Smoothie Bar Owner Charges Liberals $1 More Than Conservatives for Drinks

A small business owner in Vernal, Utah, is raising eyebrows with a controversial policy surrounding how much he charges liberals and conservatives for smoothies. George Burnett, owner of “I Love Drilling Juice & Smoothie Bar,” has implemented a price structure in which liberals pay more for their drinks than their conservative counterparts.

Burnett, an advocate who is known locally for his support of the energy market (just look at the name of his smoothie bar), has made no bones about his plans to charge liberals $1 more for their fruit-filled drinks.

“I’m very open about it, very public about it, that I’m going to charge them a little bit more, and I have liberals come in and pay the extra dollar surcharge,” he told KSL-TV.

The fee, alone, is enough to infuriate admitted leftists, but they may be even more frustrated when they learn what Burnett does with this extra $1: He donates the monies to conservative causes like The Heritage Foundation, a right-leaning think tank. Despite seeming inflammatory, Burnett claims that his goal, rather than to offend, is to spark conversations about regulatory structures and the energy industry.

“Really what I’m focused on is the fiscal differences between big government/small government and liberal ways, as far as entitlements and spending,” he told KSL. “We have a fiscal problem in this country. We’ve got to deal with it or we don’t have a country, so to kind of help make that point, just a little bit, I charge (liberals) just a little bit more.”

While some have taken to Burnett’s Facebook page to voice concern (one person called his price structure “pathetic”), others are supporting it. The business owner reports that, despite some pushback, a few liberals (he said three, so far, have paid extra) are happily doling out the difference for his smoothies.

  If two Americans execute a stock trade that nets identical profits, say, $50K, why should one American pay a higher tax rate & special fees on those profits simply because his “day job” (which has nothing to do with the investment or it’s profits) pays him more than $400K/yr?

  we are not talking about stock trades and taxes we are talking about servicing the public. You must realize that eventually all the bush tax breaks will have to expire. They have just expired on the induviduals most able to go on unaffected. The wealthiest have always paid more in taxes in fact 50 years ago it was 90%. I’ve often thought that there should be a box on our IRS tax forms that we should check if we’re Republican or Democrat.   Wouldn’t hire a liberal, I couldn’t afford the special treatment they require. You know, a ten minute work break every two hours, mirrors everywhere for primping, affirmative action uniforms (can’t expect a lib to wear the same duds as everyone else), higher pay scale to pay for their Prius and oh yea, government style health care.
  No, I’ll take the conservative. We work hard, expect to be paid for what we do, don’t envy the person who make more than we do ( we just work harder and smarter so we can some day do as well or better than they do), we follow the rules (we don;t expect special rules just for us) and we honor our bosses (we don’t spy on them and accuse them of bigotry or sexism because they used the “code” word lazy or Chicago.

I went to the Rock n Roll hall of fame two months ago. I had my parking ticket validated at the ticket booth. The young black student working the gate charged me $8 when I left. That seemed odd. So I called the RRHOF later the next week and they said yes….the attendant jobbed me and probably pocketed the cash. My fault for not knowing the rules beforehand.

nice idea….if someone asks “waht if it was reversed and conservs had to pay more” the answer is simple. libs not conservs feel that others but not them have a duty ‘to pay a little more’ . and have the market regulated by govt or another entity rather than the free market. they always think that it will end up by them making more money or paying less. they never stop to think what happens if the govt you demand regulate prices and wages, turns around and says YOU make too much and YOU pay to little.

  Let’s see…the GOP has 30 governors in office right now with varying degrees of control in their respective state senates. The GOP won it’s biggest victory in the house in seventy years in 2010.

Well, liberals (obama’s lazy freeloaders) don’t pay taxes and they get virtually everything in life for free, so, they have a lot more money in their pockets than regular people – so, I guess this is one way to make them pay their “fair share”.

Interesting but i am a liberal and pay taxes. I dont get $$ from the government ( except when i served in desert storm in 91, youre welcome) and owned a business. I no longer own the business due to market collpase in 07 but i do still have a job. Even when i didnt have a job i refused to collect unemployment even though i was eligable.

Rather than lumping everyone into a silly streotype you shoudl think before you post. I have other liberal friends that also pay taxes and dont get handouts. One in paticular is paying his own way through law school while keeping a job and paying taxes.

Your post shows the stupidity of the right and explains why you will continue to lose elections

Here is a business idea for anyone who knows how to build apps. I would love to have a map that would show all of the commercial sites as they do now, but with an overlay of Red or Blue (green for neutral) dot to show their political affiliation. I would change my shopping habits based on this information…any entrepreneurs out there? We already know many of them now. Just a thought….

Well, liberals (obama’s lazy freeloaders) don’t pay taxes and they get virtually everything in life for free, so, they have a lot more money in their pockets than regular people – so, I guess this is one way to make them pay their “fair share”.

Why not? I have to pay more on my electric bill for their wind turbines – how fair is that? I don’t even get a choice to go somewhere else, instead.

If people are so upset about the 1%, why aren’t people so upset about the 1% at the bottom? If these folksdon’t have a reason to be at the bottom, I think we should be protesting them. Can’t they just do a “Little bit More”

If it works for him, why not? Federal law does not prohibit discrimination based on political affiliation or ideology. Free market will say whether it works for his business or not. Good for him for his gutsy marketing style!
