CBS’ Bob Schieffer Groups Gun Lobby in With Civil Rights Opponents, bin Laden, and Nazis

CBS’ Bob Schieffer covered President Obama’s gun control speech Wednesday, calling it “one of the best speeches” he has “ever heard him deliver.”

But what’s turning heads is the company in which Schieffer placed the gun control lobby. Apparently, if the United States can overcome civil rights opponents, Osama bin Laden, and Nazis, we should be able to “[take] on” the gun lobby.

…Let’s remember: there was considerable opposition when Lyndon Johnson went to the Congress and…presented some of the most comprehensive civil rights legislation in the history of this country. Most people told him he couldn’t get it done, but he figured out a way to do it. And that’s what Barack Obama is going to have to do…what happened in Newtown was probably the worst day in this country’s history since 9/11. We found Osama bin Laden. We tracked him down. We changed the way that we dealt with that problem. Surely, finding Osama bin Laden; surely, passing civil rights legislation, as Lyndon Johnson was able to do; and before that, surely, defeating the Nazis was a much more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby. Personally, I dont watch the dunderhead. Maybe if the gun owners of America delete him and his network from your remote, he might go away. They are tanking anyway. As for Civil Rights groups, please look for yourself and I believe that you will find that the NRA is the largest in the USA and I couldn’t quite find it but, it may also be the largest and oldest civil rights organization in the world. The NRA has fought for and on the side of gun owners and organizations not only on the 2nd amendment but on the 1st and 4th as well. There may be more but my eyes are tired of the tube and I am going to bed now. Call, email and if you can, write to your congressional reps with you message. If you have never done it before, DO IT NOW!!! If you did it yesterday, do it again tomorrow and the next day. Get you mother, father, sister, brother, wife, son and daughter to do it to. It is up to us to fight this fight, not the next guy, YOU!!!

You gun nuts make me laugh. The US government has more weaponry than your guns can handle. I own a gun but I am not delusional enough to think that I own it because one day the government will decide to turn communist, socialist or facist. LOL I own one to protect my home and property from a criminal who may come to harm me or my family. I don’t need a semi automatic, or 30 or more round clips to achieve that goal. 20 children and 6 adults were killed by a nutcase who had access to too many weapons and too much ammo. Get real people, guns do kill people and rational gun laws will help to alleviate the problem. They will not solve it but if it saves one child from harm it is worth it to me.

Somebody ought to tell that washed up senile old sorry excuse for a journalist that 18 democratic senators filibustered against the civil rights legislation for 54 days. And 31% of democrats in the house and 37% in the senate voted against it. It should surprise noone that the left wing press today would twist the truth about something like this. Could he suck up any more to the half white president????

Hey Boob. You just insulted every law abiding citizen in the country, who chooses too be in a position of protecting his life and the lives of his or her family. I’m an example of the people you insulted. In my seven decades on this planet, my only crime has been one moving traffic violation.
People with your insane attitude are on the path that would make criminals of millions of people just like me by requiring them to register their firearms. If they choose decline too do so, they would be forced into becoming criminals, or violate their 2nd amendment rights. By the way, there are laws against self incrimination. That means felons who are in the possession of firearms, would not be required to step forward and admit they had weapons, since they would be in the position of incriminating themselves. It must be difficult for someone in your position not too be able to produce one small lucid thought. However, I do understand if it is not on a teleprompter, it can’t exist.
Texas must be proud of you. My guess any true Texan considers you an absolute traitor to Texas heritage.

Should my Dr. ask me if there any guns in my home, I would answer “Hell Yes.” I have a 105 Millimeter Howitzer , A couple of stingers, a Bazooka , a dozen hand guns, and for good measure,
a 12 gauge shogun, all locked and loaded. I would then sit back and wait too see if he believed me.
He might be forced too ask the question, however, there is no law that says I’m required too answer honestly, after all, my doctor is not an officer of the law.

Didnt Lyndon Johnson oppose civil rights when it was originally proposed by Republicans,only to abduct it as his cause,after voting against it and defeating it when it was pushed by Republicans?

As far as I’m concerned, it is the Anti-Gun lobby that has more in common with Hitler. Also, it was the original gun lobby (read founding fathers) that freed us from British oppression. The king would have sided with bobby here and want as little guns in the colony as possible. Had he gotten his way, other wouldn’t have been an America to fight up the nazis in the first place!

These clowns always talk about the gun lobby as if they were a bunch of fat cats living in a castle. The NRA represents millions of law obiding gun owners that believe in the 2nd Amendment not Nazis or trigger happy criminals. I’ll leave the latter two categories to be defended by Bobby and the left.
