw it seem to have understood it was a joke and not really a threat that their principal was going to turn out to be have a metal endoskeleton and a penchant for time traveling in the nude.
But adults… not so much. The superintendent, Frederick Foresteire, told WCVB: “I thought it was inappropriate. It sent wrong message. Messages in that video were kind of disturbing. A woman terrorized in the hallway. They showed four empty classrooms. Where have the students gone?”

Naumann and his lawyer appeared at a closed school committee hearing Monday night, where Naumann apologized for the clip.
Superintendent Frederick Foresteire said after the meeting that the principal made a poor decision, but is a good leader and will not be fired. Foresteire would, however, support a brief suspension or some other disciplinary action.
“Think before you act,” he admonished.
Foresteire will meet with other administrators Tuesday to decide what punishment Naumann should face.
But according to the Associated Press, while there were certainly complaints about the film, the majority of parents and students seem to understand that it was a joke.
“I don’t think it’s a big deal. I think he was kidding,” one student said, according to WCVB-TV. “He’s a great principal. I think people are being a little too sensitive.”
WCVB-TV has more, including clips of the offending spoof:

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 1:16pmIn Massachusetts citizens are scared of their own shadows.
It will always be that way.
This state allowed its public schools in one county (about 3 years ago) to change from red pens to purple pens so to not ‘offend’ children when their schoolwork is graded by teachers.
No hope for Camelot.
Just fear.
And loathing.
Nice.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 1:10pmHere in PA we had a principal dealing meth out of the middle school he worked in. He was busted in his office nude and watching porn. The issue now, is, should he still receive his pension. That kind of principal should be in the news. This terminator guy will probably work out fine if the bullies leave him alone.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:48pmLiberals seem to me to be broody people. The only time they really seem to be happy is when they are making someone else miserable…at least the ones I have known.
Everyone else in the room could be laughing at a joke and a liberal is looking for a reason to say it’s offensive or not PC.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:33pmThe problem with this country is TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY.
If the we took ‘You Tube’ away, technology, exploiting videos, deadly games designed for adults only, and started making certain our kids ate at the family table, took them to church, brought back prayer to our schools, the pledge, and physical education, maybe the values of individuals would improve.
I DO NOT see baby boomers shooting children, robbing banks, and “freeloading on our government” (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OUR SO CALLED PRESIDENT.) We were taught right from wrong, we went to church, had quality time with our parents, and we were taught to WORK!
I am beginning to think we are a very “rare breed”. When we were naughty, we were given a spanking, and trust me, it only took one time for our parents to get the point across. The “Time Out” nonsense didn’t happen in our generation and we grew up to understand the word….’RESPECT’. I see very little of this since Time Out came into play. Spanking didn’t hurt us, it made us stronger.
I see nothing wrong with what this principal did, and stricter rules should go into effect.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:50pmNo, baby boomers just raised the next generation. Tossed them a DVD and video game and told them to entertain themselves, while voting to bancrupt them in order to pay the boomers lavish pension plans.
Need to lay off Gen X firefighters and put a hiring freeze in place so that boomers can retire at fifty and make 90% of their highest pay until the day they die at age 90.
Hell is coming.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:31pmPeople really don’t know a joke anymore. This man was creative and is being punished for it. Students understood because they actually saw it and understood the message as a JOKE. The only thing that could be said about it, is, potentially, it was done in bad timing as being too close to Sandy Hook tragedy. PC ness out of control

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:20pmI had a Chinese employee once who told me, there was a saying that was repeated incessantly in our schools, “If it has not been done in the past, then it cannot be done in the future”. Obviously this principle has not figured out that he has paid dues to a communist organization, the NEA, and they are reminding him and his associates of their place.

Posted on January 15, 2013 at 12:07pmYou can’t have anything in schools to make it more fun and interesting for boys. Just put them on drugs instead and make them pay attention to girly things.
Our school used to have “Penny Wars.” Now it is called “Pennies for Peace.”
